  • Bearingless SRM(Switched Reluctance Motor) is researched for high speed or special applications which can not use mechanical bearing such as bio pump. In this paper, a novel hybrid pole bearingless SRM is presented. The proposed hybrid pole bearingless SRM has salient poles for torque and suspending force production. Motor torque is controlled by the phase currents in torque pole windings, and the suspending force is controlled by suspending currents in four suspending windings for radial direction suspension. Because the proposed bearingless SRM has divided pole structure, mutual effects between torque current and suspending current are very lower than the conventional one's. From this structure, the number of power devices for power converter can be reduced for bearingless SRM driving. The proposed hybrid pole bearing less SRM is verified by the FEM analysis and experimental results.

  • The switched reluctance motors(SRM) are simple and robust in structure. Because the wide range of power and speed, their application field is increasing. In order to design the motors and to evaluate the performance of them properly, an accurate study about the analysis of motor characteristics is required. In this paper, for the analysis of SRM characteristics, the finite element method which is based on the solution of combined equations both the electromagnetic field equations and the circuit equations of stator is adopted. The analysis model is to he assumed two-dimensional and the nonlinear property of magnetic materials is considered by Newton-Raphson method. To verify the usefulness of the proposed algorithm, commercial SRM is chosen and simulated. The computed torques obtained by Maxwell Stress Tensor are compared with the experimental data and it is found that they are in good agreement. By applying the proposed algorithm to two cases, currents of stator and torques at every angular positions of rotor are obtained step by step. Comparing them, one can recognize that torque ripple of SRM can he improved by controlling the switching sequences of driving circuits.

  • SRM (switched reluctance motor) provides an excellent adjustable speed and torque characteristics. SRM has the possibility of maintaining full power over a wide speed range. So, many attempts are being done from home appliances to industrial applications. Especially, a traction drive of an SRM is one of a good application for it's DC-series characteristic. However, because of the switching mechanism and reluctance torque. it has some disadvantage of noise and vibration. It is difficult to adopt to an appliance demanding silency. Performance and noise tests with 6/4 and 12/8 SRM were excuted to compare the characteristics.

  • This paper is to research about design and drive system of a switched reluctance motor for a pallet truck application. SRM is suitable for a pulse type source and is researched for home and industrial applications owing to the advance of power electronics technology. An SRM for a pallet truck drive is developed and tested. The drive system has to operate with low voltage and high current. The small size, robustness and high efficiency make it possible to replace with DC motor which is used in a pallet truck conventionally. Test results show that pallet truck with SRM has better drive characteristics than that of the DC motor.

  • The design and analysis of a three-phase 6/8 structure SRM(switched reluctance motor) art described. The range of the stator ole arc and the rotor pole arc of the motor we analyzed in the linear region. The optimum range of the stator pole arc and the turn-off angle of the main switches in the power converter are given with the 2-D finite element electro-magnetic field calculation of the motor and the nonlinear simulation. Test results of the prototype are discussed. This type is good for high efficiency drive because the drive circuit is simple and current density and copper loss of the winding are law.

  • Single phase SRM(switched reluctance motor) can not be start by itself because positive torque is generated in limited section. Therefore single phase SRM need starting device which is place the rotor in positive torque section when motor is begun to start. The prototype of salient pole rotor type single phase SRM, fabricated in previous research, has permanent magnet starting device. It is installed in bottom of the rotor for starting by itself. But, it is affected the motor when driving and cause the decrease of torque and speed. On this paper, average torque of the prototype was measured according to installation of the starting device or not. And influence of the staring device on average torque was confirmed by comparison of the results.

  • In this paper, several inverter power circuit that are suitable for switched reluctance motor(SRM) drives are analyzed and compared with each other, Because the converter choice depends on the motor design, the analysis and selection are done for 6/4 SRM. Not considered in this paper is another class of inverter topologies for motor with bifilar windings. The proposed converter is applied to 3phase, 6/4 SRM.

  • This paper presents a new speed and position sensorless of Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) based on the sliding mode observer. The sliding mode observer structure and its design method are discussed. Also, Lyapunov functions are chosen for determining the speed and the stator resistance estimator. The effectiveness of the proposed observer system is confirmed by the computer simulation.
