  • 임계 이중 연계혼합물인 nitroethane 과 cyclohexane 혼합물의 임계온도 근처에서 전기적 감수율 (electric susceptibility)을 전기용량의 온도에 대한 변화를 측정하여 얻었다. 비선형 효과를 관측하기 위하여 자기유도 타원편광축 회전에 의한 제3차 비선형 광학감수율을 측정하여 임계지수를 구하였다. 임계지수는 0.34 였다.

Environmental tobacco smoke and childhood asthma

  • In recent years, environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) has become an important worldwide public health issue. Children are particularly vulnerable to ETS because they are still developing. ETS exposure causes a wide range of adverse health effects on childhood asthma. There is convincing evidence that ETS exposure is causally associated with an increased prevalence of asthma, increased severity of asthma and worsening asthma control in children who already have the disease, even though a causal relationship with asthma onset is not yet established for asthma incidence. Mechanisms underlying these adverse effects of ETS are not clearly elucidated but e studies on this issue suggest that genetic susceptibility, impaired lung function, and augmented airway inflammation and remodeling may be involved. Children with asthma are just as likely to be exposed to ETS as children in general and there is no risk-free level of exposure. Therefore, providing a smoke-free environment may be of particular importance to the asthmatic children exposed to ETS who have adverse asthma outcomes, as well as to children with genetic susceptibility who are at increased risk of developing asthma upon exposure to ETS in early childhood.

  • Habituation to alkali condition and susceptibility to antimicrobial agents were investigated to determine methods t inactivation Escherichia coli O157:H7 associated with food poisoning. The investigation showed that Escherichia coli O157:H7growth at pH 9.0 The susceptibilities of Escherichia coli O157:H7 to 13 drugs examined were found highest in regad to saicin and ceftriaxone and lowest in regard to erythromycin and josamycin. No significant changes in minimal inhibitory concen-tration(MIC) values of bactericidal effect was found when saicin and ceftriaxone were irradiated with doses of 5-100KGy.

Effect of Maleylation on Physicochemical Properties of Soybean Glycinin

  • Soybean proteins appear to harbor a great deal of potential as functional ingredients due to the fact that they are composed of highly bioavailable peptides and amino acids. To develop drink- or gel-type foods formulated with soybean protein, the physicochemical properties of intact and chemically modified soy glycinin were assessed. Maleylation to soy glycinin altered the surface charges of glycinin via the modification of lysine residues, and subsequently generated the dissociation of glycinin subunits owing to the increase in charge repulsion. This modification thus improved the solubility of glycinin, particularly under acidic pH conditions. It is worthy of note that maleylation increased the susceptibility of the basic subunits of mTGase and the formation of a substantial quantity of molecules at a low protein solution concentration. The results of dynamic rheological studies indicated that the 5% intact glycinin progressively formed the gel with mTGase treatment in a concentration-dependent manner, but maleylated-glycinin did not.

  • Quasi-phase-match (QPM) can be realized by means of one-dimensional spatial modulation of second-order nonlinear susceptibility and has advantages over the conventional bulk phase-matching method because QPM can not only utilize the largest component of second-order nonlinear susceptibility tensor, but also can circumvent walk-off effect.   • The earth structures and in-ground LNG tank, and buildings can be constructed with using artificial freezing method on the reclaimed land. In this study, upon freezing a saturated soil in a closed-system from the top, a considerable pressure was developed. The pressure is the result of the surface energy of a curved ice-water interface. The most significant of these parameters will have the greatest effect on the classification. In order to establish frost-susceptibility criteria based on frost heaving expansion pressure, more soils have to be tested. This study was initiated to investigate the soils frost heaving expansion pressure and moisture characteristics resulting from freezing and freezing-thawing cycle process. Weathered granite soils, sandy soil, sandy soil were used in the laboratory freezing test subjected to thermal gradients under closed- systems.

  • The weldability and joint performance were evaluated for newly developed 60kg/mm$\^$2/ steel which had low cold cracking susceptibility. The main results obtained were as follows; In case of quenched and tempered 60kg/mm$\^$2/ steels, it was very effective to improve weldability and joint performance by lowering carbon and Pcm level. Very small addition of about 0.001 to 0.002wt% boron exhibited an appreciable compensation effect on strength which was decreased by lowering carbon and Pcm level. As a result, the newly developed steel was able to be welded without preheating and exhibited superior joint performance to conventional steels.

Large Unilamellar Phospholipid Vesicles as a Model Substrate for Phospholipase D

  • The hydrolytic susceptibility of large unilamellar vesicle (LUV) toward cabbage phospholipase D (PLD) was studied. The activity of PLD was determined by pH stat titration method. Using phosphatidylcholine LUV as substrate a pH optimum of 6.96 was observed. For maximal activity the optimal temperature of $31^{\circ}C$ and 10 mM of Ca2+ were required. The apparent Km value estimated was 2.5 mM. The hydrolytic activity of PLD toward PC LUV was somewhat high despite the absence of activator in assay system and this high susceptibility of PC LUV may be attributed to the structural properties of LUV. The effect of amphiphatic substances such as dicetyl phosphate and phosphatidic acid on the enzyme activity were also examined in mixed LUVs.
