  • This paper presents the shaking table testing method, only using building specimen as an experimental part taking into account the dynamic soil-structure interaction based on the substructure method. The Parmelee's soil stiffness is used as an assumed soil model in here. The proposed methodologies are summarized as: (1) Acceleration feedback method is the one that the shaking table is driven by the motion, corresponding to the acceleration at foundation of the total SSI system. This is found by observing the fed-back accelerations of superstructure and using the interaction force based on the acceleration formulation. (2) Velocity feedback method is the one that the shaking table is driven by the motion, corresponding to the velocity at foundation of the total SSI system. This is found by observing the fed-back accelerations of superstructure and using the interaction force based on the velocity formulation. The applicability of the proposed methodologies to the shaking table test is investigated and experimentally verified in this paper.

  • Modern society is an interaction between many different environments. It is important to the mutual relationships between people and especially between people and the environment. One of the mutual relationships between people and the environment is the traffic system, especially the traffic signals which give priority to pedestrian and traffic flow. Traffic signals for the pedestrian on the crosswalk contribute to a safe road environment for the pedestrian, while the traffic signals for the pedestrian running for the flickering of the green signal causes psychological stress. Therefore, this study investigated whether the walking velocity was influenced by the flickering of the green signal or not. Also, this study investigated whether the walking distance had an effect on the walking velocity of the elderly pedestrian or not. It was proved that the flickering of the green signal and the walking distance influenced the walking velocity and subjective sensitiveness according to the result of this study.

  • The swirling flow fields of a gun-type gas burner(GTGB) without a combustion chamber were measured by a straight-type five-hole pressure probe(FHPP) under the cold flow condition. The three kinds of velocity components and the static pressure were calculated by using a non-nulling calibration method covering the velocity reduction performance of the effective flow attack angle of ${\pm}80^{\circ}$. As a result, the velocity and static pressure measured by a FHPP comparatively shows the better performance on the swirling flow of a GTGB than those measured by X-probe.

  • This paper presents a systematic formulation for the kinematic and dynamic analysis of flexible multibody systems. The system equations of motion are derived in terms of relative and elastic coordinates using velocity transformation technique. The position transformation equations that relate the relative and elastic coordinates to the Cartesian coordinates for the two contiguous flexible bodies are derived. The velocity transformation matrix is derived systematically corresponding to the type of kinematic joints connecting the bodies and system path matrix. This matrix is employed to represent the equations of motion in relative coordinate space. Two examples are taken to test the method developed here.

  • In the crane control system, it is reguired that the travelling time of the crane must be reduced as much as possible and the swing must be stoped at the end point. In paper, we present a hybrid control method which include the optimal regulator and velocity pattern controller in order to make high performance of the anti-sway. To implement the control algorithm, the dynamic equation is linearlized at an equilibrium point, so that the liner time invariant state equation can be obtained. In order to experiment the crane control, we consider 1 over 10 of the gantry crane which is used in a port. As a result, the hybrid control method improve efficient anti-sway control more than conventional velocity pattern control. It is expected that the proposed system will make an important contribution to the industrial fields.

  • With the convention CW Doppler velocity meter, bi-directional velocities cannot be separated. The new CW Doppler system usee quadrature detection and phase rotation to Produce simultaneous independent audio and velocity signals for forward and reverse blood flow direction, is fabricated. Specially, this system shows that phase rotation method for flow direction separation provides easy and satisfactory feature. From in vivo blood flow measurement, can easily differentiate typical artery flow from vein flow. and measure both velocity characteristics qualitatively.

  • We have developed a Ultra Sound Pulsed Doppler System with two-dimensional M-mode image and Spectrum analyzer. The image of the M-mode is composed of time and depth axes. The Spectrum analyzer shows the spectrum of Doppler signal which represents the velocity component of time dependent blood-flow behavior. The spectrogram using Spectrum analyzer is composed of frequency and amplitude axes. The outputs of the system are audio signals, velocity curves, velocity profiles, M-mode images and spectrogram.

  • The main objective of this study was to clarify the origin of the unsteady flows arising in a mixed-flow vaneless diffuser system and also the effects of physical components of the system. The testing equipment consists of a straight tube, a swirl generator, and a mixed-flow vaneless diffuser. Pressure fluctuations of the flow through the tube and diffuser were measured by using a semiconductor-type pressure transducer and analyzed by an FFT analyzer. In the experiment, the velocity ratio (axial velocity/peripheral velocity) of the internal flow, and the geometric parameters of the diffuser were varied. Two kinds of unsteady flows were measured according to the combination of the components, and the origin of each unsteady flow was clarified. The fundamental frequencies of unsteady flows arose were examined by two-dimensional small perturbation analysis.

  • The energy recovery efficiency(ERE) of an aquifer thermal energy storage system was calculated using curvilinear coordinate. The results of the calculation were compared with the experimental results, and agreed within 11% of the discrepancy. The variation of ERE was investigated as a function of the underground water natural velocity, the amount of the stored energy, and period of the energy recovery. The slower the natural velocity and shorter the recovery period, the higher ERE was yielded. Also it was found that increase in the amount of energy storage yields higher ERE, and carries out less influential ERE to the natural velocity. Reiterative usage of the aquifer as a thermal storage tends to gradually increase ERE. The result of this study implements that the aquifer thermal energy storage system is suitable for large cooling/heating loads, such as district cooling/heating.

  • This paper introduced the new calibration algorithm of a straight-type five-hole pressure probe necessary for calculating three-dimensional flow velocity components. The new velocity data reduction method using both a commercial two-dimensional curve-fitting program and the zone partition method of a calibration map was firstly introduced in this study. This new calibration method can be applied up to the wide flow angle of ${\pm}80^{\circ}$ despite of using a five-hole pressure probe because this data reduction method showed a comparatively good performance in calculating yaw and pitch angles from the calibration map.
