인문고등학교 물리와 지구과학 통합 과정의 한 모형 (A method to integrate physics and earthscience in high school course)

  • In is a recent trend of the world to study the integrated science curriculum development. This study aims at pursuing how to integrate physics and earthscience in high school course and forming a tentative plan as to an integrated process between both the subjects. The one was compared with the other accor ding to the basic concepts and theteaching objecties. The contents of these two subjects were analysed, the overlapping parts being chosen, and so in the hierachy of the curriculum, some mistakes were found in eaching these two two subjects. It proved valid to in tegrate these two subject. A concrete scheme was offered to in tegrate these two subjects-physics and earthscience, when a tentative plan concerning, the integra ted process was made. This new plan can make the time required for teaching decrease by 5% The better study on the basic structure of the integrated concepts between these two subjects will go on further in this respect. It is necessary to train again the teachres concerned with this new subject and to put an emphasis on the elective course between physics and earthscience in the teacher's college curriculum.

Development of Problem-Based Learning in an English-Mediated College Science Course: Design-Based Research on Four Semesters Instruction

  • Universities in Korea have driven universities' new attempts to adopt more learner-centered and active learning in English. Problem-based Learning (PBL) is one of the well-known constructive teaching and learning methodologies in higher education. Our research goal was to design and develop the optimal PBL practices for a college physics course taught in English to promote learning and course satisfaction. For four semesters, we have tried and adjusted PBL components, and looked at the trend of the exam scores and group work achievement in each semester. We found that the number of problems and the duration of problem solving are the critical factors that influence the effect of PBL in a college physics course taught in English by going through iterative implementation. The iterative process of applying, designing, and constructing PBL to physics classes was meaningful not only in that we have found the optimal PBL model for learning a college physics course, but also in that we have been reflecting on the continuous interaction with learners during the course.

Proposed Institutional Diagnostic Reference Levels in Computed and Direct Digital Radiography Examinations in Two Teaching Hospitals

  • Background: The detectors of both computed radiography (CR) and direct digital radiography (DR) have a wide dynamic range that could tolerate high values of exposure factors without an adverse effect on image quality. Therefore, this study aims to assess patient radiation dose and proposes institutional diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) for two teaching hospitals in Ghana. Materials and Methods: CR and DR systems were utilized in this study from two teaching hospitals. The CR system was manufactured by Philips Medical Systems DMC GmbH, while the DR system was manufactured by General Electric. The entrance skin doses (ESDs) were calculated using the standard equation and the tube output measurements. Free-in-air kerma (µGy) was measured using a calibrated radiation dosimeter. The proposed institutional DRLs were estimated using 75th percentiles values of the estimated ESDs for nine radiographic projections. Results and Discussion: The calculated DRLs were 0.4, 1.6, 3.4, 0.5, 0.4, 1.1, 1.0, 1.2, and 1.7 mGy for chest posteroanterior (PA), lumbar spine anteroposterior (AP), lumbar spine lateral (LAT), cervical spine AP, cervical spine LAT, skull PA, pelvis AP, and abdomen AP, respectively in CR system. In the DR system, the values were 0.3, 1.6, 3.1, 0.4, 0.3, 0.7, 0.6, 0.9, and 1.3 for chest PA, lumbar spine AP, lumbar spine LAT, cervical spine AP, cervical spine LAT, skull PA, pelvis AP, and abdomen AP, respectively. Conclusion: Institutional DRLs in nine radiographic projections have been proposed for two teaching hospitals in Ghana for the first time. The proposed DRLs will serve as baseline data for establishing local DRLs in the hospitals and will be a valuable tool in optimizing patient doses.

Developing a Web-Based System for Testing Students' Physics Misconceptions (WEBSYSTEM) and its Implementation

  • Several studies have attempted to test students' misconceptions of physics and to provide teaching strategies in order to repair them. The results from these studies have revealed that the diagnosis of students' misconception is crucial, although they often failed to grasp the practice of its implementation. In terms of being a type of methodology for science education, the Internet allows large-scale surveys and investigations to be carried out in a relatively short period of time. This paper reports the results of the development, implementation, and evaluation of a WEb-based SYStem for TEsting students' Misconceptions in physics (WEBSYSTEM) aimed at three groups (science educational researchers who study students' physics conceptions using the system as a detector, school science teachers who practice it as an instructional material, and students who benefit from it for their self-directed learning). The web-based testing system is based on a review of the instructional development strategies of ADDIE (Gustafson, Branch, 2002; Rha, Chung, 2001). Results showed that WEBSYSTEM could work effectively as a multi-purposed tool for the three target groups with a further partial revision, providing educational researchers with resourceful data to study students' misconceptions in physics. Issues of administrative strategies, reexamination of questionnaires, and international collaboration via WEBSYSTEM are discussed.

물리학습에서의 인지적 신념과 동기 신념에 대한 공과대학 학생의 인식과 교수자의 기대 비교 (Comparison Engineering Students' Beliefs with Professors' Expectations about the Cognitive Beliefs and the Motivational Beliefs in Learning Physics)

  • 공학 교육에서 물리학의 중요성에도 불구하고, 실제로 공과대학 학생의 물리학습 수행과 관련된 연구는 비교적 적은 편이다. 물리학습의 수행과 관련된 선행연구 결과에 의하면 물리학습에 대한 인지적 신념과 동기 신념은 물리학습에 강하게 영향을 미친다. 본 연구는 공과대학 학생의 물리학습에 대한 인지적 신념과 동기 신념에 대한 교수자의 기대와 공과대학 학생의 인식 비교를 통해서, 교육적 시사점을 얻고자 하였다. 물리학습에 대한 인지적 신념과 동기 신념의 5가지 하위 차원 중에서, 교수자의 기대와 공과대학 학생의 인식에서 가장 큰 차이를 보인 차원은 기대 차원이었다. 교수자들은 공과대학 학생들이 물리학습에 대해서 자신감을 가지기를 바라는데 비해서, 학생들의 자신감과 기대는 낮은 수준이다. 공과대학 학생에게 물리학을 가르치는 교수자는 이러한 차이를 인식하고, 신념적 측면의 정의적 영역에 관심을 가지고 지도할 필요가 있다. 또한, 공과대학 학생의 물리학습 수행에서의 과제 수행 능력에 대한 신념, 물리학에 대한 목적, 중요성, 흥미 등을 이끌 수 있는 교수 학습 전략을 고안할 필요가 있다.

A Meta-Analysis of Research on the Impact of Microcomputer-Based Laboratory in Science Teaching and Learning

  • In an effort to provide information about the effect of Microcomputer-Based Laboratory (MBL) use in science teaching and learning on student achievement and attitudes, a review of research analyzed studies was done between 1981 and 2001, using a meta-analysis procedure. Thirty-seven published and unpublished studies were reviewed. Use of MBL was shown to be potentially effective in the following condition of class; two students, physics teaching, more than one topic, or at the college level. Appropriate research design strategies, financial support (including hardware and software), and the use of more than one instrument for assessing the effect of the MBL instruction are crucial factors for more informative research studies. While helpful in many respects, the prior research revealed a number of problems related to the use of MBL in school science teaching and learning. The prior research does not support the desired intention described in the theory-based outcomes and reveals so little about how teachers and students use MBL, how it influences their teaching and learning, and how effectively it fits into the existing science curriculum. In order to know if the integration of MBL in the existing school science is worth it or not, more careful research design and comprehensive research should be done.

초등교사의 과학 교수에 대한 자기 이미지 조사 (Investigating Elementary School Teachers' Self-Images of Science Teaching)

  • 이 연구에서는 Draw-A-Science-Teacher-Test Checklist(DASTT-C)를 이용하여 국내 초등교사들의 과학 교수에 대한 자기 이미지의 특징을 조사했다. 서울시, 경기도, 강원도 지역의 초등교사 178명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시했다. 연구 결과, 국내 초등교사들의 과학교수에 대한 자기 이미지는 4개의 과학 과목(물리, 화학, 생물, 지구과학)에서 모두 '학생 중심'보다는 '교사중심'인 경향이 강했다. 이는 초등교사들의 과학 교수관이 구성주의보다는 전통주의적인 경향이 강할 가능성을 시사한다. 따라서 구성주의에 기초한 예비 및 현직 교사교육과정을 효과적으로 설계하는 방안을 마련할 필요가 있다.

새로운 과학 교육 프로그램의 개발과 평가 I - 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 이용한 물리 탐구 실험 연수를 중심으로 - (A development and evaluation of new training program for science teacher - focused on computer simulation inquiry experiments in physics -)

  • 본 연구에서는 Interactive Physics 시뮬레이션 프로그램을 이용한 교사 연수 프로그램을 개발하여 실시하고 그 효과를 분석하였다. 본 연수 프로그램의 목적에는 시뮬레이션 프로그램 활용 능력의 배양뿐 아니라, 물리개념의 이해와 탐구 기능의 습득, 나아가 과학적 탐구 학습 지도 능력의 향상이 포함되었다. 연수 프로그램은 15시간 동안 실시되었으며, 연수 후 설문지를 통해 효과를 조사하였다. 주요한 조사 결과는 다음과 같다: (1) 11년 경력 이상의 많은 교사들도 자발적으로 참여하였다. (2) 참여동기가 주로 내적인 동기였으며, 점수와 같은 외적인 동기는 없었다. (3) 연수의 내용 수준이 적절하였고, 연수자들이 모두 연수를 흥미로와 했다. 그러나 시간은 부족한 편이어서, 앞으로 2배 (30시간)정도로 확장할 필요가 있었다. (4) 강사의 전문성과 연수 환경에 대해서는 만족하였으며, 부분적으로 교육방법의 개선이나 교육자가 의사소통을 원활하지 위한 개선점이 발견되었다. (5) 연수자들은 모두 연수를 만족하였으며, 컴퓨터 활용 능력뿐 아니라, 개념이해나 탐구기능 습득, 나아가 탐구의 지도능력 함양에 대해 긍정적으로 응답하여 연수 목적이 달성되었음을 알 수 있었다. (6)대부분의 교사들이 현장에서 시뮬레이션을 활용하고 싶고 활용할 계획이라고 응답하였다.

코로나19 비대면 수업 환경에서 대학생들과 교수의 학업중단 인식 (University Students and Professors' Recognition of Dropout In Covid-19 Non-Face-To-Face Classroom Environment)

  • 코로나19로 대학 학사운영이 원활하게 이루어지지 못하고 대부분 비대면 수업으로 진행되자, 학생들의 학업중단은 꾸준히 증가하고 있는 추세이다. 이 연구에서는 코로나19 비대면 수업환경에 대한 물리학과 대학생들의 인식과 교수들의 인식, 코로나19 비대면 수업환경이 학생들의 학업중단에 미치는 영향을 포커스 그룹 인터뷰를 실시하여 분석하고 그 결과를 바탕으로 코로나 19 비대면 수업이 물리교육에 주는 시사점을 제시하였다. 물리학과 학생들은 코로나19로 인한 비대면 수업에 대해 '몸은 편한데 마음은 불편한 비대면 수업', '나보다 똑똑한 사람이 책 읽어주면서 설명하는 느낌', '짧은 동영상 강의, 편하지만 손해라는 기분'이라고 하였으며, 교수들 역시 '완전 180도 바뀐 수업체계', '부담감이 많은 온라인 수업'이라고 하였다. 학업중단에 대해서 학생들은 비대면 수업환경으로 학업중단에 대한 고민이 더욱 심화되어 전과에 대한 고민이 증가되었다고 하였다. 교수들은 비대면수업과 학업중단 증가로 활력이 사라는 학과분위기가 되었다고 하였다. 코로나19 비대면 수업상황이 물리교육에 시사하는 바로 교수와 학생간 상호작용을 강화하는 방안 모색과 실습수업을 보완할 수 있는 실재감을 높이는 수업방안 모색, 그리고 물리학 교수들의 교과교육학 지식을 공유할 수 있는 기회 부여가 필요함을 제시하였다.

환경 교수학습법에 대한 과학과와 사회과 교사들의 인식 (Perceptions of Korean Science and Social Science Teachers Regarding Teachers/Learning Methods for Environmental Education)

  • To meet the objectives of environmental education, teachers especially have to perceive the importance of environmental education, comprehend various characteristics of teaching/learning methods, and be able to conduct classes by choosing proper teaching/leaming methods in accordance with a specific purpose and educational focus about environmental education. Therefore, it Bs necessary to investigate the current status of Korean environmental education and provide teachers with appropriate environmental teaching/leaming methods. To this end this study aims to examine Korean science teachers'perceptions'on environmental education and the kind of teaching/learning methods which can be utilized in environmental education. Teachers who completed the survey were 135 science teachers from middle and high schools in Seoul, and 126 social science teachers from Kyoungki province. The majors of the science teachers were in physics, chemistry, biology, geology, and earth science. Also, there was one teacher who majored in special education. For social science teachers two majors were common, geography and general sociology. After analysis of the data from the surveys the results are as follows. First, science and social science teachers in middle and high school recognized the necessity of environmental education in school education. Second, most teachers had applied environment related topics to their subject of study occasionally, but they mostly concurred that environment related contents should be included in their textbooks. Third, science teachers agreed that field trip, discussion, and the STS approach were the most proper methods for environmental education, and social science teachers agreed that field trips, inquiry, and discussion were the most appropriate methods for a teaching environment. They realized that they should decide good teaching-learning methods appropriate to the objectives and content needed for effective environmental education as they selected different teaching-learning methods according to detailed environmental objectives and contents in their textbooks.
