Investigation of smart multifunctional optical sensor platform and its application in optical sensor networks

  • In this article, a smart multifunctional optical system-on-a-chip (SOC) sensor platform is presented and its application for fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor interrogation in optical sensor networks is investigated. The smart SOC sensor platform consists of a superluminescent diode as a broadband source, a tunable microelectromechanical system (MEMS) based Fabry-P$\acute{e}$rot filter, photodetectors, and an integrated microcontroller for data acquisition, processing, and communication. Integrated with a wireless sensor network (WSN) module in a compact package, a smart optical sensor node is developed. The smart multifunctional sensor platform has the capability of interrogating different types of optical fiber sensors, including Fabry-P$\acute{e}$rot sensors and Bragg grating sensors. As a case study, the smart optical sensor platform is demonstrated to interrogate multiplexed FBG strain sensors. A time domain signal processing method is used to obtain the Bragg wavelength shift of two FBG strain sensors through sweeping the MEMS tunable Fabry-P$\acute{e}$rot filter. A tuning range of 46 nm and a tuning speed of 10 Hz are achieved. The smart optical sensor platform will open doors to many applications that require high performance optical WSNs.

  • 본 연구에서는 최근에 개발된 Hilbert-Huang 변환(HHT) 기법의 교각시스템에서 손상위치추정을 위한 적용성을 분석하였다. HHT기법으로 시계열의 순간주파수를 분석할 수 있음을 이용하여, 손상에 기인한 비선형 거동이 발생하는 때에 순간주파수의 변화를 분석함으로서, 손상부재와 위치를 추정하는 방법이다. 손상을 입은 교각 시스템에 대하여 수치모의실험을 수행하였는데, 이 때에 주파수가 점차로 증가하는 입력하중을 사용하였다. 연구결과로부터, HHT기법이 한정된 갯수의 가속도센서를 이용하여 계측오차가 포함된 조건하에서도 교각에 발생한 손상위치를 적절히 색출할 수 있다는 것을 알 수 있다.

Development of Defogger Equipped with a Roller Horsehair Brush

  • In order to remove fog often causes various troubles in our daily lives, the novel defog blower equipped the roller brush made of recycled horse's mane hair was developed. This work presents the overview of new defog devices and the experimental data obtained at two different kinds of defogging experiments. In the model experiment carried out at the enclosed cleanroom ($W5.9m{\times}L5.1m{\times}H2.4m$) targeted a vinyl house, fog was dissipated in less than 30 seconds in case with wind entrainment and two minutes 45 seconds in case without wind entrainment after running of the newly designed defog blower. When the demisting blower was run in a duct, it has an excellent mist sweeping qualities as well as a great removal effect for the background particles (89.5% and 65.4% scavenging rates for fine and coarse particles, respectively). It can be therefore said that the mist eliminator presented in this paper is ideal for use in the sealing space like a vinyl house and the industrial sites where required to remove both harmful mist and particle.

지상라이다를 이용한 건축물의 3차원 경계 추출 (3D Boundary Extraction of A Building Using Terrestrial Laser Scanner)

  • 지상라이다는 고정도의 3차원 영상을 제공하고 레이저빔을 현장이나 대상물에 발사하여 짧은 시간에 수백만점의 3차원좌표를 기록할 수 있는 최신 측량장비로서 다양한 응용분야에서 두각을 나타내고 있다 본 연구에서는 지상라이다를 이용한 아파트 건축물의 3차원 경계 추출을 다루었다. 실험측량결과 지상라이다로 아파트건축물의 3차원 경계를 신속하게 추출할 수 있었지만 지상기반시스템이므로 건축물 지붕 그리고 나무, 전주 때문에 건축물 저층부에서는 이것이 쉽지 않았다. 향후 토탈스테이션, 지상라이다, 항공라이다와 항공사진측량과의 결합을 통해 효율적인 3차원공간정보 획득이 가능할 것으로 기대된다.

아르곤 레이저의 소아치과에서의 임상적 적용 (CLINICAL APPLICATION OF ARGON LASER IN PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY)

  • Argon laser used in this case report, is special in having two wavelength of 488, 514nm blue-green visible light spectrum. Blue light is used for composite resin polymerization and caries detection. Green light is used for soft tissue surgery and coagulation. Maximum absorption of this laser light occurs in red pigmentation such as hemoglobin. The argon laser may be well-suited for selective destruction of blood clots and hemangioma with minimal damage to adjacent tissues. Argon laser light penetrates tissue to the 1 mm depth, so its thermal intensity is lower than $CO_2$ laser light. Also, due to its short wavelength it can be focused in a small spot and even single gene can be excised by this laser and microscopy. After applicating argon laser to 4 patient for surgical procedure and to 1 patient for curing the composite resin, following results were obtained. 1. Improved visibility were gained due to hemostasis and no specific technique were needed according to easy recontouring of the tissue. 2. Ability to use by contact mode, tactile sense was superior but tissue dragability and accumulation of tissue on the tip needed sweeping motion. 3. Additive local anesthetic procedure was needed. 4. No suture and less curing time reduced chair time, this made argon laser available in pediatric dentistry.

밀링공정에서 주축모터전류를 이용한 절입비 추정 (Immersion Ration Estimation Using Spindle Motor Current during Milling)

  • In order to regulate cutting torque in milling, monitoring system should be set to a certain threshold. Radial immersion ratio is an important factor to determine the threshold and should be estimated in process for automatic regulation. In this paper, on-line estimation of the radial immersion ration using spindle motor current in face milling is presented. When a tooth finishes sweeping, a sudden drop of cutting torque occurs. This torque drop is equal to cutting torque acting on a single tooth at the swept angle of cut and can be acquired form cutting torque signals. Average cutting torque per revolution can also be calculate form cutting torque signals. The ratio of cutting torque acting on a single tooth at the swept angle of cut to the average cutting torque per revolution is a function of the swept angle of cut and the number of teeth. Using the magnitude of this ratio, the radial immersion ratio is estimated. Identical algorithm is adopted to estimate the immersion ratio based on the spindle motor current measurement. The experiments performed under different cutting conditions show that the radial immersion ratio can be estimated within 10% error range by the proposed method using spindle motor current.

LDI 평면 이동에 의한 이미지 기반 Surfel 복원 (Image-based Surfel Reconstruction by LDI Plane Sweeping)

  • 본 논문은 입력받은 다수 이미지의 Visual Hull을 이용하여 Surfel 기반의 물체를 복원하는 새로운 방법을 제안한다. Sufel은 포인트 집합면을 효과적으로 근사하여 나타내는 포인트 표현 단위이다. LDC(Layered Depth Cube) Surfel 샘플링 방식에 입력 이미지로부터 근사되는 형상을 대표하는 Visual Hull의 개념을 연동하여 이미지로부터 물체의 Surfel 기하 정보를 생성할 수 있다. Surfel 표현 방식은 기존의 폴리곤 기반 방식에 비해 상대적으로 적은 메모리를 소모하고 LDC 해상도를 자유롭게 바꿀 수 있기 때문에, 대상 물체를 복원하는 품질을 조절 가능하며, 주어진 메모리 자원에 대해서 최대의 품질을 가진 결과를 얻을 수 있다.

정면밀링에서 절삭력을 이용한 절입비와 절산력비의 실시간 추정 (On-line Simulaneous Identification of Immersion Ratio and Cutting Force Ratio using Cutting Forces in Face Milling)

  • In this paper , presented is a method of on-line estimation of the radial immersion ratio and cutting force ratio using cutting force. When a tooth finishes sweeping, sudden drop of cutting forces occurs. These force drops are equal to the cutting forces that act on a single tooth at the swept angle of cut and can be obtained from cutting force signals in feed and crossfeed directions. The ratio of cutting forces in feed and cross-feed directions acting on the single tooth at the swept angle of cut is a function of the swept angle of cut and the ratio of radial to tangential cutting force. In the research, it is found that the ratio of radial to tangential cutting force is not affected by cutting conditions and axial rake angle. Therefore, the ratio of radial to tangential cutting force determined by just one preliminary experiment can be used regardless of the cutting conditions. Using the measured cutting forces, the radial immersion ratio is estimated along with the cutting force ratio at that immersion angle. Various experiments show that the radial immersion ratio and instantaneous ratio of the radial to tangential direction cutting force can be estimated by the proposed method very well.

압출 스크류 설계를 위한 CAD 시스템 개발 (An Integrated CAD System for Design of Extruder Screw)

  • The extruder screw is a part for extruding material in a injection molding machine. The screw's geometrical shape can mathematically be described by a sweep surface which is constructed by sweeping a section curve composed of a few circular arcs, along a helical guide curve. In the paper we developed a dedicated CAD system which basically is parametric in a sense that the system initially takes several design parameters to construct the geometric elements including the final sweep surface of the screw as well as section & guiding curves, along with feasibility check of the input parameter values, without further user interaction. The system has been developed as a built-in module onto a commercial CAD system, which can further incorporate additional NC-out functions with ease.

과제지향적 상지 운동과 가상현실 훈련이 뇌졸중 환자의 상지 기능과 균형, 우울감에 미치는 영향 비교 (Comparison of the Effects of Task-oriented training and Virtual reality training on upper extremity function, balance ability, and depression in stroke patients)

  • PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of task-oriented training and virtual reality training on upper extremity function, balance ability, depression in stroke patients. METHODS: Forty stroke patients were randomly allocated into a task oriented training group (TTG, n = 20), a virtual reality training group (VRG, n = 20). Both groups received the usual physical therapy. In addition, TTG patients underwent task training such as sweeping the table, cup stacking, carrying wood block. VRG patients underwent virtual reality training using X-box kinect. Both groups received 30 minutes of training per day, five times per week, for twelve weeks. RESULTS: After intervention, both groups showed significant improvement on upper extremity function, balance ability, and depression. VRG showed more improvement on upper extremity function, balance ability, and depression than TTG. CONCLUSION: According to the results of this study, task-oriented training and virtual reality training are feasible and suitable for stroke patients. And virtual reality training is more effective method than task oriented training.
