Zinc has been considered as a vital constituent of proteins, including enzymes. Mobile reactive zinc ($Zn^{2+}$) is the key form of zinc involved in signal transductions, which are mainly driven by its binding to proteins or the release of zinc from proteins, possibly via a redox switch. There has been growing evidence of zinc's critical role in cell signaling, due to its flexible coordination geometry and rapid shifts in protein conformation to perform biological reactions. The importance and complexity of $Zn^{2+}$ activity has been presumed to parallel the degree of calcium's participation in cellular processes. Whole body and cellular $Zn^{2+}$ levels are largely regulated by metallothioneins (MTs), $Zn^{2+}$ importers (ZIPs), and $Zn^{2+}$ transporters (ZnTs). Numerous proteins involved in signaling pathways, mitochondrial metabolism, and ion channels that play a pivotal role in controlling cardiac contractility are common targets of $Zn^{2+}$. However, these regulatory actions of $Zn^{2+}$ are not limited to the function of the heart, but also extend to numerous other organ systems, such as the central nervous system, immune system, cardiovascular tissue, and secretory glands, such as the pancreas, prostate, and mammary glands. In this review, the regulation of cellular $Zn^{2+}$ levels, $Zn^{2+}$-mediated signal transduction, impacts of $Zn^{2+}$ on ion channels and mitochondrial metabolism, and finally, the implications of $Zn^{2+}$ in health and disease development were outlined to help widen the current understanding of the versatile and complex roles of $Zn^{2+}$.
Background: The purpose of this research was to examine the fall incidence rate and its related factors of fall in inpatients. Methods: The data were collected from the 138 fall incident reports in one tertiary hospital in Seoul from April 1st 1999 to September 30th 2001. The Fall Incident Report Form was originally developed based on that of Massachusetts General Hospital revised in 1995. And this was modified for this survey by the collaborating work of QI team including researcher and department of nursing service of this particular hospital. The contents of Fall Incident Form were general characteristics of patient. factors related to fall. types and places of fall. circumstances, nursing interventions. and outcome. Results: 1) The incidence rate of fall was 0.08% of total discharged patients and 0.081 per 1000 patient-day. This incidence rate is much lower than that of several hospitals in USA. This finding might result from the different incidence report system of each hospital. 2) The characteristics of fall-prone patient were found as follows. They were mostly over 60 years old, in alert mental status, ambulatory with some assistance, and dependent on ambulatory device. The types of diseases related high incidence rate were cerebrovascular disease(3.2), hypertension(1.6), cardiovascular disease(1.4), diabetes(1.3) and liver disease(0.6). 3) The majority of fall events usually occurred m bed. bedside(walking or standing) and bathroom in patient room. Usually they were up on their own when they fell. And there were more falls of elderly occurred during night time than day or evening. 4) 63.8% of fall events resulted in physical injuries such as fracture and usually the patients had diagnostic procedures and some treatment(ex. suture) which caused additional cost to the patients and their families. 5) The found risk factors of fall were drugs(antihypertensive drug, diuretics) and environmental factors like too high bed height, long distance of bedside table and lamp switch, and slippery tile of bathroom floor. Conclusion: Considering these results, every medical and nursing staff should be aware of the risk factors of patients in hospital, and should intervene more actively the preventive managements, specially for the elderly patients during night. Therefore, it is recommended that the development of Fall Prevention Programs based on these results.
In this paper, we researched the searching and tracking locations of a home resident using ON/OFF switches and sensors and designed a remote monitoring system. As an implementation environment, this system is developed on the base of the distributed object group framework we have developed from previous works. In order to trace the moving locations of a home resident, we firstly showed a home structure which attaches ON/OFF switches and sensors to home appliances and indoor facilities being fixed in home. Whenever a home resident opens/closes these objects, the signals operated from ON/OFF switches and sensors are sent to a home server system. In this time, the real locations of ON/OFF switches and sensors that the signals are being occurred must be the current location that he/she stays. A home server system provides the functionalities that map the real location of a resident in home to virtual location designed on remote desk-tops or terminals like PDAs, and that construct a healthcare database consisted of moving patterns, moving ranges, momentum for analyzing the given searching locations and times Finally, this system provides these information for remotely monitoring services.

Recently, visible light communication(VLC) is being actively researched as green wireless communication services are drawing attention. Currently, VLC mostly uses LED for transmission and PD(Photo Diode) for receiving. However, this kind of system has limited applications. Therefore, we design and propose in this paper, a LED-to-LED two way VLC system that doesn't use PD(Photo Diode). This system has the following features and contributions. First, this system uses just LED at both transmitter and receiver with analog switch, Second, this system support both one-way communication and two way communication together. One way communication can support multi-hop communication. The performance evaluation of the proposed system is conducted at a place with standard light. We test the success or failure of one way communication by changing distance and baud rate while test the success and failure of two way communication by changing distance. We expect that the proposed LED-to-LED system in this paper can be applied for various application fields.

In this paper, a fully-integrated low phase noise multi-band CMOS VCO using automatic level controller (ALC) and switched LC tank has been presented. The proposed VCO has been fabricated in a 0.13-um CMOS process. The switched LC tank has been designed with a pair of capacitors and two pairs of inductors switched using MOS switch. By using this structure, four band (2.986 ${\sim}$ 3.161, 3.488 ${\sim}$ 3.763, 4.736 ${\sim}$ 5.093, and 5.35 ${\sim}$ 5.887 GHz) operation is achieved in a single VCO. The VCO with 1.2 V power supply has phase noise of -118.105 dBc/Hz @ 1 MHz at 2.986 GHz and -113.777 dBc/Hz @ 1 MHz at 5.887 GHz, respectively. The reduced phase noise has been approximately -1 ${\sim}$ -3 dBc/Hz @ 1 MHz in the broadest tuning range, 2.986 ${\sim}$ 5.887 GHz. The VCO has consumed 4.2 ${\sim}$ 5.4 mW in the entire frequency band.

This paper presents a compact integrated transceiver module for 2.4 GHz band applications using Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic(LTCC) technology. The implemented transceiver module is divided into an RF Front-End Module (FEM) part and a transceiver IC chip part. The RF FEM part except an SPDT switch and DC block capacitors is fully embedded in the LTCC substrate. The fabricated RF FEM has 8 pattern layers and it occupies less than $3.3\;mm{\times}5.2\;mm{\times}0.4\;mm$. The measured results of the implemented RF FEM are in good agreement with the simulated results. The transceiver IC chip part consists of signal line, power line and transceiver IC for 2.4 GHz band communication system. The fabricated transceiver module has 9 layers including three inner grounds and it occupies less than $12\;mm{\times}8.0\;mm{\times}1.1\;mm$. The implemented transceiver module provides an output power of 18.1 dBm and a sensitivity of -85 dBm.
In this paper, we investigated several buffer management schemes for the design of shared-memory type ATM switches, which can enhance the utilization of switch resources and can support quality-of-service (QoS) functionalities. Our results show that dynamic threshold (DT) scheme demonstrate a moderate degree of robustness close to pushout(PO) scheme, which is known to be impractical in the perspective of hardware implementation, under various traffic conditions such as traffic loads, burstyness of incoming traffic, and load non-uniformity across output ports. Next, we considered buffer management strategies to support QoS functions, which utilize parameter values obtained via connection admission control (CAC) procedures to set tile threshold values. Through simulations, we showed that the buffer management schemes adopted behave well in the sense that they can protect regulated traffic from unregulated cell traffic in allocating buffer space. In particular, it was observed that dynamic partitioning is superior in terms of QoS support than virtual partitioning.

Recently, a fuel cell with low voltage and high current output characteristics is remarkable for new generation system. It needs both a DC-DC step-up converter and DC-AC inverter to be used in fuel cell generation system. Therefor, this paper, consists of an isolated DC-DC converter to boost the fuel cell voltage 380[VDC] and a PWM inverter with LC filter to convent the DC voltage to single-phase 220[VAC]. Expressly, The fuel cell system which it proposes DC-DC the efficient converter used PWM the phase transient control law and it depended to portion resonance ZVS switching, loss peek voltage and electric current of realization under make schedule, switching frequency anger and the switch reduction. And mind benevolence it sprouted 2 in stop circuit and it added and a direct current voltage and the electric current where the ingredient is reduced in load side ripple stable under make whom it will be able to supply. Besides the efficiency of 92[%]is obtained over the wide output voltage regulation ranges and load variations. Also, under make over together the result leads simulation and test, the propriety confirmation.
This paper introduces a load-balancing algorithm focusing on distributing web requests evenly into the web cluster servers. The load-balancing algorithms based on conventional periodic load-information update mechanism are not suitable for dynamic page applications, which are common in Cyber Foraging services, due to the problems caused by periodic synchronized load-information updating and the difficulties of work load estimation caused by embedded executing scripts of dynamic pages. Update-on-Finish algorithm solves this problem by using non-periodic load-update mechanism, and the web switch knows the servers' real load information only after their reporting and then distributes new loads according to the new load-information table, however it results in much communication overhead. Our proposed mechanism improve update-on-finish algorithm by using K-Percents-Finish mechanism and thus largely reduce the communication overhead. Furthermore, we consider the different capabilities of servers with a threshold Ti value and propose a load-balancing algorithm for servers with various capabilities. Simulation results show that the proposed K-Percents-Finish Reporting mechanism can at least reduce 50% communication overhead than update-on-finish approach while sustaining better load balancing performance than periodic mechanisms in related work.
The turnout system, which determines the direction of the train, is not only a key system but also a vulnerable system. Failure of this system may lead to a delay of the train or even casualties. In this light, it is necessary to precisely the conditions of the turnout system. Currently, ROADMASTER of Germany is used as a diagnostic system in Korea. However, a new diagnostic system should be developed for optimized operation of the turnout system with maintenance that is suitable for the Korean railway environment. In this paper, a Fault Tree Analysis for the representative faults of the turnout system is conducted and physical quantities, which can be the cause of the fault, are classified according to the component and function. Also, the measuring factors for the monitoring are derived and a decision making theory is suggested. On the basis of the results, we propose a new turnout diagnostic system that can provide more driverse and precise information than the conventional system.
