We have realized the swept source optical coherence tomography(SS-OCT) by using the self-fabricated wavelength swept laser(wavelength tuning range : 80nm, line-width : 0.12nm, wavelength sweeping rate : 50Hz). In addition, we have used the dual balanced detector that could make a mirror image in OCT display suppressed. We can also fabricate the comb filter of Michelson interferometer type for fast-signal processing in OCT. Using this SS-OCT system for measuring an mirror, a 1mm-depth glass and an onion, we confirmed that the in vivo epidermal cross-sectional images for them can be obtained appropriately.

This study is concerned with the root penetration resistance competence and constructability of a waterproofing and root penetration resistance layer of an eco-bridge which is applied with various types of seeding. For the review of root penetration resistance competence, the competence was tested using herbs, woody plants, and tall trees. As a result, there was no tear of or damage to the waterproofing and root penetration resistance layer as well as the sweeping-down phenomenon of a waterproofing and root penetration resistance layer by soil. Also, the effect of the root growth of herbs, woody plants, and tall trees on the root penetration resistance system was confirmed.

Plasma diagnostics using Langmuir Probe is of wide application because of its simplicity in measurement of electron temperatures and densities. Current methods using simple circuit and analog meters, however, have troubles when they are applied to time-varying or thermal plasmas. To overcome these problems and expand the area of applicability, we have designed fast electronic voltage sweeping circuit in which we can detect digital data. Diagnostics using our digital Langmuir Probe is performed in various kinds of plasmas and the results are shown. Our method can be applied to measuring electron temperature and density of high temperature or time-varying plasmas. And we expect further knowledge of each state of plasma.

When designing workplaces or arranging controls on panel, devices and controls should be placed within the reach of operator's arm or foot to guarantee effective performances. Most of the existing research on the reach volume were based on measurements of a few subject's arm reach, and limited to Caucasian and Chineses populations, and foot reach and trunk motion have been excluded. Range of human joint motion and that of two degrees of freedom motion are needed to generate reach volume analytically using the sweeping algorithm. Therefore, in this research, range of two degrees of reedom motion was measured, in which 47 college students were participated volumtarily as subjects. Second, new approximate algorithms generating reach volumes were suggested based on the robot kinematics, in which range of two degrees of freedom motion was considered. Our analytically generated reach volume showed statistically reasonable results when compared with that obtained from direct measurement.

In this technical note, I report the analysis of electrochemical impedance data measured with potential sweeping. Even though the instruments for voltammetric impedance measurements have been developed for decades using different approaches, their applications are limited due to the lack of well-established protocols to easily analyze voltammetry data. To fill this gap, the singular point of the specific potential is considered that is only determined by the standard/formal potential and the transfer coefficient and is independent of the kinetics and experimental parameters (including revertability) of faradaic reactions. Taking the advantage of its inertness, I suggest an approach employing the singular point as a reference to obtain general electrochemical information. As all the concepts and methods are verified with numerical simulations, this technique is expected to be applied for complex reactions involving electrochemical and chemical reaction mechanisms.

The information revolution is sweeping through the global economy. Information technology is transforming the structure of competition. The successful implementation of information technology is dependent on the effectiveness of information systems planning. However, it is very difficult to select an appropriate methodology for information systems planning given an organization situation. A contingency model is proposed on the selection of an appropriate approach depending upon the organizational situation. Although the contingency framework is not yet theoretically proved, the approaches suggested here turned out to be of benefit to the cases of the two real world projects studied. These approaches attempt to combine Business Systems Planning of IBM and Critical Success Factors in two different manners to make planning process more efficient and effective.

Nonlinear behavior analysis was used to verify whether a one-way clutch is effective for reducing the torsional vibration of a paired spur gear system under periodic excitation. The dynamic responses were studied over a wide frequency range by speed sweeping to check the nonlinear behavior using numerical integration. The gear system with a one-way clutch showed typical nonlinear behavior. The oscillating component of the dynamic transmission error was reduced over the entire frequency range compared to a system without a one-way clutch. The one-way clutch also eliminated unsteady continuous jump phenomena over multiple solution bands, and prevented double-side contact, even with very small backlash. Installing a one-way clutch on both sides of the gear system was more effective at mitigating the negative effects of external periodic excitation and various parameter changes than a conventional gear system without a one-way clutch.

This paper describes the runner and gate design capabilities of the RAMEDS system, which is a specialized CAD system for injection mold design, dcvcloped using the application procedure interface of the Unigraphics system. In this system, runners lying on sculptuted partlng surface can be modeled by projecting the runner trajectory on the surface and sweeping a selected cross section along the projcctcd trajectory. In addtion, the system provides solid modeling capabilities for three types of gates currently.

Numerical analysis has been conducted to simulate pedestrian flow in the model of two-storied subway station. Because almost all the subway stations are two or three storied structure, simulations are conducted for the passengers those who get off the train and pass the wicket. Passenger flow analysis is very important factor to design the station and also to manage the operation of subway system. In the subway station, pedestrians move to the horizontal directions as well as vertical ones. Therefore, to consider the movement of pedestrians is necessary for the guarantee of safety and conveniency. As the up and down floors are connected with step, escalator and elevator, the entire movements in the multi-storied station should be simulated as like a 3-dimensional flow. Numerical schemes for the directional sweeping are developed to prevent the dependency on physical structure of station and to determine primary direction and secondary one. By using the developed program, we compared the simulation results of the effects of the location and size of exit and elapsed time.

The Unites States has been plagued with soaring health care costs and an alarmingly large number of uninsured population. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 ushered in the most sweeping health care reform in the United States since the introduction of Medicare and Medicaid in 1965 to address these issues. The law's requirement for individuals to purchase health insurance (the so-called "individual mandate"), however, not only caused a political stir but also prompted constitutional challenges. Some questioned whether the federal government, lacking general police power, could require its citizens to buy unwanted insurance based on its enumerated powers under the U.S. Constitution. This paper summarizes the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court on the constitutionality of individual mandate, and explores how the decision relates to Korea's own universal health care.
