Bacteria were isolated and identified from an advanced high-purity water system that supplies ultra-high purity water (UHPW) for 16-megabyte DRAM semiconductor manufacturing. Scanning electron microscopic and microbiological observations revealed that the primary source of the bacteria isolated from the UHPW was detached cells from biofilms developed on the pipe wall through which the UHPW, a man-made and extremely nutrient poor environment, was passing. About 63-65% of the bacteria isolated from the UHPW and the pipe wall were Gram-positive, whereas only 10% of the bacteria isolated from the feed water were Gram-positive. The of Gram-positive bacteria and seven genera of Gram-negative bacteria. Strains of the UHPW bacteria effectively adhered to and formed a biofilm on the surface of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe.

The cordierite (MgO, SiO2, Al2O3) is of great interest for microelectronic packaging of integrated circuits. Its main advantages are low dielectric constant and low thermal expansion. The cordierite precursor is obtained by sol-gel synthesis using organic and inorganic compounds. The obtained cordierite precursor is an amorphous state at about 900\ulcorner. Green and fired cordierite samples were studied by SEM. Microanalysis X and TEM for microscopic properties. The fired cordierite shows forte diminution of Mg in comparison with its value at volume and the deficit of Mg compensates by sugmentation of Al and Si \ulcornercordierite and \ulcornercordierite are present near the surface (< 100) and small quantities of magnesium aluminate (MgAl2O4)is presented spinnel phase.
The characteristics of selective oxidation prior to hot-dip galvanizing with the annealing atmosphere dew point and chemical composition in dual-phase steels and their effect on the inhibition layer formation relevant to coating adhesion have been studied using a combination of electron microscopic and surface analytical techniques. The annealed and also galvanized samples of 3 kinds of Si/Mn ratios with varied amounts of Si addition were prepared by galvanizing simulator. The dew point was controlled at soaking temperature $800^{\circ}C$ in 15%$H_2$ -85%$N_2$ atmosphere. It was shown that good adhesion factors were mainly uniformity of oxide particle distribution of low number density and low Si/Mn ratio prior to hot-dip galvanizing. Their effect was the greatly reduced coating bare spots and the formation of uniform inhibition layer leading to good adhesion of Zn overlay. The mechanism of good adhesion is suggested by two processes: the formation of inhibition layer on the oxide free surface uncovered with no $SiO_2$-containing particles in particular, and the inhibition layer bridging of oxide particles. The growth of inhibition layer was enhanced markedly by the delayed reaction of Fe and Al with the increase of Si/Mn ratio.

In this paper, the characteristics of contact surface damage due to fretting in a press-fitted shaft below the fretting fatigue limit are proposed by experimental methods. A series of fatigue tests and interrupted fatigue tests of small scale press-fitted specimen were carried out by using rotating bending fatigue test machine. Macroscopic and microscopic characteristics were examined using scanning electron microscope (SEM), optical microscope or profilometer. It is found that fretting fatigue cracks were initiated even under the fretting fatigue limit on the press-fitted shafts by fretting damage. The fatigue cracks of press-fitted shafts were initiated from the edge of contact surface and propagated inward in a semi-elliptical shape. Furthermore, the fretting wear rates at the contact edge are increased rapidly at the initial stage of total fatigue life. After steep increasing, the increase of wear rate is nearly constant under the load condition below the fretting fatigue limit. It is thus suggested that the fretting wear must be considered on the fatigue life evaluation because the fatigue crack nucleation and propagation process is strongly related to the evolution of surface profile by fretting wear in the press-fitted structures.

Nano-silica's growing use in construction, known for enhancing strength and durability by reducing porosity, drives this research's significance, especially considering Ecuador's reliance on cement in construction. A comprehensive comparative study on mortars made with General Use cement and aggregates from Pifo and San Antonio quarries has been studied. It explores the impact of incorporating nano-silica in varying proportions (0.75%, 1.00%, 1.25%) on mortar properties, contrasting them with conventional and prefabricated mortars. laboratory Testing is conducted according to standards to assess both fresh and hardened state properties, and microscopic analysis reveals the optimal nano-silica proportion's effects on mortar characteristics. Results shows that Incorporating 0.75% nano-silica resulted in a 61% increase in compressive strength at 7 days and. For a nanosilica content of 1.25%, a 14% increase in compressive strength was observed at 28 days in relation to the conventional mortar and the permeability of the mortar decreased by 30% when adding 0.75% nanosilica. It discusses economic viability and provides insights through SEM and EDS analyses. Overall, it underscores nano-silica's potential to enhance mortar properties and its relevance in creating more efficient and durable construction materials.

Nano-sized iron particles were synthesized by reduction of $Fe^{3+}$ in aqueous solution under two reaction conditions, aerobic and anaerobic, and the reactivity of iron was tested by reaction with trichloroethene (TCE) using a batch system. Results showed that iron produced under anoxic condition for both synthesis and drying steps gave rise to iron with higher reduction reactivity, indicating the presence of oxygen is not favorable for production of nano-sized iron deemed to accomplish reactivity enhancement from particle sized reduction. Nano-sized iron sample obtained from the anoxic synthesis condition was further characterized using various instrumental measurements to identity particle morphology, composition, surface area, and particle size distribution. The scanning electron microscopic (SEM) image showed that synthesized particles were uniform, spherical particles (< 100 nm), and aggregated into various chain structures. The effects of other synthesis conditions such as solution pH, initial $Fe^{3+}$ concentration, and reductant injection rate on the reactivity of nano-sized iron, along with standardization of the synthesis protocol, are presented in the companion paper.
The behavior of rock mass is influenced by its microscopic feature of internal structure generating from forming and metamorphic process. This study investigated a new methodology for characterization of rock based on the X-ray CT (computed tomography) images reflecting the spatial distribution characteristics of internal constituent materials. The X-ray image based analysis is capable of quantification of heterogeneity and anisotropy of rock fabric, size distribution and shape parameter analysis of rock mineral grains, fluid flow simulation based on pore geometry image and roughness evaluation of unexposed joint surface which are hardly acquired by conventional rock testing methods.

The writing brush, ink stick, paper, and ink stone were the four precious things of the studying and recording in oriental world until even nowaday. The oriental paper was comparatively well evaluated in many papers and reviews, but it is difficult to find some scientific reports or reviews about the ink stick. In this paper, the scientific aspect of ink sticks of oriental maine three country(Korea, China, Japan) were evaluated by the physical, chemical and microscopic analysis. The result could summarized as fellows; 1. The Korean lampblack ink stick contains more carbon and less nitrogen and the Chinese ink sticks contain less carbon and more oxygen. 2. The Korean lampblack and cowhide glue contain relatively higher amount of sulphur. 3. The particle size distribution of carbon in the ink stick was not change after grinding in the ink stone. 4. The particle size of carbon and the pore size in the charcoal ink sticks of three country were larger than those of the lampblack ink sticks. 5. The ink solution of the charcoal ink sticks shows high roundness on Hanji while the ink solution of the lampblack ink sticks is spread readily to Hanji surface. 6. The change of whiteness in printing of the ink sticks is notable in thermal treatment.

The growth of AlN single crystals of large size and good quality is of prime importance for UV LEDs and power devices applications. However, the crystals having the size of more than 1 inch and high quality have not been reported in the world. In the PVT growth of AlN, the crystal morphology of as grown were important because the preferred orientation of growth of it was evaluated for growth rate increase. In the present study, the AlN single crystals grown by PVT process were evaluated by the side of the growth morphology. Optical microscopic characterization was carried out to observe the shape of the crystals and the growth facets. Furthermore the growth habit of it were discussed by observation of the surface of AlN crystals.
In July 2021, wilting symptoms were observed in adult and seedling hemp (Cannabis sativa L. cv. Cherry Blossom) plants grown in a greenhouse. As the disease progressed, yellowing and wilting symptoms on the leaves developed, resulting in whole plant death. In seedling plants, typical damping-off symptoms were observed. To identify the pathogen, the roots of diseased plants were sampled, surface sterilized, and cultured on potato dextrose agar (PDA) media. From the culture, 4 different fungal isolates were recovered and purely cultured. Each fungal isolate showed distinct growth shapes and color development on malt extract agar, oatmeal agar, sabouraud dextrose agar, and PDA media. Microscopic observation and molecular identification using ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacer sequencing identified them as 3 Fusarium spp. and 1 Thielaviopsis paradoxa. Additional sequencing of elongation factor 1-alpha and b-tubulin regions of 3 Fusarium spp. revealed that 2 of them are Fusarium solani, and the other one is Fusarium proliferatum. To examine which isolate can act as a causal agent of wilt disease of hemp, each isolate was tested for their pathogenicity. In the pathogenicity test, F. solani AMCF1 and AMCF2, and F. proliferatum AMCF3, but not T. paradoxa AMCF4, were able to cause wilting disease in hemp seedlings. Therefore, we report that F. solani AMCF1 and AMCF2, and F. proliferatum AMCF3 as causal agents of Fusarium wilt of hemp plants. To our knowledge, this is the first report of the wilt disease of C. sativa L. caused by Fusarium spp. in Korea.
