Study for Starting Performance of Line-Start Permanent magnet Synchronous Motors (1.5KW, 4극 LSPM 동기전동기의 기동 특성 연구)

  • The line-start permanent magnet synchronous motor has a high efficiency and an advantage in constant speed operation regardless of the effect of load variation. However it is difficult to predict the performance of characteristics accurately, because of the unbalanced starting torque with the initial starting position of the rotor and the generation of a break torque. In this paper the dynamic characteristics of the line-start permanent magnet synchronous motor are described and compared with those of the squirrel-cage induction motor through the simulation to find the characteristics of the permanent magnets and the rotor bars in the line-start permanent magnet synchronous motor. Finally this paper gives the comparison between the simulation results and the experiment results.

  • The Korea Multi-Purpose SATellite-2 (KOMPSAT -2) will be launched into a circular sun synchronous orbit in Dec. 2005. For the mission operation of the KOMPSAT-2 satellite, KARl Ground Station (KGS) consists of the Mission Control Elements (MCE), Image Reception & Processing Elements (IRPE) and the overseas stations. For the oversea stations, the Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT) is the prime supplier of support service. KSAT has the capability to provide Tracking Telemetry and Commanding (TT&C) nominal, contingency and anomaly support for every single orbit for most polar orbiting satellites. Also KSAT provides nodal service through the network management functionality for all oversea ground stations. This paper describes the oversea stations and the support for Launch and nominal TT&C services for KOMPSAT-2 and the operation plan for KOMPSAT-2.

  • Active AC/DC converters with PWM operation are utilized to regulate rectified DC bus voltage of a permanent magnet synchronous generator in the maritime DC power system. A DC bus voltage regulation strategy that exploits the six-step operation is proposed in this study. Compared with that of the PWM operation, switching loss of the converter can be significantly reduced under the six-step operation. Moreover, conduction loss can also be reduced due to the high modulation index and reduced flux-weakening current of the six-step operation. A controller is used for the proposed DC bus voltage regulation strategy to verify its validity with the simulation and experimental setup. The simulation and the experimental test results showed that the converter loss reduces to a maximum of 70% and 19%, respectively.

  • PMLSM(Permanent Magnet linear Synchronous Motor) has widely applied to industrial automations, machine tools and semiconductor equipments due to the merit on the reduction of noise, vibration and the superior dynamic characteristics in comparison to the conventional method, which uses mechanical transfer equipments. Especially, in the case of applying to Z-axis operation structure, control system needs the method of an initial angle setting and the improvement of up/down operation characteristics. This paper proposes an initial angle setting algorithm and a variable gain schedule using real speed and moving direction to improve up/down operation characteristics. The effectiveness of proposed algorithms Is demonstrated by comparing to a conventional gain system via 4-point absolute positions profile with each velocity, acceleration and deceleration.

  • This paper proposes a boost/flux-weakening controller (BFWC) for wide speed operation range having engine and interior permanent magnet synchronous generator (IPMSG) for special equipment vehicle. The proposed BFWC exploits direct torque/flux control (DTFC) scheme based on space vector modulation method to control the constant DC voltage output within the entire speed operation range of engine. And, to improve the response characteristics of maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) operation and flux-weakening operation, the MTPA and flux-weakening feed-forward controllers are applied. To estimate feasibility and usefulness of the proposed controller, the simulation and experimental results are compared.

  • This paper describes a new sensorless speed control method for permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) using direct torque control(DTC). The direct torque control offers fast torque response, lesser hardware and processing costs as compared to vector controlled drives. In this paper the current error compensation technique is applied for sensorless speed control of synchronous motor. Through this method, the controlled stator voltage is applied to the synchronous motor so that the error between stator currents of the mathematical model and the actual motor can be forced to decay to zero as time proceeds and therefore, the motor speed approaches to the setting value. Especially, any PI controllers are not necessary in this control method. The simulation results indicate good speed and load responses from the low speed range to the high.

  • In this paper, the non-isolation, high-efficiency and high-voltage-output DC-DC converter using the self-driven synchronous switch is proposed. The proposed converter achieves high-voltage-output by applying a tapped inductor to the conventional boost DC-DC converter structure, and it reduces the voltage stress of main switch applying the lossless capacitor-diode (LCD) snubber to the switch. And the proposed converter applies the synchronous switch instead of the diode to the output part, and thus it resolves the reverse recovery problem and achieves high-efficiency. The synchronous switch of proposed converter uses the self-driven method and has a simple structure. In this paper, the operation principle of proposed converter is explained, and then, a design example of the converter prototype is presented. And the characteristics of the proposed converter are shown through experimental results of the prototype made with the designed circuit parameters.

  • In this paper, a sensorless V/f control based on maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) operation for PMSMs is proposed. Given that the MTPA operation is not considered in the conventional sensorless V/f control, efficient PMSM drives cannot be achieved. Therefore, this paper proposes an improved technique based on the d-axis current control to enable the MTPA operation in the V/f control for PMSMs. A stabilization technique is also proposed to improve the dynamic characteristics and stability against load variation. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is verified by conducting experiments with a 250 W SPMSM for driving a blower.

  • This paper deals with operation characteristics of a written-pole motor (WPM), having that of a permanent magnet (PM) synchronous motor and induction motor at once. The WPM also has a magnet layer on the surface of the rotor and the exciter pole that is a device to make the magnet layer magnetized during the operation. This study, introducing a fundamental structure and operation characteristics of a single-phase WPM, proposes a initial design method. With those ground, a 130W, single-phase WPM that is designed for a home appliance is presented and verified with a performance through the experiment.
