Defects of dam body which can be induced in seepage or leakage procedure can directly affect dam safety. Therefore, a proper inspection method should be carried out in the first place to find out their positions and sizes. After that, some reinforcement works such as grouting and the corresponding assessment could be taken in a proper way. The dam(center core type earth dam) issued in this study has been in need for intensive diagnosis and reinforcement work, because a lot of slumps similar to cracks, seepage and some boggy area have been observed on the downstream slope. High resolution seismic reflection method was performed on the crest profile twice before and after grouting work(Aug. 2001 and Nov. 2004) aimed at the dam inspection and the assessment of grouting efficiency as well. To enhance the data resolution, P-beam energy radiation technique which can reduce the surface waves and hence to reinforce the reflection events was used. Strong reflection events were recognized in the stack section before grouting work, It seems that the events would be caused by e.g. horizontal cracks with a considerable aperture. Meanwhile such strong reflection events were not observed in the section after grouting. That is, the grouting work was dear able to reinforce the defects of dam body. Hence, the section showed an well arranged picture of dam inner structure. In this sense, seismic reflection method will be a desirable technique for dam inspection and for monitoring dam inner structure as well.

The goal of this study is to apply the IPCC(Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) concept of vulnerability to climate change and verify the use of a combination of vulnerability index and fuzzy logic to flood vulnerability analysis and mapping in Seoul using GIS. In order to achieve this goal, this study identified indicators influencing floods based on literature review. We include indicators of exposure to climate(daily max rainfall, days of 80mm over), sensitivity(slope, geological, average DEM, impermeability layer, topography and drainage), and adaptive capacity(retarding basin and green-infra). Also, this research used fuzzy model for aggregating indicators, and utilized frequency ratio to decide fuzzy membership values. Results show that the number of days of precipitation above 80mm, the distance from river and impervious surface have comparatively strong influence on flood damage. Furthermore, when precipitation is over 269mm, areas with scare flood mitigation capacities, industrial land use, elevation of 16~20m, within 50m distance from rivers are quite vulnerable to floods. Yeongdeungpo-gu, Yongsan-gu, Mapo-gu include comparatively large vulnerable areas. This study improved previous flood vulnerability assessment methodology by adopting fuzzy model. Also, vulnerability map provides meaningful information for decision makers regarding priority areas for implementing flood mitigation policies.
The construction of underwater structures has been increased, but underwater concrete hassome problems of quality deterioration and contamination around in-situ of civil and architecture; therefore, new materials and methods for them are demanded. In this paper in-situ application of underwater antiwashout concrete which is manufactured for trio purpose of not only decreasing suspended solids and the heat of hydration but also increasing long term strength was studied. In the case of mock-up test(Ⅰ), when underwater antiwashout concrete, whose slump flow was 58 cm, was placed in the mock-up test at a speed of 24 ㎥/hr, it took about a minute to flow to the side wall, and the surface was maintained at horizontal level. In this case, compressive strength of the core specimens in each section was higher than the standard design compressive strength of 240 kgf/㎠. In the case of mock-up test(II), pH value and suspended solids of high strength underwater antiwashout concrete were 10.0∼11.0 and 51 mg/ℓ at 30 minutes later, initial and final setting time were about 30, 37 hr, and the slump flow of that was 53$\pm$2 cm. In the placement at a speed of 27 ㎥/hr, there was no large difference in flowing velocity, with or without reinforcement and flowing slope was maintained at horizontal level. In this case, compressive strength and elastic modulus of the core specimens somewhat decreased as flowing distance was far : however, those of central area showed the highest value.
In the high convective gas flow condition, irregular shaped water waves from which droplet entrainment occurs are generated under horizontally stratified two-phase flow condition. KAERI proposed a new mechanistic droplet entrainment model based on the momentum balance equation consisting of the shear stress, surface tension, and gravity forces. However, this model requires correlation or experimental data of several physical parameters related to the wave characteristics. In the present study, we tried to measure the physical parameters such as wave slope, wave hypotenuse length, wave velocity, wave frequency, and wavelength experimentally. For this, an experiment was conducted in the horizontal rectangular channel of which width, height, and length are, respectively, 40 mm, 50 mm, and 4.2 m. In the present test, the working fluids are chosen as air and water. The PIV technique was applied not only to obtain images for phase interface waves but also to measure the velocity field of the water flow. Additionally, we developed the parallel wire conductance probe for the confirmation of wave height from PIV image. Finally, we measured the physical parameters to be used in the validation of new droplet entrainment model.

Anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases, particularly carbon dioxide($CO_2$) which arises mainly as wastes from the fossil fuel burning processes, are causing global warming. The effects of global warming become increasingly felt all over the world including sea level rise and extreme weather. The more direct consequences of the elevated atmospheric $CO_2$ on the ocean is the acidification of the surface ocean which brings a far reaching adverse impact on the life at sea and probably on the whole ecosystem of the planet. Improvement in energy efficiency and use of alternative energy sources are being made to reduce $CO_2$ emissions. However, a rapid transition to alternatives seems unachievable within a few decades due to the constraints on the associated technology and socio-economic factors in the world, since fossil fuels make up approximately 85% of the world's commercial energy demands. It has now been recognized that capture and geological sequestration of $CO_2$ could significantly reduce its emissions from fossil fuel utilization and therefore provides the means to rapidly achieve large reductions in $CO_2$ emissions(excerpts from London Convention, LC/SG 28, 2005). In Korea, well-developed sedimentary basins are spread over the vast continental shelf and slope regions, whereas, the land is densely populated and limited in area. Consequently, the offshore area is preferred to the land for the sites for geological sequestration. The utilization of the offshore area, however, may be subject to international agreements including London Convention. In this paper, the recent trends in technologies and regulations for $CO_2$ capture and geological sequestration are described to encourage its applications in Korea.

The accurate estimation of groundwater recharge is important for the proper management of groundwater systems. The widely used techniques of groundwater recharge estimation include water table fluctuation method, baseflow separation method, and annual water balance method. However, these methods can not represent the temporal-spatial variability of recharge resulting from climatic condition, land use, soil storage and hydrogeological heterogeneity because the methods are all based on the lumped concept and local scale problems. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to present an effective method for estimating groundwater recharge with spatial-temporal variability using the SWAT model which can represent the heterogeneity of the watershed. The SWAT model can simulate daily surface runoff, evapotranspiration, soil storage, recharge, and groundwater flow within the watershed. The model was applied to the Musimcheon watershed located in the upstream of Mihocheon watershed. Hydrological components were determined during the period from 2001 to 2004, and the validity of the results was tested by comparing the estimated runoff with the observed runoff at the outlet of the catchment. The results of temporal and spatial variations of groundwater recharge were presented here. This study suggests that variations in recharge can be significantly affected by subbasin slope as well as land use.
(1) The flow data of f (stress) and ${\dot{s}$ (strain rate) for Fe and Ti alloys were plotted in the form of f vs. -ln ${\dot{s}$ by using the literature values. (2) The plot showed two distinct patterns A and B; Pattern A is a straight line with a negative slope, and Pattern B is a curve of concave upward. (3) According to Kim and Ree's generalized theory of plastic deformation, pattern A & B belong to Case 1 and 2, respectively; in Case 1, only one kind of flow units acts in the deformation, and in Case 2, two kinds flow units act, and stress is expressed by $f={X_1f_1}+{X_2f_2}$where $f_1\;and\;f_2$ are the stresses acting on the flow units of kind 1 and 2, respectively, and $X_1,\;X_2$ are the fractions of the surface area occupied by the two kinds of flow units; $f_j=(1/{\alpha}_j) sinh^{-1}\;{\beta}_j{{\dot{s}}\;(j=1\;or\;2)$, where $1/{\alpha}_j\;and\;{\beta}_j$ are proportional to the shear modulus and relaxation time, respectively. (4) We found that grain-boundary flow units only act in the deformation of Fe and Ti alloys whereas dislocation flow units do not show any appreciable contribution. (5) The deformations of Fe and Ti alloys belong generally to pattern A (Case 1) and B (Case 2), respectively. (6) By applying the equations, f=$(1/{\alpha}_{g1}) sinh^-1({\beta}_{g1}{\dot{s}}$) and $f=(X_{g1}/{\alpha}_{g1})sinh^{-1}({\beta}_{g1}{\dot{s}})+ (X_{g2}/{\alpha}_{g2})\;shih^{-1}({\beta}_{g2}{\dot{s}})$ to the flow data of Fe and Ti alloys, the parametric values of $x_{gj}/{\alpha}_{gj}\;and\;{\beta}_{gs}(j=1\;or\;2)$ were determined, here the subscript g signifies a grain-boundary flow unit. (7) From the values of ($({\beta}_gj)^{-1}$) at different temperatures, the activation enthalpy ${\Delta}H_{gj}^{\neq}$ of deformation due to flow unit gj was determined, ($({\beta}_gj)^{-1}$) being proportional to , the jumping frequency (the rate constant) of flow unit gj. The ${\Delta}H_{gj}\;^{\neq}$ agreed very well with ${\Delta}H_{gj}\;^{\neq}$ (self-diff) of the element j whose diffusion in the sample is a critical step for the deformation as proposed by Kim-Ree's theory (Refer to Tables 3 and 4). (8) The fact, ${\Delta}H_{gj}\;^{\neq}={\Delta}H_{j}\;^{\neq}$ (self-diff), justifies the Kim-Ree theory and their method for determining activation enthalpies for deformation. (9) A linear relation between ${\beta}^{-1}$ and carbon content [C] in hot-rolled steel was observed, i.e., In ${\beta}^{-1}$ = -50.2 [C] - 40.3. This research was carried out to classify erosion shapes and sea-cliff erosion rates were estimated through periodic field survey in Dundu-ri, Anmyeondo. Based on the results of field measurements using the datum-point, the annual sea-cliff erosion rate was estimated about 25~102cm/yr by point. The erosion rate gradually increases from spring to summer, but tends to decrease slightly in autumn. Specifically, the erosion rate between June and July indicated a rather decreasing trend, but showed a sharp increase between July and September. This was attributed to erosion that proceeds more rapidly than during other periods due to severe rainstorms in summer that had a direct impact on the study area as well as storm surges caused by hurricanes. Afterwards, the sea-cliff erosion rate gradually decreased in autumn, but reflected an increasing trend again from December to January. This was attributed to the mechanical weathering that actively progresses as bed rocks on the sea-cliff undergo repeated freezing and thawing in winter. The seacliff in Dundu-ri is divided into three types according to the erosion shape. First, Type A is observed in the sea-cliff composed of the same bed rocks and hard rock stratum. Second, Type B is found in the sea-cliff with a relatively gentler slope compared to Type A, since weathering material including soil is formed on the surface of the sea-cliff consisting of the same bed rocks and hard rock stratum. Lastly, Type C is observed in the sea-cliff where hard rock stratum is mixed with soft rock stratum. In this case, the soft rock stratum slumps and erodes first by precipitation and wave energy, followed by additional slumping of the exposed hard rock stratum.

The effect of Pre-cooled Turbojet Engine installation and nozzle exhaust jet on Hypersonic Turbojet EXperimental aircraft(HYTEX aircraft) were investigated by three-dimensional numerical analyses to obtain aerodynamic characteristics of the aircraft during its in-flight condition. First, simulations of wind tunnel experiment using small scale model of the aircraft with and without the rectangular duct reproducing engine was performed at M=5.1 condition in order to validate the calculation code. Here, good agreements with experimental data were obtained regarding centerline wall pressures on the aircraft and aerodynamic coefficients of forces and moments acting on the aircraft. Next, full scale integrated analysis of the aircraft and the engine were conducted for flight Mach numbers of M=5.0, 4.0, 3.5, 3.0, and 2.0. Increasing the angle of attack $\alpha$ of the aircraft in M=5.0 flight increased the mass flow rate of the air captured at the intake due to pre-compression effect of the nose shockwave, also increasing the thrust obtained at the engine plug nozzle. Sufficient thrust for acceleration were obtained at $\alpha=3$ and 5 degrees. Increase of flight Mach number at $\alpha=0$ degrees resulted in decrease of mass flow rate captured at the engine intake, and thus decrease in thrust at the nozzle. The thrust was sufficient for acceleration at M=3.5 and lower cases. Lift force on the aircraft was increased by the integration of engine on the aircraft for all varying angles of attack or flight Mach numbers. However, the slope of lift increase when increasing flight Mach number showed decrease as flight Mach number reach to M=5.0, due to the separation shockwave at the upper surface of the aircraft. Pitch moment of the aircraft was not affected by the installation of the engines for all angles of attack at M=5.0 condition. In low Mach number cases at $\alpha=0$ degrees, installation of the engines increased the pitch moment compared to no engine configuration. Installation of the engines increased the frictional drag on the aircraft, and its percentage to the total drag ranged between 30-50% for varying angle of attack in M=5.0 flight.

Potential habitat mapping of Meretrix lyrata which is found in large parts of South East Asian tidal flat was carried out to find out causes of collective death. Frequency Ratio (FR) method, one of geospatialstatistical method, was employed with some benthic environmental factors; Digital elevation model (DEM) made from Landsat imagery, slope, tidal channel distance, tidal channel density, sedimentary facesfrom WorldView-02 image. Field survey was carried out to measure elevation of each station and to collect surface sediment and benthos samples. Potential habitat maps of the all clams and the juvenile clams were made and accuracy of each map showed a good performance, 76.82 % and 69.51 %. Both adult and juvenile clams prefer sand dominant tidal flat. But suitable elevation of adult clams is ranged from -0.2 to 0.2 m, and that of juvenile clams is ranged from 0 to 0.3 m. Tidal channel didn't affect the habitat of juvenile clams, but it affected the adult clams. In the furtherstudy, comparison with case of Korean tidal flat will be carried out to improve a performance of the potential habitat map. Change in the benthic echo-system caused by climate change will be predictable through potential habitat mapping of macro benthos.
