  • Recently, the electrical DC survey has frequently been performed to assess the safety of embankment. This study showed that the damaged section of embankment could be appropriately detected by the survey only when the three dimensional effect was correctly considered. The shape of the three dimensional embankment was numerically implemented, and a proper modeling was performed to confirm the effect by analyzing the apparent and inverted true resistivity. Then, the field work was carried out. The three dimensional interpretation distinguished the erroneous weak zones from the geometrical artifact, and the embankment was ensured as safe both by the additional survey performed in rainy season and the partial excavation for direct observation.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in food and nutrient intake by smoking status among Korean. Food and nutrient intake in relation to smoking status was studied in 7,370 adults, aged 20 years and older in 1998 Korean National Health and Nutrition Survey, in which 24 hour recall method was used for dietary survey. Information of subject's smoking status was collected by interview as a part of health behavior survey. Analysis of variance was used to test the differences in food and nutrition intake among subjects following after Duncan's multiple range test among four different smoking exposure categories. Food intake of male ex-smoker was the highest in most of the food groups among the four groups of daily current smoker, occasional current smoker, ex-smoker and never smoker. There was significant differences observed in food intake of sugar, fruits, beverage, seasoning by the smoking status. It had been also observed that significantly high intake of energy from carbohydrate in non smoker compare to current smoker especially in male subjects. Fiber and vitamin C intake was also higher among non-smoker (never smoker and ex-smoker) than current smoker. In general, food and nutrient intake pattern of ex-smoker resembled those of never smoker than those of current smoker. Not likely the observation from European and American studies, fat intake was not statistically different between smoker (current) and non-smoker (ex-smoker and never smoker) among Korean.

  • A number of middle and high school students are selected at the Korea Astronomy Olympiad (KAO) in every year. In the first stage of the selection, the resume, school transcript, and recommendation letters from teachers are referred. In the second stage, after video lectures and weekend observation classes, students are tested with on-line homeworks, and interviewed through internet. For 118 students who have gone through the second stage of the 2012 KAO, we have conducted a questionnaire survey, which asks the students the motivation and preparation for the KAO. The survey has also included inquiries for the selection process and education program of the 2012 KAO; the replies will be used as feedbacks for the next year's KAO. The survey has revealed that the first stage worked well, while the second stage needs to be improved in terms of fairness and objectivity. We have found that most students received private tutorings for the KAO, so we suggest efforts should be made for students to be able to prepare the KAO without receiving private tutorings.

  • In tunnel construction, the information on the rock quality and the location of fault or fracture are crucial for economical design of support pattern and for safe construction of the tunnel. The grade of rock is commonly estimated through the observation with the naked eye of recovered cores in drilling or from physical parameters obtained by their laboratory test. Since drilling cost is quite expensive and terrains of planned sites for tunnel construction are rough in many cases, however, only limited information could be provided by core drilling Electrical resistivity and EM surveys may be a clue to get over this difficulty. Thus we have investigated electrical resistivity and EM field data providing regional Information of the rock Quality and delineating fault and fracture over a rough terrain. In this paper, we present some case histories using electrical resistivity and EM survey for the site investigation of tunnel construction. Through electrical resistivity and EM survey, the range and depth of coal seam was clearly estimated, cavities were detected in limestone area, and weak zones such as joint, fault and fracture have been delineated.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this research is to investigate the determinants of bakery revisit intention. This research selects Paris Baguette as the research context because the market share of Paris Baguette was the highest in Korean bakery market. Design/methodology/approach -This research employed revisit intention as the dependent variable, while this research chooses six attributes to account for revisit intention. Six attributes are price fairness, taste, product variety, accessibility, display, and membership. This research uses survey as the main instrument. For the data collection, online survey using Google survey form was implemented. The survey participants are domestic consumers of Paris Baguette. The number of observation is 245. For the data analysis, this study used frequency analysis, correlation matrix, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, and multiple regression model. There are four control variables, which contains age, gender, visiting frequency, and monthly income. Findings - The results shows that price fairness, taste, product diversity, and accessibility are significant attributes with the positive effect. Among the significant attributes, taste presented the highest magnitude to explain the revisit intention. However, membership and display appeared as non-significant attributes to account for bakery revisit intention. Research implications or Originality - This study provides the bakery managers with the information to design their service and product. This study also contributes to the literature by understanding the consumer behavior more in the domain of bakery service.

  • The main payload of Science and Technology Satellite 3 (STSAT-3), Multipurpose InfraRed Imaging System (MIRIS) is the first Korean infrared space mission to explore the near-infrared sky with a small astronomical instrument developed by KASI. The 8-cm passively cooled telescope with a wide field of view (3.67 deg. ${\times}$ 3.67 deg.) will be operated in the wavelength range from 0.9 to $2{\mu}m$. It will carry out wide-band imaging and the Paschen-${\alpha}$ emission line survey. After the calibration of MIRIS in our laboratory, MIRIS has been delivered to SaTReC and successfully assembled into the STSAT-3. The main purposes of MIRIS are to perform the observation of Cosmic Infrared Background (CIB) at two wide spectral bands (I and H band) and to survey the Galactic plane at $1.88{\mu}m$ wavelength, the Paschen-${\alpha}$ emission line. CIB observation enables us to reveal the nature of degree-scale CIB fluctuation detected by the IRTS (Infrared Telescope in Space) mission and to measure the absolute CIB level. The MIRIS will continuously monitor the seasonal variation of the zodiacal light towards the both north and south ecliptic poles for the purpose of calibration as well as the effective removal of zodiacal light. The Pashen-${\alpha}$ emission line survey of Galactic plane helps us to understand the origin of Warm Ionized Medium (WIM) and to find the physical properties of interstellar turbulence related to star formation. Here, we also discuss the observation plan with MIRIS.

  • The aim of this study is to identify changes of recognition to death before and after observation on the cadaver dissection to paramedical students. This study was done on 472 freshmen using questionnaire survey. Recognition to death questionnaire was consisted of 36 items. Data were collected before and after observation on the cadaver dissection with agreement of subjects. The data were analyzed using SPSS win 24.0. This study showed that recognition to death was significantly increased after observation on the cadaver dissection (3.19 points) than before observation on the cadaver dissection (3.06 points) (p=.000). Especially, anxiety on death was significantly increased (p=.000), and interest in death was significantly increased, too (p=.000). The results of this study suggest that we need positively to encourage observation on the cadaver dissection for paramedical students with providing program to decrease anxiety on death because of not only improving anatomy knowledge but also increasing recognition to death.
