Purpose: We investigated the impact of parent, teacher, and peer relationships on adolescent school life satisfaction and confirmed the mediating effects of delinquency experiences on this relationship in this study. The structural equation modeling technique was used to analyze survey data from 650 adolescents in the W area for this survey study. The following are the key findings: First, the more positive adolescents' relationships with their parents, teachers, and peers, the lower their delinquency and the greater their satisfaction with school life. The study also discovers that delinquency experiences have a mediating effect on the relationships between parents, teachers, and peers, as well as on adolescents' school life satisfaction. Based on these findings, we present convergent intervention and practice strategies for improving adolescent school life satisfaction.
The purpose of this study was to develop the Children's Social Support Scale to assess three potential aspects of social support in elementary school age children ; the children's subjective apprasials of family, peer, and teacher support ; the frequency of supportive behaviors available from the child's support network; and the size of children's social support network. The subjects of this study were 380 children of forth and sixth graders in elementary schools located in Seoul. The 68 items(perceived support scale 30 items, enacted support scale 35 items, and support network 3 items) were analyzed by the statistical methods of item analysis, principal factor analysis, Factor analysis revealed that a three factor solution was the best for the Perceived Support scale ; family peer, teacher support. Enacted Support scale comprised of three factors; emotional, self-esteem, and informational support. Support Network scale was composed of emotional, self-esteem, and informational support network. Reliabilities for the domains ranged form .75-89. It was concluded that the children's Social Support scale in general is acceptable for use in Korea.
The purpose of the present study was to explore the stability and changes of participant roles in the bullying process, namely, bullies, victims, followers, outsiders, and defenders. In addition, this study examined associated environmental characteristics of both followers and defenders in sixth graders among peer bystanders in the fifth grade. The participants consisted of 461 children from grades 5 to 6(male: 239, female: 222). Data were collected at one year intervals for two data points. The results indicated a moderate consistency in the participant roles the children take across time. Followers and outsiders tended to change differently in their roles one year later. On the other hand, defenders, bullies, and victims tended to keep the same role. The defenders group generally had higher levels of peer attachment, teacher attachment and community's supervision than the followers group. The implications for future research and intervention in bullying were also discussed.
This study investigated the relation between stressful life events and adjustment in elementary school children, with particular emphasis on the potential main and stress-buffering effects of social support and social problem solving skills. 4-6 graders (N=170) completed the Social Support Appraisals Scale(SSAS) and social problem solving skills task. The SSAS is a 31-item measure that taps the child's perceptions or appraisals of family, peer, and teacher support. Their parents provided ratings of stress in the child's environment and ratings of the child's behavioral adjustment. Teachers provided ratings of the child's behavioral and academic adjustment. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses and graphic display were used to analyze the data. The major findings were that (1) The results for parent-rated problems supported a stress-buffering model for family support and problem solving. (2) The results for teacher-rated problems were consistent with the stress-buffering model of social support. (3) The results for grade-point average supported a main effect model for problem solving. peer support, and family support. In addition, teacher support had the strongest stress-buffering effect on grade-point average.
Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the mediated effect of teacher-infant relationships between teacher efficacy and infant's adjustment to child care centers. Methods: A total of 137 child care teachers that lived in Gwangju and Jeollanamdo participated in this study. They were asked to answer two survey questionnaires for two infants. The data were analyzed using analysis of frequency, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. Results: The main results are as follows. First, teacher-infant relationships partially mediated the relationship between teacher efficacy and two sub-factors (prosocial behavior and day work adjustment) of adjustment in child care centers. Unlikely as it was, several sub-factors such as positive emotion, peer adaptation, and self-strength were fully mediated by teacher-infant relationships. Conclusion: The present study suggests that it is necessary to improve teacher-infant relationships with teacher efficacy in order to improve infants' adaptation to daycare. In addition, it should be understood that the structural relationship of the influence factors is different depending on the sub-factors of the child care adjustment.
The effects of personal(gender, physical growth) and environmental(communication with parent, intimacy of friendship, school performance, and satisfaction of school-life) factors on adolescent's self-esteem were examined in a samlpe of 525 first and second grades in middle school. The subdomains of the self-esteem were peer-related self, home self, teacher-related self, academic self, physical appearance self, physical competence self, personality self, and general self. T-test, Pearson's correlation, and regression were used as statistical analysis. Results were as follows. First, there was evidence of a gender difference in the level of the subsdomains of self-esteem: teacher-related, physical-appearance, physical-competence, and personality. Second, the factor which was the most powerful predictor of each subdomain of the self-esteem was as follows 1) the most powerful predictor of the peer-related self was the intimacy of friendship, 2) the most powerful predictor of the home self was the communication with parent, 3) the most powerful predictor of the teacher-related self was the satisfaction of school-life, 4) the most powerful predictor of the academic self was the school performance, 5)the most powerful predictor of the physical-appearance self, the physical competence self, and the personality self was the satisfaction of school-life, 6) the most powerful predictor of the general self was the school performance.

The purposes of this study were to test differences in conflict-resolving strategies and emotional intelligence based on children's peer status, and to verify the discriminance of conflict-resolving strategies and emotional intelligence for peer status. 58 popular children and 52 rejected children from 4 elementary school were selected, and the data were analyzed with independent sample t-test and discriminant analysis. The research findings are as follows: First, negotiation- and cooperation-strategies (sub-factors of conflict-resolving strategy) and emotional intelligence showed statistically significant differences between popular children and rejected children, while other sub-factors of conflict-resolving strategy and sub-factors of emotional intelligence showed indifference between them. Second, negotiation- and cooperation-strategies among 4 sub-factors of conflict-resolving strategy and 5 sub-factors of emotional intelligence were the most discriminant predictors for children's peer status. The results suggest systematic teacher training and program for the rejected children's improvement of negotiation- and cooperation-strategies in their peer relations.
The purpose of this study is to provide the basic data which can effectively improve young children's peer interaction behavior. For this purpose, this study examined the differences in the peer interactions of 4-year-old or 5-year-old children according to gender and age, and relationship among young children's temperament and emotion regulation, mother's emotional expressiveness, and teacher-child relationships, and then analyzed the relative influence of these variables on peer interaction behavior. The results are as follows. It appeared that boys' positive peer interaction is higher than girls'. Boys' negative peer interaction also is higher than girls'. In addition, the positive peer interaction of 5-year-old children is higher than that of 4-year-old children. As a result of examining the relative influence on peer interactions, children's emotion regulation ability is the most influential variable.
This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of good science teachings regarded by preservice elementary school teachers. It also aimed to suggest a direction of peer teaching practice to help preservice teachers' professional development. Adjacency pairs were adopted to analyze the characteristics of good science teachings. The results showed that pre-service elementary teachers were accustomed to adjacency pairs. Almost of their discourse were organized by adjacency pairs. 'Question-Answer' and 'Request-Accept' were mainly used in science classes by pre-service elementary teachers. Based on the findings, the study suggested science teacher educators to provide chances to analyze exemplary science teachers' science class or chances to analyze their science teachings in terms of competence of science classroom discourse.
