Low-area Dual mode DC-DC Buck Converter with IC Protection Circuit (IC 보호회로를 갖는 저면적 Dual mode DC-DC Buck Converter)

  • In this paper, high efficiency power management IC(PMIC) with DT-CMOS(Dynamic threshold voltage Complementary MOSFET) switching device is presented. PMIC is controlled PWM control method in order to have high power efficiency at high current level. The DT-CMOS switch with low on-resistance is designed to decrease conduction loss. The control parts in Buck converter, that is, PWM control circuit consist of a saw-tooth generator, a band-gap reference(BGR) circuit, an error amplifier, comparator circuit, compensation circuit, and control block. The saw-tooth generator is made to have 1.2MHz oscillation frequency and full range of output swing from supply voltage(3.3V) to ground. The comparator is designed with two stage OP amplifier. And the error amplifier has 70dB DC gain and $64^{\circ}$ phase margin. DC-DC converter, based on current mode PWM control circuits and low on-resistance switching device, achieved the high efficiency nearly 96% at 100mA output current. And Buck converter is designed along LDO in standby mode which fewer than 1mA for high efficiency. Also, this paper proposes two protection circuit in order to ensure the reliability.

  • This study compared the Character Studio of 3ds Max and OpenGL to find an adequate modeling method of character animation to be used in motion analysis in the area of motor mechanics. The subject was one male golfer. We obtained the positional coordinates of marks needed by photographing the subject's golf swing motions. Because the method based on the Character Studio used meticulously designed character meshes, it enabled high.level animation but it took a long time in applying physique and demanded the repeated adjustment of each motion data. With the method based on OpenGL, a character completed once could be usable to almost every testee and desired program control was available, but because each character had to be created by making a computer program, it was hard to make characters delicately. Because the method using the Character Studio is actively studied not only in motor mechanics but also in many research areas, it is expected to be more usable in the near future. On the contrary, the method based on OpenGL is easily applicable and allows the convenient use of other mechanical data.

Optimal State Feedback Control of Container Crane Using RCGA Technique (RCGA 기법을 이용한 컨테이너 크레인의 최적 상태 피드백 제어)

  • The container crane is one of the most important equipments at container terminal. If its working time in cycle could be reduced then container terminal efficiency and service level can be increased. So there are many i1forts to reduce working time of container cranes. It means how to design the controller with good performance which has small overshoot and swing motion of container crane. We, in this paper, present a state feedback controller based on LQ theory incorporating a RCGA which means real-coded genetic algorithm RCGA can search state feedback gains under given objective function. A set of simulation works are carried out in order to prove the control effectiveness of the proposed methods.

  • There are many efforts to mechanize the process for underwater port construction due to the severe and adverse working environment. This paper presents an underwater construction robot to level rubbles on the seabed for port construction. The robot is composed of a blade and a multi-functional arm to flatten the rubble mound with respect to the reference level at uneven terrain and to dig and dump the rubbles. This research analyzes the kinematics of the blade and the multi-functional arm including track and swing motions with respect to a world coordinate assigned to a reference depth sensor. This analysis is conducted interfacing with the position and orientation sensors installed at the robot. A hydraulic control system is developed to control a track, a blade and a multi-functional arm for rubble leveling work. The experimental results of rubble leveling work conducted by the robot are presented in land and subsea. The working speed of the robot is eight times faster than that of a human diver, and the working quality is acceptable. The robot is expected to have much higher efficiency in deep water where a human diver is unable to work.

  • A fully on-chip open-drain CMOS output driver was designed for high bandwidth DRAMs, such that its output voltage swing was insensitive to the variations of temperature and supply voltage. An auto refresh signal was used to update the contents of the current control register, which determined the transistors to be turned-on among the six binary-weighted transistors of an output driver. Because the auto refresh signal is available in DRAM chips, the output driver of this work does not require any external signals to update the current control register. During the time interval while the update is in progress, a negative feedback loop is formed to maintain the low level output voltage ($V_OL$) to be equal to the reference voltage ($V_{OL.ref}$) which is generated by a low-voltage bandgap reference circuit. Test results showed the successful operation at the data rate up to 1Gb/s. The worst-case variations of $V_{OL.ref}$ and $V_OL$ of the proposed output driver were measured to be 2.5% and 7.5% respectively within a temperature range of $20^{\circ}C$ to $90^{\circ}C$ and a supply voltage range of 2.25V to 2.75V, while the worst-case variation of $V_OL$ of the conventional output driver was measured to be 24% at the same temperature and supply voltage ranges.

  • To increase the stevedore efficiency and service level at container terminal, it is essential to reduce working time of container crane which has a bottle neck in the logistic flow of container. The working speed and safety are required to be improved by controlling the movement of the trolley as quick as possible without big overshoot and any residual swing motion of container in the vicinity of target position. This paper presents optimal state feedback control using RCGAs in the case of existing constrained conditions

  • Single-electron transistor (SET)-based logic cells and SET/FET hybrid integrated circuits have been fabricated on SOI chips. The input-output voltage transfer characteristic of the SET-based complementary logic cell shows an inverting behavior where the output voltage gain is estimated to be about 1.2 at 4.2K. The SET/FET output driver, consisting of one SET and three FETs, yields a high voltage gain of 13 and power amplification with a wide-range output window for driving next circuit. Finally, the SET/FET literal gate for a multi-valued logic cell, comprising of an SET, an FET and a constant-current load, displays a periodic voltage output of high/low level multiple switching with a swing as high as 200mV. The multiple switching functionality of all the fabricated logic circuits could be enhanced by utilizing a side gate incorporated to each SET component to enable the phase control of Coulomb oscillations, which is one of the unique characteristics of the SET-based logic circuits.

DC-DC converter, based on Voltage-mode PWM control circuits and low on-resistance switching device, achieved the high efficiency near 95% at 100mA output current. And DC-DC converter is designed with LDO in stand-by mode which fewer than 1mA for high efficiency.

  • In this paper, the transceiver for RFID reader using 13.56MHz as a carrier frequency and meeting International Standard ISO 14443 type A, 14443 type B and 15693 is presented. The receiver is composed of envelope detector, VGA(Variable Gain Amplifier), filter, comparator to recovery the received signal. The proposed automatic reference voltage generator, positive peak detector, negative peak detector, and data slicer circuit can adjust the decision level of reference voltage over the received signal amplitudes. The transmitter is designed to drive high voltage and current to meet the 15693 specification. By using inductor loading circuit which can swing more than power supply and drive large current even under low impedance condition, it can control modulation rate from 30 percent to 5 percent, 100 perccnt and drive the output currents from 5 mA to 240 mA depending on standards. The 13.56 MHZ RFID reader is implemented in $0.18\;{\mu}m$ CM08 technology at 3.3V single supply. The chip area excluding pads is $1.5mm\;{\times}\;1.5mm$.
