  • In cold forging, the elastic behavior of the die has a direct influence on the accuracy of the forging part. And the die dimension is continuously changed during the loading, unloading, and ejecting stage. In this paper, we evaluated the elastic deflections of cold forging die during loading, unloading, and ejecting stage. Uni-axial strain gauges are used to measure elastic strain of die during each forging stage. Strain gauges are attached on the surface of die. A commercial F.E.M code, DEFORM-2D$\^$TM/ is used to predict elastic strain of die. Two method of F.E.M. analysis are used to compare with measured and calculated elastic strain. One is to regard the die as rigid body over forging cycle. And then, the die sass is analyzed by loading the die with pressure from the forging part. The other is to regard the die as elastic body from forging cycle. The elastic strain of die is calculated and the die is elastically deformed at each strop. The calculated results under the elastic die assumption are well agreed with experimental data using strain gauges.

  • Nuclear power generation is very dangerous in occasion that skirt of structure by earthquake although it is high effective generation that can make a lot of energies with few raw material. when design, it must consider a lot of problems caused by an earthquake. The seismic analysis of the structure has been great concern in the engineering society with an effort to reduce the severe damages from an earthquake. So the earthquake resistant design is one of the crucial design procedures of a gate valve used in nuclear power generation. The gate valve which has the contact area between stem and bellows. Because of the contact area. The gate valve should be given high stress and frictional wear. In this thesis, Considering the gate valve which has some contact distance between stem and bellows. The gate valve which has some contact distance is analyzed by a commercial FEM code of Ansys and Then compared to the gate valve behavior which doesn't have contact distance.

  • Object recognition belongs to high-level processing that is one of the difficult and challenging tasks in computer vision. Digital photogrammetry based on the computer vision paradigm has begun to emerge in the middle of 1980s. However, the ultimate goal of digital photogrammetry - intelligent and autonomous processing of surface reconstruction - is not achieved yet. Object recognition requires a robust shape description about objects. However, most of the shape descriptors aim to apply 2D space for image data. Therefore, such descriptors have to be extended to deal with 3D data such as LiDAR(Light Detection and Ranging) data obtained from ALS(Airborne Laser Scanner) system. This paper introduces extension of chain code to 3D object space with hierarchical approach for segmenting point cloud data. The experiment demonstrates effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method for shape description and point cloud data segmentation. Geometric characteristics of various roof types are well described that will be eventually base for the object modeling. Segmentation accuracy of the simulated data was evaluated by measuring coordinates of the corners on the segmented patch boundaries. The overall RMSE(Root Mean Square Error) is equivalent to the average distance between points, i.e., GSD(Ground Sampling Distance).

  • Metal stamping is widely used in the mass-production process of the automobile industry. During the stamping process, air may be trapped between the draw die and the panel. The high pressure of trapped air induces imperfections on the panel surface and creates a situation where an extremely high tonnage of punch is required. To prevent these problems, many air ventilation holes are drilled through the draw die and the punch. The present work has developed a simplified mathematical formulation for computing the pressure of the air pocket based on the ideal gas law and isentropic relation. The pressure of the air pocket was compared to the results by the commercial CFD code, Fluent, and experiments. The present work also used the Bisection method to calculate the optimum cross-sectional area of the air ventilation holes, which did not make the pressure of the air pocket exceed the prescribed maximum value.

  • IGRINS (Immersion GRating INfrared Spectrometer) will provide the spectra with high-resolution and an instantaneous spectral coverage of H and K band in NIR region. Therefore, it is expected that the wide coverage of wavelength would make a production of an extensive NIR high-resolution spectra of standard stars as a prior program of IGRINS. As a counter part of these NIR spectra, we have planned to obtain the high-resolution spectra of those standard stars in optical band. These optical high-resolution spectra would give us an opportunity to produce the library of high-resolution stellar spectra covering from optical to NIR band, and to confirm the method to determine the stellar parameters and chemical abundances from the NIR high-resolution spectra. Before using the NIR high-resolution spectra, we have tested the method to determine the stellar parameters by comparing between the observed spectra and the synthetic spectra in optical band. In order to make the synthetic spectra, we have used the Kurucz ATLAS9 model grids and the SYNTH code described by Fiorella Castelli (http://wwwuser.oat.ts.astro.it/castelli/). For the cross-check against the parameters that would be derived from the NIR spectra, the stellar parameters such as effective temperature and surface gravity were determined using the optical spectra of the solar-like stars, as preliminary results.

  • There has recently been a great deal of interest in amorphous selenium for application of digital x-ray image sensor. The initial number of the electron-hole induced by interaction a-Se with x-ray photons and the collection efficiency to surface of generated charges are important parameters for x-ray sensitivity of the a-Se. Therefore, in this paper, we analyzed that thickness of a-Se film and electric field is affected on the initial number of electron-hole and the collection efficiency. The experimental value of x-ray induced charge about the various thickness and the electric field is compared with estimated absorbed energy through MCNP 4C code to analyze the mechanism x-ray induced signal of a-Se. The experimental results showed that the electric field depends on initial escape coefficient and the thickness depends on collection coefficient than escape efficient.

  • Spatial downscaling is often applied to coarse scale satellite products with high temporal resolution for environmental monitoring at a finer scale. An area-to-point regression kriging (ATPRK) algorithm is regarded as effective in that it combines regression modeling and residual correction with area-to-point kriging. However, an open source tool or package for ATPRK has not yet been developed. This paper describes the development and code organization of an R-based spatial downscaling tool, named R4ATPRK, for the implementation of ATPRK. R4ATPRK was developed using the R language and several R packages. A look-up table search and batch processing for computation of ATP kriging weights are employed to improve computational efficiency. An experiment on spatial downscaling of coarse scale land surface temperature products demonstrated that this tool could generate downscaling results in which overall variations in input coarse scale data were preserved and local details were also well captured. If computational efficiency can be further improved, and the tool is extended to include certain advanced procedures, R4ATPRK would be an effective tool for spatial downscaling of coarse scale satellite products.

  • This paper deals with both experimental and theoretical methods for performance prediction of asymmetric stater propulsion systems which have been used for the purpose of recovery of a propeller slipstream rotational energy due to a stator located in front of the propeller. Using the developed computer code based on the lifting surface theory, theortical investigation on the interaction between the stator and the propeller is provided in order to obtain general insight on the performance characteristics of the propulsion systems in uniform and non-uniform flow. Such theoretical calculations have end agreements with model Inset results. The asymmetric stator would give an efficiency gain of about 6% to the compound propulsor system compared with the single propeller system.

  • This paper deals with the procedure for developing a computer program which can predict the pressure fluctuation on the ship hull by solving the boundary value problem on the hull subject to the influence of the unsteady propeller and cavity motions. The program is applied to the solution of flow around a sphere under the influence of point sources simulating the propeller cavity, and then is compared with the analytic solution based on Butler's sphere theorem. The effect of free surface condition, either pressure-free or rigid-wall, upon the pressure distribution is studied. The computer code is also applied to a RO-RO ship, leading to the conclusion that the package may be useful for the analysis of excitation forces on the ship hull induced by the propeller in the design process.

  • KIGAM has installed a FLARE+ continuous geomagnetic observation system in 1998 in Daejeon of which the IAGA identification code is DZN. The coordinates of the absolute measurement plinth precisely determined by the PDGPS(Post-Processing Differential Global Positioning System) is (127-21-37.19E, 36-22-43.96N, 45.93 m) in WGS84 for the horizontal and from the geoid surface for the vertical. Periodically we have conducted the absolute geomagnetic measurement on the plinth above. We have processed the continuous time-variation 3-axis geomagnetic data measured on arbitrary sensors' coordinates in the observatory and absolute geomagnetic data together to get as the results the time-variation H(orizontal), D(eclination), Z(vertical down), F(scalar calculated from 3 components) and P(Proton Precession Magnetometer Data). We have compared our own data with those calculated from the 10th generation IGRF(International Geomagnetic Reference Field). All the measured data in the DZN Observatory can be acquired through the website http://geomag.kigam.re.kr.
