  • Over the past few decades, the use of wind tunnels has been increasing as a result of the rapid growth of cities and the urge to build taller and non-typical structures. While the accuracy of a wind tunnel study on a tall building requires several aspects, the precise extraction of wind pressure plays a significant role in a successful pressure test. In this research study, a low-cost expandable synchronous multi-pressure sensing system (SMPSS) was developed and validated at Ryerson University's wind tunnel (RU-WT) using electronically scanning pressure sensors for wind tunnel tests. The pressure system consists of an expandable 128 pressure sensors connected to a compact data acquisition and a host workstation. The developed system was examined and validated to be used for tall buildings by comparing mean, root mean square (RMS), and power spectral density (PSD) for the base moments coefficients with the available data from the literature. In addition, the system was examined for evaluating the mean and RMS pressure distribution on a standard low-rise building and were found to be in good agreement with the validation data.

  • The principles for repair of bilateral cleft lip and nasal deformity are 1) symmetry, 2) primary muscular continuity, 3) proper philtral size and shape, 4) formation of the median tubercle and vermilion-cutaneous ridge from lateral labial elements, and 5) primary positioning of the alar cartilages to construct the nasal tip and columella. The authors underscore the essential role of preoperative premaxillary positioning for the synchronous closure of the cleft lip and primary palate, and describe Mulliken's operative technique. We discuss three-dimensional adjustments based on predicted fourth-dimensional changes. In a consecutive series of 50 patients, no revisions were necessary for philtral size or columellar length. Preoperative premaxillary positioning and primary repair of bilateral cleft lip and nasal deformity may impair maxillary growth. Nevertheless, a symmetric nasolabial appearance, rather than emphasis on maxillary growth, is the priority for the child with bilateral cleft lip.

  • The effect of glucose and 2-thiobarbituric acid on the biosynthesis of cell constituents such as protein, carbohydrate, DNA, RNA, phospholipid and PCA-soluble phosphate compounds in Chlorella duing the life cycle was measured, and the changes in the content of these main cellular components of the algal cell were analyzed in connection with the nuclear and cytoplasmic divison. In the normal autotrophic synchronous culture the contents of protein, RNA, and DNA in the cell showed a chracteristic changes according to the progress of cell development, increasing more or less throughout all the life cycle. The synthesis of protein is more prominent in the division period nad that of DNA is more active in the ripening period, while the synthesis of RNA is more rapid in the growing and ripening periods than other developmental stages. The period of division cycle was little affected by glucose in the medium, although the synchrony of the growth and cellular division was disturbed and the n value increased. The cotents of protein, carbohydrate, RNA nad DNA of the cell were increased by the glucose treatment throughout all the life cycle. On the other hand, both of cellular growth and division were retarded severely and the n value was decreased by the 2-thiobarbituric acid treatment throughout all the life cycle. On the other hand, both of cellular growth and division were retarded severely and the n value was decreased by the 2-thiobarbituric acid treatment. The synthesis of protein, carbohydrate, DNA, RNA and phospholipid of the cell was also retarded by 2-thiobarbituric acid. In the autotrophic, mixotrophic and 2-thiobarbituric acid-treated cultures, each having different mode cytoplasmic division, a common general schema occurring in the cell during the life cycle may be drawn as follows. The ratio of RNA to protein attains maximum value in the $L_1$-cell stage prior to the nuclear division and thereafter decreases during the periods of ripening and division. The ratio of PCA-soluble phosphate compounds to protein increased from the begining of the culture to $L_4$-cell stage successively and thereafter decreased gradually during the division period, while the ratio of protein to DNA kept almost constant up to the division period and thereafter increased during the division period. Therefore, it is presumed that the increase in the ratio of RNA to protein is to be an inducer of nuclear division and that the cytoplasmic division is induced by the increase in the ratio of protein to DNA.

  • Reproductive cycle and spawning rhythm with lunar cycle of the ascidian, Halocynthia hilgendorfi ritteri were investigated by histological examination. The specimens were sampled in the coastal waters of Yongdam, northwest of Jeju Island, Korea, from November 2001 to January 2003. H. hilgendorfi ritteri is a synchronous hermaphrodite; the gonads are located in the mantle. The reproductive cycle can be grouped into the following successive stages in the ovary: growth (February to June), vitellogenesis (April to September), mature (July to December), spent (November to February), and recovery (December to April). Likewise, in the testis, the stages observed were: growth (October), mature (October to December), spent (November to February), and resting (January to September). Major spawning probably occurs between November and January, when water temperatures decrease. The histological observations of the gonads suggested that this species is a multiple spawner during the spawning period. Spawning occurred between the new moon and full moon, and again between the full moon and new moon, suggesting that the spawning rhythm is influenced by the lunar cycle.

  • In this paper, we provide an overview of financial development in Vietnam. Particularly, a new approach of this study is to measure financial development through improvements in depth, efficiency and access of the banking system and stock market. Further, the study examines the factors significantly affecting financial development in Vietnam. The data are collected in Vietnam, an emerging country with a limited financial development. We employ the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach, which generates a high reliability and suits data characteristics of emerging countries like Vietnam. We observe that Vietnam's banking system plays a key role in supplying credits to the economy while the nascent stock market at a limited size shows its potential for a considerable growth in the future. We also find the influential determinants of financial development in Vietnam including real estate market (RE), economic growth (EG), consumer price index (CPI), and global financial crisis (GFC). These findings are essential for Vietnamese authorities in providing practical solutions in order to build a sustainable and synchronous financial development. They are also first empirical evidence relating to an overview of financial development in an emerging country, so they are not only valuable to Vietnam but also crucial to other emerging economies.

  • According to the rapid growth of high speed and precise industry, the application of synchronous motor has been increased. In the application fields, these fast dynamic response is of prime importance. In particular, since the PMLSM(Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor) has characteristics of high speed, high thrust, it has been used in high-performance servo drive. From these reasons, it is recently used for high precise position control, and machine tool. In this paper, a study of the sliding mode with VSS (Variable Structure System) design for a PMLSM is presented. For fast and precise motion control of PMLSM, the compensation of disturbance and parameter variation is necessary. Hence we eliminate the reaching phase use of VSS that is changed to switching function and vector control using the state observer. And we proposed to sliding mode control algorithm so that realize fast response without overshoot, disturbance and parameter variation.

  • Effects of GA and IAA on the respiratory and photosynthetic activity of each growth stage during the synchronous culture of Chlorella ellipsodiea, were investigated. 1) GA ($2{\times}10^{-8}M$) affected most insignificantly on the respiratory activity of the stages Dn, Da, $L_1$, $L_2$, $L_3$-cells but only at $L_4$-cells treated with IAA($10^{-3}/M$) were promoted and $L_3$, $L_4$-cells were suppressed. With the treatment of GA-IAA the effects on respiration of eah stage cells were antagonistic. 2) Photosynthetic activity treated with GA during the each stage of Chlorella cells was promoted and IAA treated-cell were suppressed. The effect of GA-IAA upon the process of life cycle was also antagonistic. 3) It was revealed that respiratory and photosynthetic activity of Chlorella cells by the treatment of GA(($2{\times}10^{-8}M$) and IAA($10{\times}^{-3}/M$) had antogonistic effects.

  • Highly crystalline 5H-polytypic form of sp3-bonded boron nitride (BN) was grown by pulsed-laser-vaporization of BN, where synchronous reactive-plasma packets assisted the crystal growth in the vapor phase. The structure of the product crystallites (˙5 micrometers) was confirmed by using transmission electron diffraction and electron energy loss spectroscopy. This material proved to have a sharp and dominant band at 225 nm by cathode luminescence at room temperatures and corresponding monochromatic images revealed that they uniformly emitted the ultraviolet light. Considering that cubic BN has already been doped as p- and n- type semiconductors, this material may be applied to the light-emitting devices working at almost the deepest limit of the UV region that is functional without vacuum.
