The need for upgrading the seismic performance objectives

  • The economic consequences of large earthquakes require a revolutionary change in the seismic performance objective of residential and commercial buildings. The majority of total construction costs consist of non-structural and architectural costs. Therefore, the aim of this research is to upgrade current Life Safety performance objectives and to offset adverse effects on country's economy after an occurrence of large earthquakes. However, such a proposal cannot easily prove the feasibility of cost-benefit analysis in structural design. In this paper, six generic reinforced concrete frames and dual system structures designed based on Turkish Seismic Code were used in cost analysis. The study reveals that load bearing structural systems with Immediate Occupancy performance level in seismic zones can be achieved with negligible costs.

Hybrid Atmospheric Compensation in Free-Space Optical Communication

  • Since the direct-gradient (DG) method uses the Shack-Hartmann wave front sensor (SH-WFS), based on the phase-conjugation principle, for atmospheric compensation in free-space optical (FSO) communication, it cannot effectively correct high-order aberrations. While the stochastic parallel gradient descent (SPGD) can compensate the distorted wave front, it requires more calculations, which is sometimes undesirable for an FSO system. A hybrid compensation (HC) method is proposed by properly using the DG method and SPGD algorithm to improve the performance of FSO communication. Simulations show that this method can well compensate wave-front aberrations and upgrade the coupling efficiency with few computations, preferable correction results, and rapid convergence rate.

  • The objectives of this study are an establishment of developing strategies of environment-friendly agriculture(EFA) around the Daecheong and Chungju Dam. To establish strategic target, a series of farm household survey were conducted for farmers residing around the Dacchcong and Chungju Dam. The sample size of the survey is 233 respectively. As a result, the farmers rgcognized that EFA is fit for around Daecheong and Chungiu Dam as well as the prospects is very bright. In conclusion, the main streams to develop EFA are come up with vision and purpose around dam area, systematic connection of environment-friendly agricultural capability around dam area, construction of organic resource circulation system, and connecting propulsion with green tourism including quantitative and qualitative upgrade of environment-friendly agricultural products.

  • An image processing and pattern recognition program was developed in order to recognize the nummerinc displays on gas flow meters. the testing process of the accuracy of gas flow meters are to be automated, using the developed software. There are already many known pattern recognition algorithms for recognition of the letters. To upgrade the recognization accuracy, four different algorithms are applied in sequentially in the software. An calculation method to assign the weighting factors for the result of each algorithm was developed. It showed 98% accuracy by the pattern recognition of displaying numbers of gas mwters of 33 differnt types. This pattern recognition system is to be integrated in a industry.

  • In order to improve the recovery efficiency of heavy water vapour from the atmosphere inside a reactor building, and to recover and upgrade the heavy water which escape, special treatments, such as reducing the ingress of light water vapour, are studied in the design of the CANDU reactor systems. This is considered in controlled method of the humidity over drawing fresh air through a desiccant dehumidifier which dries the air by absorption. Comparing with the moisture loads between summer and winter operations, the moisture removal rates are calculated. Those are proportional to the difference between the controlled space and the surrounding environment Installation of a new dehumidifier will be able to reduce the moisture loads from the cooling systems, improving overall system efficiency and saving operating costs.

  • Single PPM Quality Innovation Movement is originally developed quality program in Korea for supplier's quality level-up since 1995. The quality target is below the 10ppm(parts per million) in outgoing quality and delivered goods plus field claim. Recently 1,053 companies is received Single PPM Quality Certification from government. This quality program is to realized the anticipated results not only duality level's increasing, but also company's confidence, competitiveness. We were able to obtain participations of 75 questionnaire, and derived statistics by means of SPSS/PC version 10.0. In this study, we find the bottleneck factor for promotion and upgrade S-PPM, and suggest a way out of difficulties.

  • 상용기기(Commercial Grade Item CGI)란 구조물, 시스템, 콤포넌트 또는 그것들의 일부분을 구성하는 것으로써 안전기능(safety function)에 영향을 미치지만 basic component로써 설계되거나 제작되지 아니한 것을 의미한다 즉, ASME/NQA-1 Appendix B의 엄격한 품질보증 프로그램 하에서 설계되고 제작되지 아니한 것으로써 원전 이외의 분야에서 상용적으로 널리 사용되고 있는 기기들을 의미한다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 원전 안전등급 분류기준 Non-Nuclear System(NNS) Simple에 해당되는 Non-Safety CGI를 Safety Application의 Nuclear Grade Item으로 사용하기 위한 CGI 평가 및 승인 절차를 제안하고 새로운 CGI 생명주기 모델을 제시하였다. 본 논문에서 제시한 CGI Dedication 절차 및 CGI 생명주기 모델은 우리나라 원전 계측제어계통의 디지털 upgrade plan 및 교체, 신규원전 상용기기 평가방법론에 적용할 수 있을 것이다. CGI Dedication은 10여년전부터 원자력계가 고민해온 분야로써 원전 계측제어계통의 디지털화에 따라 상용 (Commercial Off The Shelf : COTS) 소프트웨어의 승인과 함께 전세계적으로 hot issue가 될 만큼 활발한 연구와 논의가 현재 진행되고 있는 분야이다.

  • 현재 도서관 통합관리시스템의 소프트웨어 사용 방식은 클라이언트/서버 및 ASP 방식으로 서비스를 제공함으로써 하드웨어 및 소프트웨어 구매비, 설치 및 배포, Customization, Upgrade, 문제점 관리, 라이센스의 고비용 등 소프트웨어 전반에 걸쳐 관리가 힘들고 고비용의 문제점이 있다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해 모바일 클라우드 기반의 스마트도서관 정보서비스시스템에서는 멀티테넌트 환경에서 구현이 가능한 핵심요소들을 개발하였다. 그러므로 초기 투자비용이 거의 없고, 쉽고, 간편하며, 저비용 IT 서비스가 가능한 SaaS 기반의 소프트 웨어 온-디멘드 방식의 서비스 모델로 시스템을 구현하였다. 제안 시스템은 연결방식으로는 N고객:1인스턴스, 제공 프로그램은 동일한 코드 사용, 커스터마이징은 고객이 테넌트별 환경 설정을 통해서 직접 수정가능, 데이터는 테넌트별 자료를 공유해서 사용할 수 있으며 기존의 ASP 서비스의 단점을 해결할 수 있도록 성능을 개선하였다.

  • A human version of Korean total artificial heart(TAM) was designed basso on the magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) data To obtain accurate measurement or human thoracic structure including the valvular sited we analyzed the dimensions of the natural heart of healthy persons and cardiomyopathy(CM) patients. The MRI findings were analyzed to measure the volume of the thoracic cavity that would be occupied by the TAM. The design upgrade of the mechanical performed was also performed with the computer aided design(CAD) system to develop a new version of Korean TAH.

  • This research has been conducted in order to assess the effects on quality management factor of the construction sites. 30 companies abiding by the 'construction industry law' and 32 companies abiding by the 'housing construction promotion law' have been researched in areas of quality-management environment, quality-management understanding, quality-management education on construction field, quality-system and quality-improvement. This construction quality factors are to realized the anticipated results not only quality level's increasing, but also company's confidence, competitiveness. We were able to obtain participations of 62 questionnaire, and derived statistics by means of SPSS/PC version 10.0. In this study, we find the bottleneck factor for promotion and upgrade quality management factor of the construction sites and suggest a way out of difficulties.
