  • As a critical member of cable-stayed bridges, stay cables play on important role of supporting the entire structure. Traffic, wind or rain-wind induced vibrations of stay cables would be a major cause of degrading both safety and serviceability of the bridge. One of the effective alternatives to solve this problem is to employ the cable dampers. In order to design the cable damper optimally, it is necessary to exactly estimate the dynamic characteristics of the existing cables. To achieve more reliable dynamic properties of stay cables, precise excitations inducing forced vibration are needed. Therefore, in this study, a cable excitation system(exciter) controlled digitally was developed. And to evaluate the performance of the cable exciter developed, a solution of the differential equation of cable motion considering the exciter was derived, Using the cable exciter, sine sweeping and resonance tests on a cable model were carried out to obtain the dynamic characteristics effectively.

  • It has long been recognized that exposure to low levels of toxic chemicals could have beneficial effects, such as increased resistance to related chemicals or stimulation of growth or development. The notion of radiation hormesis, that exposure to low levels of ionizing radiation could produce beneficial effects, developed seriously in the late 1950’s, and was, to most radiation scientists, incredible. This was due in pan to the then prevailing ideas of radiobiological mechanisms, in part to the sweeping generalizations made by the leading proponents of the radiation hormesis concept, and in pan to the many failures to confirm reports of beneficial effects. More recent understanding of the mechanisms of radiation damage and repair, and discoveries of induction of gene expression by radiation and other genotoxic agents [the adaptive response] make it seem inevitable that under suitable conditions, irradiation will produce beneficial effects.

  • The gas dynamics in a stagnation point upflow OMVPE reactor were studied by Raman spectroscopy. The gas temperature was measured as a function of inlet gas velocity and aspect ratio for both H$_2$ and N$_2$ carrier gases. The centerline temperature gradient was latger at higher inlet velocities and with the use of N$_2$, and only weakly dependent on the aspect ratio. a tracer molecule, CH$_4$, was used to investigate the steady state behavior of reactants in the reactor, and the use of a sweeping flow was found to be a suitable method for preventing wall deposition. The transient switching response of the gas manifold was also investigated. Under certain conditions (low velocities, unmatched flows) recirculation flows were apparent. Numerical calculations of the reactor gas dynamics gave reasonable agreement with experimental results when detailed thermal boundary conditions were included.

  • In this paper, the low price signal generator with capability of frequency high-resolution and variable sync pulse has implemented. It fulfils well the requirements for SS-OCT of the frequency resolution less than 1Hz, frequency stability of ${\leq}{\pm}0.5Hz$/10 min and variable sync pulse output timing. Through its performance test applied to wavelength swept laser, 120 nm sweeping range and 10 mW average optical power were obtained. This shows that the realized sine-wave generator can replace the commercial high cost and high performance signal generators employed by current SS-OCT systems.

  • We report nonvolatile memory properties of poly (3, 4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) thin films grown by vapor phase polymerization using FeCl3 as an oxidant. Liquid-bridge-mediated transfer method was employed to remove FeCl3 for generation of pure PEDOT thin films. From the electrical measurement of memory device, we observed voltage induced bipolar resistive switching behavior with ON/OFF ratio of 103 and reproducibility of more than 103 dc sweeping cycles. ON and OFF states were stable up to 104 seconds without significant degradation. Cyclic voltammetry data illustrates resistive switching effect can be attributed to formation and rupture of conducting paths due to oxidation and reduction of PEDOT. The maximum current before reset process was found to be increase linearly with increase in compliance current applied during set process.

  • Although feature-based design is a promising approach to fully integrating CAD/CAM, current feature-based design approaches seldom provide methodologies to easily define and design features. This paper proposes a new approach to integrating parametric design with feature-based design to overcome those limitations by globally decomposing a design into a set of features and locally defining and positioning each feature by geometric constraints. Each feature is defined as a parametric shape which consists of a feature section, attributes, and a set of constraints. The generalized sketching and sweeping techniques are used to simplify the process of designing features. The proposed approach is knowledge-based and its computational efficiency in geometric reasoning is improved greatly. Parametrically designed features not only have the advantage of allowing users to efficiently perform design changes, but also provide designers with a natural design environment in which they can do their work more naturally and creatively.

  • This paper presents a practical technique for approximating the boundary surface of the volume swept out by three-dimensional objects using the depth-buffer. Objects may change their geometries and orientations while sweeping. The sweep volume is approximated as a union of volume elements, which are just rendered inside appropriate viewing frusta of virtual cameras and mapped into screen viewports with depth-buffer. From the depth of each pixel in the screen space of each rendering, the corresponding point in the original world space can be computed. Appropriately connecting these points yields polygonal faces forming polygonal surface patches approximately covering some portion of the sweep volume. Each view frustum adds one or more surface patches in this way, and these presumably overlapped polygonal surface patches approximately enclose the whole sweep volume. These patches may further be processed to yield non-overlapped polygonal surfaces as an approximation to the boundary of the original 3D sweep volume.

  • This paper proposes a new approach for modeling sweep surfaces. The overall modeling procedure consists of following steps : (1)remeshing the section curves based on the curve lengths ; (2)remeshing the guide curve and the boundary curves based on a given sweeping rule ; (3)obtaining intermediate section curves at the remeshed points of the guide curve by blending the initial section curves ; (4)compensation of the intermediate section curves ; (5)interpolating the initial and intermediate curves using Hermite interpolant. The resulting sweep surface is expressed in a G$^{2}$ bicubic parametric spline surface.

  • CMOS Reference Voltage Generator(RVG) is designed to possible CMOS process without additional process steps. It is possible to compensate the temperature of RVG by using PTAT(proportional to the absolute temperature). Temperature compensation is profitable because $\mun$ (electron mobility) is used. When VDD sweeps from 3V to 7V, variation ratio of Vref is 0.3125mV/V. Also temperature variation ratio of Vref is $047.1ppm/^{\circ}C$ during sweeping from $0^{\circ}C$ to $100^{\circ}C.$ Power Consumption is $50.3\muW.$

  • An experimental study of pool boiling behavior on micro-porous enhanced square heater surfaces immersed in PF5060 is performed. The effects of heater orientation, Subcooling and substrate distance on the pool boiling heat transfer performance for the double heaters were investigated under increasing heat-flux conditions. The boiling performance of micro-porous coated surface was better than that of plain surface. The double heaters with upper substrate of 0.2cm substrate interval have lower boiling performances compared with the results for the double heaters with that of 0.5cm and 1.0cm substrate interval and without the substrate. In comparison to upper heater and below heater with orientation, the upper heater has lower superheat temperature than the below heater due to the bubble sweeping.
