Rainfall Rate Forecasting for Satellite Link Analysis (위성링크분석을 위한 강우강도예측)

  • In the satellite system design, the design processes from the initial design to launch take about 5 years and the broadcasting satellite lifetime goes over 15 years. Furthermore, global warming phenomenon causes rainfall rate to increase more and more in some regions on the earth. Consequently, at the stage of the satellite link design, we need to consider the future rain attenuation over 20 years. In this paper, we investigated a time-series system model for forecasting to consider the future rainfall rate for the satellite broadcasting service. We found that rainfall rate of the future 20 years is increasing continuously.

  • Multi-Spectral Camera(MSC) is a payload on the KOMPSAT-2 satellite to perform the earth remote sensing. The instrument images the earth using a push-broom motion with a swath width of 15 km and a ground sample distance (GSD) of 1 m over the entire field of view (FOV) at altitude 685 Km. The instrument is designed to have an on-orbit operation duty cycle of 20% over the mission lifetime of 3 years with the functions of programmable gain/ offset and on-board image data compression/storage. The MSC instrument has one(1) channel for panchromatic imaging and four(4) channel for multi-spectral imaging covering the spectral range from 450nm to 900nm using TDI CCD Focal Plane Array (FPA). In this paper, the architecture and function of MSC hardware including electrical interface and the operation concept which have been established based on the mission requirements are described. And the design and the preparation of MSC system operation are analyzed and discussed.

  • Purpose: This paper reviews the papers on reliability issues which are published in the Journal of the Korean Society for Quality Management (KSQM) since 1965. The literature review is purposed to survey a variety of reliability issues for several categories Methods: We divide all of reliability issues into 9 categories: acceleration test, reliability estimation, system reliability, software reliability, reliability data collection and analysis method, lifetime distribution, maintenance and warranty strategy, reliability applications, and reliability applications to military area Results: Dividing all of papers on reliability published in KSQM for 50 years into 9 categories, we provide a chronological roadmap for individual categories, and summarize the contents and contributions of surveyed papers Conclusion: The review paper is expected to provide future direction to improve reliaiblity theories and applications in manufacturing and service industries

  • This study is about to constructing BOM for managing and integrating information, which is drawing, technical data, attribution, design, ordering, cost, weight, process, service, etc. based on train's system, elements, substructure, assembly, components, parts during whole train's lifetime of the next generation. The BOM is the mostly basic structure information as hierarchical data what are parts consisted specific products. The BOM was utilized as essential elements for collectively managing through informing all of the business activity from ordering to supplying. The BOM in railroad is consist of two parts. One is Engineering BOM for design, the other is Production BOM for production, which are utilized in development calculating the quantity of materials. Also the Maintenance BOM is applied to suppling parts and managing malfunction in railroad corporation like the Seoul Metro. There are many kind of BOMs, because of the special character for each step. Therefore We have need to develop BOM which is able to integrate drawing, technical data for helping good circulation between RAMS applied maintenance using database and helpful know-how for development and production. Also the BOM of the next generation must be consisted regard to whole life-cycle.

A parametric investigation on seismic performance of ageing Sarıyar dam

  • The assessment of seismic behavior and seismic performance of ageing Sarıyar concrete gravity dam constructed on Sakarya River in Türkiye is the main focus of this paper. For this purpose, the impact of sediment domain, ageing of concrete material under the impact of chemical and mechanical actions, and dam-water-sediment interaction are included in the two-dimensional (2D) finite element (FE) model developed in FORTRAN 90 environment. In the FE model, the dam and age dependent sediment domains are modeled by solid elements, while reservoir domain is modeled by Lagrangian fluid elements. The radiation of reflected waves to the unbounded water domain is modeled by infinite Lagrangian fluid elements, while unbounded sediment domain is modeled by infinite solid elements. The coupled system was assumed to be under the simultaneous impact of Vertical (V) and Horizontal (H) ingredients of 1976 Koyna earthquake and the coupled system was analyzed in Laplace domain by direct method. Due to the deterioration of the concrete, the H and V displacement responses together with the fundamental period of the body, elongate throughout the lifetime and this reduce the seismic safety of the dam. It was deduced that the ageing dam body will not experience major damages under the Koyna earthquake both at the earlier and later ages. Furthermore, at the heel of the dam, the hydrodynamic pressure responses are decreased by rising the sediment domain depth.

Activation Analysis of Dual-purpose Metal Cask After the End of Design Lifetime for Decommission (설계수명 이후 해체를 위한 금속 겸용용기의 방사화 특성 평가)

  • The Korea Radioactive Waste Agency (KORAD) has developed a dual-purpose metal cask for the dry storage of spent nuclear fuel that has been generated by domestic light-water reactors. The metal cask was designed in compliance with international and domestic technology standards, and safety was the most important consideration in developing the design. It was designed to maintain its integrity for 50 years in terms of major safety factors. The metal cask ensures the minimization of waste generated by maintenance activities during the storage period as well as the safe management of the waste. An activation evaluation of the main body, which includes internal and external components of metal casks whose design lifetime has expired, provides quantitative data on their radioactive inventory. The radioactive inventory of the main body and the components of the metal cask were calculated by applying the MCNP5 ORIGEN-2 evaluation system and by considering each component's chemical composition, neutron flux distribution, and reaction rate, as well as the duration of neutron irradiation during the storage period. The evaluation results revealed that 10 years after the end of the cask's design life, $^{60}Co$ had greater radioactivity than other nuclides among the metal materials. In the case of the neutron shield, nuclides that emit high-energy gamma rays such as $^{28}Al$ and $^{24}Na$ had greater radioactivity immediately after the design lifetime. However, their radioactivity level became negligible after six months due to their short half-life. The surface exposure dose rates of the canister and the main body of the metal cask from which the spent nuclear fuel had been removed with expiration of the design lifetime were determined to be at very low levels, and the radiation exposure doses to which radiation workers were subjected during the decommissioning process appeared to be at insignificant levels. The evaluations of this study strongly suggest that the nuclide inventory of a spent nuclear fuel metal cask can be utilized as basic data when decommissioning of a metal cask is planned, for example, for the development of a decommissioning plan, the determination of a decommissioning method, the estimation of radiation exposure to workers engaged in decommissioning operations, the management/reuse of radioactive wastes, etc.

Signal Analysis from a Long-Term Bridge Monitoring System in Yongjong Bridge (영종대교 계측시스템의 신호데이터 분석)

  • This paper presents schematically the monitoring system installed in Yongjong Bridge, a self-anchored suspension bridge located in the expressway linking Seoul and Incheon International Airport. Automatic measurement of instrumented civil engineering structures is now widely applied for behavior monitoring during construction in field as well as long-term monitoring for lifetime assessment of bridge structures. A representative example of results that can be acquired through structural health monitoring system is presented by means of data measured during a few years after the opening of the bridge. In order to effectively measure the tension force for hangers that have relatively short length or high tension force, a static tension measurement device has been explored. Newly equipped railway system on the existing bridge results in change of dead load, consequently dynamic characteristics have also been changed. This result can be detected by the monitoring system during and after railway construction.

Power Quality Disturbance Detection in Distribution Systems Using Wavelet Transform (웨이브렛 변환을 이용한 배전계통의 전력품질 외란 검출에 관한 연구)

  • Power quality has become concern both utilities and their customers with wide spread use of electronic and power electronic equipment. The poor quality of electric power causes malfunctions, instabilities and shorter lifetime of the load. In power system operation, power system disturbances such as faults, overvoltage, capacitor switching transients, harmonic distortion and impulses affects power quality. For diagnosing power quality problem, the causes of the disturbances should be understood before appropriate actions can be taken. In this paper we present a new approach to detect, localize, and investigate the feasibility of classifying various types of power quality disturbances. This paper deals with the use of a multi-resolution analysis by a discrete wavelet transform to detect power system disturbances such as interruption, sag, swell, transients, etc. We also proposed do-noising and threshold technique to detect power system disturbances in a noisy environment. To find the better mother wavelet for detecting disturbances, we compared the performance of the disturbance detection with the several mother wavelets such as Daubechies, Symlets, Coiflets and Biorthogonals wavelets. In our analysis, we adopt db4 wavelet as mother wavelet because it shows better results for detecting several disturbances than other mother wavelets. To show the effectiveness of the proposed method, a various case studies are simulated for the example system which is constructed by using PSCAD/EMTDC. From the simulation results. proposed method detects time Points of the start and end time of the disturbances.

Development of a purifying system to separate minute solid particles and water in oil (오일 속 미세입자 및 수분분리를 위한 청정기 시스템 개발)

  • In this research, a purifying system using a centrifugal filter equipped with a water separation component has been studied. Oil utilized for lubrication and cooling in marine engines becomes unable to achieve its original purpose over time as the accumulation of solid particles and water increases. Therefore, methods applying the Bernoulli equation to eliminate water in oil were investigated and proposed. As a result, a practical purifying system was designed and tested by an officially certified organization. The new purifying system is anticipated to contribute to the extension of the lifetime of oil in addition to damage reduction methods of mechanical parts.

Development of Wireless Control System for High Power LED Luminaire Using Bluetooth Wireless Communication and Current Control System (Bluetooth 무선 통신과 전류제어 시스템을 이용한 고전력 LED 등기구의 무선제어 시스템 개발)

  • An LED lighting control system was developed to combine information technology and LED lights for efficient management and energy savings. The system can monitor and control the status of an LED luminaire using Bluetooth wireless communication, sensor technology, and smart phones. An LED lighting control circuit was designed using a temperature sensor, illumination sensor, and Bluetooth module with a fuzzy constant-current control circuit. We extended the lifetime and prevented damage to the LED by optimizing the supply current of the LED luminaire based on the heat-generation temperature of $70^{\circ}C$ of an LED heat sink. We also automatically adjusted the ON/OFF time depending on the ambient illumination of the LED luminaire. By allowing easy control of the LED luminaires on a smartphone, we improved the efficiency and achieved energy savings. The control system was validated through experiments for normal operation.
