Computational results from Navier-Stokes equations are presented for the Stokes-wave/flat-plate boundary-layer and wake for small wave steepness(Ak=0.01), including exact and approximate treatments of the viscous free-surface boundary conditions. The macro-scale flow indicate that the variations of the external-flow pressure gradients cause acceleration or deceleration of the streamwise velocity component and alternating direction of the cross flow. Remarkably, the wake displays a greater response, i.e., a bias with regard to favorable as compared to adverse pressure gradients. The micro-scale flow indicates that the free-surface boundary conditions have a profound influence over the boundary layer and near/intermediate wake. Order-of-magnitude estimates are conformed to the computational results. And appreciable errors are introduced through approximations to the free-surface boundary conditions.

It is expected that the soil hehaviours in the seahed subjected to cyclic wave loads are much different from that on the ground Cyclic shear stresses developed below the ocean bed as a result of a passing wave train may progressively build up pore pressure in certain soils. Such build-up pore pressure may be developed dynamic behaviour such as liquefaction and significant deformation of the seabed. Currently available analytical and testing methods for the seabed subjected to cyclic wave loads are not general. The purpose of the study are to provide a test method in laboratory and to analyse the mechanism of wave-induced stresses and liquefactions potentials of the unsaturated silty marine sand. It is showed that the test set-up made especially for this study delivers exactly oscillatory wave pressures of the form of sine function. Laboratory test results defining the cyclic shear strength of the unsaturated porous medium that is homogenously sedimented. It is understood that the pore water pressure due to induced-waves is not accumulated as the wave number increases but reveals periodical change on the still water surface. The magnitude of the pore water pressure tends to be attenuated radically with a certain time lag under the action of both high and low waves as depth increases.
A low-dimensional metal frequently exhibits a metal-insulator transition through a charge-density-wave (CDW) or a spin-density-wave (SDW) which accompany it's structural changes. The transition temperature is thought to be determined by the amount of energy produced during the transition process and the softness of the original structure. $AMo_4O_6$ (A=K, Sn) are known to be quasi-one dimensional metals which exhibit metalinsulator transitions. The difference of the transition temperatures between $KMo_4O_6$ and $SnMo_4O_6$ (A=K, Sn) is examined by investigating their electronic and structural properties. Fermi surface nesting area and the lattice softness are the governing factors to determine the metal-insulator transition temperature in $AMo_4O_6$ compounds.

Sectional added masses of an elastic beam vibrating vertically on the free surface in higher harmonic modes are evaluated. Hydrodynamic interactions between neighboring sections, which strip theory ignores, are considered for modal wave lengths of the order of magnitude of cross-sectional dimensions of the body. An approximate solution of modified Helmholtz equation which becomes a singular perturbation problem at small wave lengths is secured to get an analytic expression for added masses attending higher harmonic modes. As a bound of the present theory, the modified Helmholtz equation is solved for the long flat plate vibrating at high frequency on the water surface without any limitations on modal frequency. Finally, extensive series of numerical calculations are carried out for ship-like forms. It is found that when modal wave length is comparable to or shorter than a typical cross-sectional dimension of a body, sectional interaction effects are large which result in considerable reductions in added masses. For a fuller section, the ratio of added mass reduction is greater. In the limit of vanishing sectional area, the added masses approach to that of flat plate of equal beam. It is shown that the added mass distribution for a Legendre modal from can be determined form the present theory and that the results agree with the extensive three-dimensional determination of Vorus and Hilarides.

A new analytical method to determine the theoretical dispersion curves of Rayleigh wave in multilayered elastic media is developed. The method developed in this study gives the solutions for unlimited frequency, and is essential part of surface wave techniques to evaluate the layer profiles and dynamic properties of soils and pavement systems. Delta-Matrix technique is utilized to overcome the overflow and loss of precision problem inherent in the original Thomson-Haskell formulation at high frequencies. Conventional inversion methods based on the original Thomson-Haskell formulation lead to erroneous results due to the limitations on the layer profiles and the magnitude of frequency. The method developed in this study establishes the base of the research on more accurate and efficient inversion method, especially for the pavement systems as well as the natural soils.
For more reliable estimation of soil-structure interaction and seismic source and attenuation properties, site amplification function should be considered. This study use the Nakamura's method (1989) for estimating site amplification though various methods for the same purpose have been proposed. This method was originally applied to the surface waves of background noise and therefore there are some limitation for applications to general wave energy. However, recently this method has been extended and applied to the S wave energy successfully. This study applied the method to the coda wave energy which is equivalent to the backscattered S wave energy. We used more than 60 observed ground motions from 5 earthquakes which occurred recently, with magnitude range from 3.6 to 5.1 Each station showed characteristic site amplification property in low-, high- and resonance frequency ranges. In the case of comparing these results to those from S wave energy, lots of information to the site classification work can be gained. Moreover, removal of site amplification can give us more reliable seismic source parameters.
Based on the Boussinesq wave model, the wave distribution in the Chagui-Do sea area in Jeju was simulated by applying the directional irregular waves at an incident boundary. The time and spatial variations of monthly mean wave height and period were investigated, which aims to provide basic information on optimal sites for wave power generation. The grid size and time interval of the Boussinesq wave model were validated by examining wave distributions around a surface piercing wall, fixed at sea bottom with a constant slope. Except for the summer season, the significant wave height is dominated by wind waves and appears to be relatively high at the north sea of Chagui-Do, which is open to the ocean, while it is remarkably reduced at the rear sea of Chagui-Do because of its blocking effect on incident waves. In the summer, the significant wave height is higher at the south sea, and it is dominated by the swell waves, which is contributed by the strong south-west wind. The magnitude of significant wave height is the largest in the winter and the lowest in the spring. Annual average of the significant wave height is distinctively high at the west sea close to the Chagui-Do coast, due to a steep variation of water depth and corresponding wave focusing effect. The seasonal and spatial distribution of the wave period around Chagui-Do sea reveals very similar characteristics to the significant wave height. It is suggested that the west sea close to the Chagui-Do coast is the mast promising site for wave power generation.

Impact on cylindrical surface caused by plunging breaking waves is investigated experimentally. The breaking waves are generated in a wave flume by decreasing the wave maker frequencies linearly and focusing the generated wave components at one specific location. The breaking wave packets are based on constant wave steepness spectrum. Three inclination angles of cylinder are applied to examine the effect of contact angle between cylinder and front surface of breaking waves. Also, the effect of cylinder diameter on pressure distribution and its peak value is investigated by adopting three cylinders with different diameters. The longitudinal location of cylinder is slightly moved in eight different points to find out a probable maximum value of impact pressure. The pressures and total force on cylinder surface are measured by piezo-electric pressure sensors and 3-components load cell with 30kHz sampling rate. The variation of peak impact pressures and forces is analyzed in terms of cylinder diameter, inclination angle and location. Also, the pressure distribution on cylindrical surface is examined. The cylinder location and surface position are more important parameters that govern the magnitude and shape of peak pressures, while the cylinder diameter and inclined angle are relatively insignificant. In a certain conditions, the impact phenomenon becomes very unstable which results in a large variation of measured valves in repeated runs.
The induced linewidth, frequency shift and absorption spectrum for a molecular dipole in the vicinity of a phase -conjugate mirror have been investgated within a classical phenomenological model, with particularreference to the technique of optical phase conjugation by a surface. While the shifts and the widths show similar characteristics as those obtained recently by Bochove who considered the problem within the context of four-wave mixing, the results obtained in the present model can be defined uniquely with the possibility of an infinite lifetime for the excited admolecule . Furthermore, the absorption lineshape obtained here some interesting features which depend on both the magnitude and the phase of the complex reflectivity of the mirror.

Recently, as researches and developments for milli-structure and micro machine are actively progressing, manufacturing technologies and skills for tiny small machine parts are getting more important. So, we have been trying to cut using high revolution air bearing spindle and micro-endmill, and studying for magnitude of cutting force, cutting force wave form and surface roughness. We figured out that in 60,000rpm is so slow that cutting is not perfact. Chatter occured to $2\mu{m}/rev\;at\;80,000rpm\;and\;4.4\mu{m}/rev$ at 100,000rpm. We confirmed that spindle run out increased surface roughness at high revolution.
