The key challenge in HW/SW co-design is how to choose the appropriate HW/SW partitioning from the vast array of possible options in the mapping set. In this paper we present a unique and efficient approach for addressing this problem known as Customized Heuristic Algorithm for Reducing Mapping Sets(CHARMS). CHARMS uses sensitivity to individual task computational complexity as well the computed weighted values of system performance influencing metrics to streamline the mapping sets and extract the most optimal cases. Using H.263 encoder, we show that CHARMS sieves out 95.17% of the sub-optimal mapping sets, leaving the designer with 4.83% of the best cases to select from for run-time implementation.

IEEE 802.1 TSN TG is developing standards for end-to-end delay bounds and zero packet loss based on Ethernet technology. We focus on packet forwarding techniques. TSN packet forwarding techniques can be classified into Synchronous and Asynchronous framework. Synchronous approach allocates fixed time period for a class, yet is complex for large networks. Asynchronous approach provides delay guarantee by regulator-scheduler pair, yet is unnecessarily complex, too. We propose network components for TSN Asynchronous architecture, which remove the complexity of maintaining flow state for regulation decisions. Despite such a simplicity, the proposed architecture satisfies the TSN's delay requirements provided the limited high priority traffic's maximum packet length.
Governance can be defined as a concept that encompasses a series of processes including partner selection as well as control and coordination of collaboration to achieve common goals. The study examined efforts to mitigate the risks of opportunistic behaviors into partner selection, partner relationship, control mechanism, and conflict management. For cases that have achieved commercialization outputs with the participation of SMEs, data was collected and analyzed such as interviews with project managers and case records for seven months from October 2016. According to the analysis result, as the complexity increases, such as multilateral cooperation for the development of finished products, cooperation with a trusted partner rather than a partner who can perform a task well was preferred, and the process control was put ahead of the output control. Regarding the partner relationship, the relationship between the owner and the agent differed according to the point of view, and there was a lack of clear allocation of authority and responsibility as well as a reward for the result. In terms of the conflict management, most emphasis was on resolving conflicts or difficulties, and no attempt was made to utilize the positive aspects of the conflict. The structure of most industry-university-institute cooperation organizations is simply composed of the host and participating organizations, and the management regulations should be amended for companies, that put actual funds and use the outputs, to have the authority and responsibility as the owners, and be allowed to use the governance elements appropriately to take the lead as consumers.

To reduce forgetfulness in continuous learning, in this paper, we propose an improved LwF model based on the knowledge transfer method, and we show its effectiveness by experiment. In LwF, if the domain of the learned data is different or the complexity of the data is different, the previously learned results are inaccurate due to forgetting. In particular, when learning continues from complex data to simple data, the phenomenon tends to get worse. In this paper, to ensure that the previous learning results are sufficiently transferred to the LwF model, we apply the knowledge transfer method to LwF, and propose an algorithm for efficient use. As a result, the forgetting phenomenon was reduced by an average of 8% compared to the existing LwF results, and it was effective even when the learning task became long. In particular, when complex data was first learned, the efficiency was improved more than 30% compared to LwF.

The development of the Internet of Things(IoT) requires large computational resources for tasks from numerous devices. Mobile Edge Computing(MEC) has attracted a lot of attention in the IoT environment because it provides computational resources geographically close to the devices. Task offloading to MEC servers is efficient for devices with limited battery life and computational capability. In this paper, we assumed an industrial IoT environment requiring high reliability. The complexity of optimization problem in industrial IoT environment with many devices and multiple MEC servers is very high. To solve this problem, the problem is divided into two. After selecting the MEC server considering the queue status of the MEC server, we propose an offloading decision algorithm that optimizes reliability and energy consumption using genetic algorithm. Through experiments, we analyze the performance of the proposed algorithm in terms of energy consumption and reliability.

Accurately predicting wartime resources requirements and preparing war supplies in peacetime is an important task that can determine the outcome of the war by guaranteeing the duration of the operation. The wartime warship damage rate is a measure of estimating the battle damage of our warships in the process of performing battles to achieve the war goal. In the previously studied wartime warship damage rate estimation method, when damage occurs, long-term repair is required due to the complexity and specificity of the ship structure. Only the case of a complete defeat at the level of sinking was defined as a damage, and even if it was impossible to perform a maritime operation mission, it was not estimated as a damage if the level of sinking was not reached. Therefore, in order to improve the reliability of the wartime warship damage rate, the equipment damage assessment level can be estimated based on the warhead weight of the threat weapon system, the vulnerability rate of the warship's equipment, and the warship's hull. In the future, it is expected that the estimation methodology proposed in this study will be used as a simulation logic when developing a model for analyzing the wartime resources requirements for the warship's equipment and hull.

Due to various project delivery methods and the complexity of construction projects in the construction industry, developing the framework of construction management for critical, highly complex projects in the construction industry has become problematic. Currently, a set of construction manuals play a pivotal role in planning and managing construction projects as subcontractors try to complete their scope of work according to the instructions of a general contractor. It is challenging for general contractors to write a construction management procedure manual to cover various types of project delivery methods and construction projects. In construction, the construction procedure manuals describe specific actions to be taken through the project. In reality a few contactors own such manuals and their construction schedules include more construction operation activities. Thus, it is hard to estimate the workload and productivity of construction managers because the manual and the schedule do not present the amount of management efforts required to complete a project. This paper proposes a framework to present construction management tasks according to project delivery methods which can be applied to various construction projects. Actions for management tasks were mapped and were integrated with construction activities throughout the project life cycle. The framework can then be used to give specific instructions to project participants, collect management actions, and replicate management actions throughout the project life cycle. The framework can also be can used to visualize complete construction project to analyze and manage construction management activities in each phase of a project in order to enhance productivity and efficiency. The studies of existing construction manuals were carried out to identify construction managers' responsibilities. An artificial intelligence program, CLIPS (C-Language Integrated Production System) was used to search for appropriate actions for impending tasks from a set of predefined actions to be performed for a given situation. The framework would significantly help construction managers to understand interrelations among management tasks or actions within a project. Furthermore, the framework can be embedded into Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Facility Management Systems (FMS) so that designers and constructors would execute constructability review before construction begins.
In this paper, we proposes real-time operating system based PCM encoder for telemetry system that must transmit frames within a set time. In the case of large aircraft, the complexity of the system is increasing because a lot of state information is measured from each sensor and peripheral device. In addition, as the amount measurement data increases, the role of PCM encoder to transmit frames within a set time is becoming important. Existing encoder is inflexible when changing specifications or implementing additional features. Therefore, a design is needed to supplement this. We propose a PCM encoder design applying uC/OS-II. In order to confirm the validity, a simulation was performed to measure the execution time of the task to confirm the performance.

Uncanny valley refers to the condition where the affinity of a human-like object decreases dramatically if the object becomes extremely similar to human, and has been hypothesized to derive from the cognitive load of categorical conflict against an uncanny object. According to the hypothesis, the present study ran an oddball task consisting of trials each displaying one among a non-human, human and uncanny face, and measured event-related potentials (ERPs) for each trial condition. In Experiment 1, a non-human face was presented in 80% of the trials (standard) whereas a human face for another 10% trials (target) and an uncanny face for the remaining 10% trials (uncanny). Participants' responses were relatively inaccurate and delayed in both the target and uncanny oddball trials, but neither P3 nor N170 component differed across the three trial conditions. Experiment 2 used 3-D rendered realistic faces to increase the degree of categorical conflict, and found the behavioral results were similar to Experiment 1. However, the peak amplitude of N170 of the target and uncanny trials were higher than the standard trials while P3 mean amplitudes for both the target and uncanny trials were comparable but higher than the amplitude for the standard trials. P3 latencies were delayed in the order of the standard, target, and uncanny trials. The changes in N170 and P3 patterns across the experiments appear to arise from the categorical conflict that the uncanny face must be categorized as a non-target according to the oddball-task requirement despite its perceived category of a human face. The observed increase of cognitive load following the added reality to the uncanny face also indicates that the cognitive load, supposedly responsible for the uncanny experience, would depend on the increase of categorical conflict information subsequent to added stimulus complexity.
Growth in the outsourcing market signals that firms of all sizes believe outsourcing will ultimately deliver many benefits and conveniences. But there are not many firms satisfied with the results of outsourcing. What is more, previous researches were fragmentary analyses focused on specific variables of outsourcing such as sourcing decisions, partnership rather than comprehensive analysis. Thus, they could not propose general systematic methodologies applicable to the real situation. To solve these problems, we developed an integrated theoretical framework that considered both contract with the hard side and trust with the soft side from a contingency viewpoint and tested this model using 143 data of Korean companies executing outsourcing. In addition, we examined how situational factors(outsourcing task complexity and outsourcing management competence) affects each path in the research model. The results of this study are as follows. First, it was proved the theory that trust is not a substitute for contract but its complement. Previous empirical studies on outsourcing success factors were focused on the establishment of successful partnership on the assumption that trust can replace contract in many situations. According to the results of our empirical analysis, however, contract and trust were in a mutually complementary relation with each other and their emphasis was different. Furthermore, different from previous researches, it was found effective to use trust as a supplementary tool and contract as a main means in outsourcing management strategy. Second, this study provided an integrated view that sees both contract and trust from a contingency viewpoint in theoretically reestablishing the relationship between contract and trust. Previous researches leaned to specific variables or theory-centered fragmentary analysis, but this study proposed a more practical and integrated research model and tested its effectiveness. Based on the results, with the model, decision makers are expected to scrutinize outsourcing situation more closely and to have a practical insight to the situation. Third, it was found that contract mechanism and trust building do not have a direct effect on outsourcing performance but relationship management intensity mediates the effect of contract mechanism and trust building. This is considered significantly meaningful to outsourcing partners who have believed that outsourcing would be successful if a contract is made properly or trust is built. Lastly, the path from trust building to relationship management intensity was moderated by informed buying, as the path coefficients from trust building to relationship management intensity varied by the degree of informed buying competence.
