Thereshold Switching into Conductance Quantized Sttes in V/vamorphous- $V_{2}$ $O_{5}$/V Thin Film Devices (V/비정질- $V_{2}$ $O_{5}$ /lV 박막소자에서의 양자화된 컨덕턴스 상태로의 문턱 스위칭)

  • This paper investigated a new type of low voltage threshold switch (LVTS). As distinguished from the many other types of electronic threshold switches, the LvTS is ; voltage controlled, occurs at low voltages ($V_{2}$ $O_{5}$lV devices. The average low threshold voltage < $V_{LVT}$>=218 mV (standard deviation =24mV~kT/q, where T=300K), and was independent of the device area (x100) and amorphous oxide occurred in an ~22.angs. thick interphase of the V/amorphous- $V_{2}$ $O_{5}$ contacts. At $V_{LVT}$ there was a transition from an initially low conductance (OFF) state into a succession of quantized states of higher conductance (ON). The OFF state was spatically homogeneous and dominated by tunneling into the interphase. The ON state conductances were consistent with the quantized conductances of ballistic transport through a one dimensional, quantum point contact. The temeprature dependence of $V_{LVT}$, and fit of the material parameters (dielectric function, barrier energy, conductivity) to the data, showed that transport in the OFF and ON states occurred in an interphase with the characteristics of, respectively, semiconducting and metallic V $O_{2}$. The experimental results suggest that the LVTS is likely to be observed in interphases produced by a critical event associated with an inelastic transfer of energy.rgy.y.rgy.

  • All-optical networks(AON) are emerging as the next generation broadband networks for wide-area and local-area networks. Many optical switch architectures are currently proposed to realize AON. Specially, optical switches using WDM have a lot of advantages in point of the optical transparency and network topology for B-ISDN services in AON. In this paper, two kinds of Knockout Optical Switching Architectures(KOSA) are proposed for high speed optical ATM networks. We use WDM technologies for them to operate in all-optical area and they are called Architecture-Ⅰ, Architecture-Ⅱ respectively. Each one represents different characteristics according to the number of components and the kind of components, which make KOSA have different performance and system complextity. In order to verify and to compare the performance, these architectures were analyzed and simulated in terms of cell loss ratio, system complexity and buffering speed.

  • Recently, as Internet and its services grow rapidly, IETF(Internet Engineering Task Force) introduced a new switching mechanism, MPLS(Multi-Protocol Label Switching), to solve the problem of the scalability in Internet backbone. In this paper, we implemented the LSR loaded with VC-merging function, which causes LSR's management cost to be significantly reduced. We propose a new VC-merge function which supports differentiated services. In case of network congestion in the output buffer of each core LSR, appling link polices to the output modules of the LSR using the EPD algorithm can prevent the buffer from being overflowed. Simulation was performed for Diffserv by using multiple traffic models and investigated the impact of VC-merge method compared to non VC-merge method. The proposed switch is modeled in VHDL and fabricated using the SAMSUNG $0.5{\mu}m$ SOG process.

  • It is necessary to provide the QoS guaranteed end to-end routing services using the internet protocol through the connectionless network based on high speed network. From the above necessities, this paper classified the existing traffic into two type traffics such as real time traffics and non real time traffics and proposes the ATM based IP switching method with traffic type VC merging which allows many routes according to traffic type to be mapped to the same VC label. And this paper suggests the optimum switching architecture through simulation and performance analysis of proposed VC merging output module. From the simulation results, we confirmed the performance of the proposed method better than existing VC merging system under mixed traffic circumstances.

  • This paper presents a multi-channel capacitive touch sensing unit for SoC applications. This unit includes a simple common processing unit and switch array to detect the touch sensing input by capacitive-time(C-T) conversion method. This touch sensor ASIC is designed based on the Capacitive-Time(C-T) conversion method to have advantages of small current and chip area, and the minimum resolution of the unit is 41 fF per count with the built-in sensing oscillator, LDO regulator and $I^2C$ for no additional external components. This unit is implemented in 0.18 um CMOS process with dual supply voltage of 1.8 V and 3.3 V. The total power consumption of the unit is 60 uA and the area is 0.26 $mm^2$.

  • The purpose of the study was to develop a computer access assessment system for improving computer access of individuals with physical disabilities for the first time in Korea. Korea-Computer Access Assessment System (K-CAAS) presented in this article tests five user skills of aim, drag, menu, scan, and switch. Skill levels of the five test areas could be set as low, middle, and high according to individuals' characteristics. All tests have their default set in each level, and skill levels can be selected and controlled by the abilities and goals of a user. Tests could be selected for users' training and their results could be traced and shown. Therefore, the K-CAAS is a training program to improve computer access skills as well as an assessing program. It would help users with physical disabilities operate a computer by themselves as improving their computer access skills.

A Study on the Strategies for the Reduction of Port Pollution (환경의 환경오염 저감방안에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, International institution such as IMO and major maritime countries have introduced various regulations and steps to reduce port pollution. However, recognition of environmental pollution from ports is not sufficient for Korean policy makers and port communities. The purpose of this paper is to examine solutions to port pollution problems and suggests some implications to Korean ports to become a green port. To this aim, necessity of regulation on environmental pollution from port operation; literature survey on port's environmental pollution; current conditions of international port pollution; various regulations and policies governing major ports are conducted in this paper. Our main findings are as follows; first, air pollution from ship can be reduced by providing electric power at docks while at berth, Second, in case of cargo-handling equipment, retire old equipment and switch to cleaner fuel such as low-sulfur fuel and diesel emulsions. Third, offering incentives for the installation of pollution controls and minimizing idling by enforcing idling limits or by installing idle shutoff controls can be recommended for reduction of air pollution of truck and rail at ports.

  • The development of high voltage Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) have given new device advantage in the areas where they compete with conventional GTO (Gate Turnoff Thyristor) technology. The IGBT combines the advantages of a power MOSFET (Metal-Oxide Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor) and a bipolar power transistor. The change of electrical characteristics for IGBT is mainly coming from the change of characteristics of MOSFET at the input gate and the PNP transistors at the output. The change of threshold voltage, which is one of the important design parameters, is brought by charge trapping at the gate oxide under the environment that radiation exists. The energy loss will be also studied as the inductance values are changed. In this paper, the electrical characteristics are simulated by SPICE, and compared for variation of inductance and threshold voltage based on IGBT.

  • 광의 병렬처리 능력을 잘 활용한 1$\times$4 매트릭스 스위치의 구조와 전극구조를 설계하고 스위치 특성을 조사하기 위하여 beam propagation method(BPM)를 이용하여 수치계산을 하였다. 기존의 매트릭스 스위치는 대부분의 경우 방향성 결합기를 스위치 element로 이용하여 왔으나 이 결합기는 소자의 길이가 길기 때문에 단일 LinBO3 웨이퍼상에 집적할 수 있는 매트릭스 스위치의 크기가 제한되는 단점이 있다. 본 연구에서는 두 도파로 사이에 세 번째 도파로를 삽입하여 두 도파로를 결합시키는 세 도파로 결합기를 스위치 element로 사용하여 세 개의 스위치 element를 LiNbO3기판위에 직렬로 집적시킨 1$\times$4 매트릭스 스위치를 구성하였다. 스위치 element와 1$\times$4 매트릭스 스위치를 구성하였다. 스위치 element와 1$\times$4 매트릭스 스위치의 특성을 BPM을 사용하여 수치계산할 때 단일 모드 도파로의 유효 굴절을 분포는 n(X) = nm + $\Delta$ncosh-2(2x/w)의 형태로 가정했으며, 사용된 파라미터의 값은 각각 nm=2.1455, $\Delta$n=0.003, W=5$mu extrm{m}$, d=5$\mu\textrm{m}$, λ=1.3$\mu\textrm{m}$ 이고 S-파라메터의 값은 0.95927이므로 단일 모드 도파로가 된다. 계산결과 스위치 element의 결합길이는 3810$\mu\textrm{m}$이며 도파로의 길이가 결합길이와 같을 때 전극에 인가된 전압에 의한 도파로의 굴절을 섭등의 함수로 출력광의 세기를 계산한 결과 스위칭 전압은 14.85volt이고 crosstalk는 -18.9dB였다. 이 스위치 element로 구성된 1$\times$4 매트릭스 스위치는 스위칭 전압을 세 개의 전극에 적절한 조합으로 인가함으로써 한 입력 도파로에 결합된 광이 내개의 출력 도파로중 한 도파로에 스위칭 된다. 한편 수치계산의 결과를 실험적으로 확인하기 위해 스위치 element와 1$\times$4 매트릭스 스위치를 z-cut의 LinbO3 결정에 Ti을 열확산시켜 제작한 소자의 스위칭 특성을 발표할 예정이다.

An experimental study on the fire hazard of Sheath Heater (시즈히터의 화재위험성에 관한 실험 연구)

  • Recently, the fire by sheath heater has been occurred frequently on winter season. The sheath heater has simple internal structure and boils water simply. Therefore, the use of sheath heater has been increased. In this study, found the fire hazard property of sheath heater from understanding the fire mechanism through the experiment to get the measure for decreasing the occurrence of fire. For the analysis of the fire hazard property of the sheath heater, performed the test of temperature change and ignition temperature by using current product. On the result of test, the sheath heaters are the most dangerous appliance to arise fire. Water temperature controller attached to sheath heater is not sufficient to prevent overheating it. The sheath heater should have level switch of water and temperature controller for heater itself to shut off the power supply. Because the cause of fire by sheath heater is overheating itself in the situation of lack water.
