The East African Rift System(EARS) is known to be hosted epithermal Au-Ag deposits, and the best-known example is Main Ethiopian Rift Valley(MER) related to Quaternary bimodal volcanism. Large horst-graben system during rifting provides open space for emplacement of bimodal magmas and flow channel of geothermal fluids. In recent, large hydrothermally altered zones(Shala, Langano, and Allalobeda) and hot spring related to deeply circulating geothermal water have been increasing their importance due to new discoveries in MER and Danakil depression. The hot springs in Shala and Allalobeda occur as boiling pool and geyser on the surface, whereas some areas didn't observe them due to decreasing ground water table. The host rocks are altered to quartz, kaolinite, illite, smectite, and chlorite due to interaction with rising geothermal water. The hot springs in MER are neutral to slightly alkaline pH(7.88~8.83) and mostly classified into $HCO_3{^-}$ type geothermal water. They are strongly depleted in Au, and Ag, but show a higher Se concentration of up to 26.7 ppm. In contrast, siliceous altered rocks around hot springs are strongly enriched in Pb(up to 33 ppm, Shala), Zn(up to 313 ppm, Shala), Cu(up to 53.1 ppm, Demaegona), and Mn(up to 0.18 wt%t, Shala). In conclusion, anomalous Se in hot spring water, Pb, Zn, Cu, and Mn in siliceous altered rocks, and new discoveries in MER have been increasing potential for epithermal gold mineralization.
The 2017 Pohang Earthquakes occurred near a drill site in the Pohang Enhanced Geothermal System. Water injected for well stimulation was believed to have reactivated the buried near-critically stressed Miocene faults by the accumulation of the Quaternary tectonic strain. However, surface expressions of the Quaternary tectonic activity had not been reported near the epicenter of the earthquakes before the site construction. Unusual, large-scale water-escaped structures were identified 4 km away from the epicenter during a post-seismic investigation. The water-escaped structures comprise Miocene mudstones injected into overlying Pleistocene coastal sediments that formed during Marine Isotope Stage 5. This indicates the vulnerable state of the mudstones long after deposition, resulted from the combined effects of rapid tectonic uplift (before significant diagenesis) and the development of an aquifer at their unconformable interface of the mudstone. Based on the detailed field analysis and consideration of all possible endogenic triggers, we interpreted the structures to have been formed by elevated pore pressures in the mudstones (thixotropy), triggered by cyclic ground motion during the earthquakes. This interpretation is strengthened by the presence of faults 400 m from the study area, which cut unconsolidated coastal sediment deposited after Marine Isotope Stage 5. Geological context, including high rates of tectonic uplift in SE Korea, paleo-seismological research on Quaternary faults near the study area, and historical records of paleoearthquakes in SE Korea, also support the interpretation. Thus, epicenter and surrounding areas of the 2017 Pohang Earthquake are considered as a paleoseismologically active area, and the causative fault of the 2017 Pohang Earthquakes was expected to be nearly critical state.
Purpose: In this paper, we propose a design technique for the safety characterization grounding in the construction of the photovoltaic power generation complex which can be useful and useful as an alternative power energy source in our society. In other words, we will introduce the application of safety grounding for each application, which can improve and optimize the reliability of the internal grid from the cell module to the electric room in the photovoltaic power generation complex. Method: We analyze the earth resistivity of the soil in the solar power plant and use the computer program (CDEGS) to analyze the contact voltage and stratospheric voltage causing the electric shock, and propose the calculation and calculation method of the safety ground. In addition, we will discuss the importance of semi-permanent ground electrode selection in consideration of soil environment. Results: We could obtain the maximum and minimum value of ground resistivity for each of the three areas of the data measured by the Wenner 4 - electrode method. The measured data was substituted into the basic equation and calculated with a MATLAB computer program. That is, it can be determined that the thickness of the minimum resistance value is the most favorable soil environment for installing the ground electrode. Conclusion: Through this study, we propose a grounding system design method that can suppress the potential rise on the ground surface in the inner grid of solar power plant according to each case. However, the development of smart devices capable of accumulating big data and a monitoring system capable of real-time monitoring of seismic changes in earth resistances and grounding systems should be further studied.
The skin on the dorsum of the foot is a source of the reliable thin and sensory cutaneous free tissue transplantation with or without tendon, bone and joint. A composite flap with attached vascularized tendon grafts for the combined loss of skin and tendon on the dorsum of the hand and foot offers an immediate one stage solution to this problem. The flap provides a very durable innervated tissue cover for the heel of the foot and the dorsum of the hand and an osteocutaneous transfer combined with the second metatarsal. The major dorsalis pedis artery is constant in size, but the first dorsal metatarsal artery is variable in size and location. The dorsal surface of the foot receives sensory innervation through the superficial peroneal nerve and the first web through the deep peroneal nerve. Authors had performed 5 dorsalis pedis free flap transplantation in the foot and hand at Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Chonbuk National University Hospital from August 1993 through August 1997 and followed up for the period of between 19 and 67 months until March 1999. The results were as follows 1. 5 cases dorsalis pedis free flap transfer to the foot(4 cases) and the hand(1 case) were performed and the recipient was foot dorsum and heel 2 cases each and hand dorsum 1 case. 2 All of 5 cases(100%) were survived from free flap transfer and recipient artery was dorsalis pedis artery(2 cases), anterior tibial artery(1 case), posterior tibial artery(1 case) and ulnar artery(1 case) and recipient veins were 2 in number except in the hand. 3. Long term follow up of the exterior and maceration was good and sensory recovery was poor 4. Donor site was covered with full thickness skin graft obtained from one or both inguinal areas at postoperative 3rd week and skin graft was taken good and no morbidity was showed.
Our study was based on the long-term surveys with respect to the major reservoirs located in the Yeongsan and Seomjin river basins. A total of 45 survey sites have been surveyed four times a year from 2008 to 2017. We identified 166 zooplankton species, including 127 rotifers, 26 cladocerans, and 13 copepods. Mean population density and species number of small reservoirs were higher than those of mid and large reservoirs. Considering outliers exceeding the 90th percentile between species occupancy and mean abundance, 10 of 11 habitat generalists were rotifers, and Bosmina longirostris was the only cladoceran. Habitat specialist consisted of three species of rotifers and emerged from one to three survey sites. According to the modularity results, it was found that the survey sites covering the entire river basins were characterized into five groups, which was similar to the classification by maximum water surface areas(MWSA). The result of the eigenvector centrality showed that the size of MWSA had a greater impact on the similarity of zooplankton community structure between reservoirs than the difference in distance between reservoirs. In the case of survey points in near dam or estuary bank of Juam and Youngsan reservoirs, modularity class were separated from other internal survey points of those. Given that the zooplankton interactions may contribute to freshwater functions more than species diversity. These topological features provide new insight into studying zooplankton distribution patterns, their organization and impacts on freshwater-associated function.
Overpopulation has significantly increased the use of underground spaces in urban areas, and led to the developments of shallow-depth underground space. Due to unexpected rock fall, however, it is very necessary to understand and categorize the rock mass behaviors prior to the tunnel excavation, by which unnecessary casualties and economic loss could be prevented. In case of cave-in, special attention should be drawn since it occurs faster and greater in magnitude compared to rock fall and plastic deformation. Types of cave-in behavior are explained and categorized using seven parameters - Uniaxial Compressive Strength (UCS), Rock Quality Designation (RQD), joint surface condition, in-situ stress condition, ground water condition, earthquake & ground vibration, tunnel span. This study eventually introduces a new index called Cave-in Behavior Index (CBI) which explains the behavior of cave-in under given in-situ conditions expressed by the seven parameters. In order to assess the mutual interactions of the seven parameters and to evaluate the weighting factors for all the interactions, survey data of the experts' opinions and Rock Engineering Systems (RES) were used due to lack of field observations. CBI was applied to the tunnel site of Seoul Metro Line No. 9. UDEC analyses on 288 cases were done and occurrences of cave-in in every simulation were examined. Analyses on the results of 288 cases of simulations revealed that the average CBI for the cases when cave-in for different patterns of tunnel support was estimated by a logistic regression analysis.
Street Trees is an important object for urban environment improvement. Especially the height of the trees needs to be precisely measured as a factor that greatly influences the removal of air pollutants in the Urban Street Canyons. In this study, we extracted the height of the tree based on the stereo image using the precisely adjusted UAV Images of the target area. The adjustment of UAV image was applied photogrammetric SfM (Structure from motion) based on the collinear condition. We measured the height of the trees on the Street Canyon using stereoscopic vision on stereo plotting system. We also acquired the height of the building adjacent to the street trees and the average height of the road surface was calculated for accurate measurement of the height of each object. Through the visual analysis with the plotting operation system, it was possible to measure height of the tree and to calculate the relative height difference value with building quickly. This means that the height of buildings and trees can be calculated without making a 3D point cloud of UAV and it has the advantage of being able to utilize non-experts. In the future, further studies for semiautomatic/automation of this technique should be performed. The development and research of these technologies is expected to help to understand the current status of environmental policies and roadside trees in urban areas.
This study aimed at more precisely estimating the age of big old trees using dendrochronological method. Gesan-gun in Chungbuk (CBGS), Gurye-gun in Jeonnam (JNGR) and Uljin-gun in Gyeongbuk (GBUJ) were study areas and Zelkova serrata (ZS) and Pinus densiflora (PD) selected as protected trees therein were used as experimental tree species. The increment cores were extracted from 12, 8, and 6 ZSs and 10, 3, and 9 PDs in CBGS, JNGR, and GBUJ, respectively, using an increment borer (${\phi}5.2mm$). In order to clearly distinguish tree-ring boundary, the surface in the transverse section was cut for ZS using a sliding microtome and sanded for PD using a sand paper. Ring widths were measured in the resolution of 0.01 mm. Based on the measurement values, 203-year long (1813-2015) ZS local master tree-ring chronologies were successfully established and 175-year long (1841-2015) ZS local master tree-ring chronology for JNGR was also successfully established. In the case of PD, 154-, 175-, and 250-year long local master tree-ring chronologies for CBGS, JNGR, and GBUJ were successfully established, respectively. In the comparisons between local master tree-ring chronologies, they showed low t-values and Glks. According to the comparisons of the local master tree-ring chronologies with 50-year (1950~2000) average temperature and precipitation distribution maps, the annual variations of local master tree-ring chronologies seem to be determined by not temperature but precipitation. For such cross-dating therefore more local master tree-ring chronologies have to be established at the least based on the distribution map for precipitation.
In this study, the particle size distribution and pollutants content of sediments collected from different sites in the coastal area of Chungnam province were analyzed. The sediment samples were collected from different parking lots near beaches, harbors, museum and bridges. The particle size distribution analysis showed that the particle is generally $106-500{\mu}m$ and the effective size $D_{10}$ ranges from 40 to $60{\mu}m$ while the $D_{50}$ and $D_{60}$ ranges from 200 to $810{\mu}m$ and 235 to $1005{\mu}m$, respectively. For particle size $D_{10}$, there was no significant difference in all sites. However, for $D_{50}$ and $D_{60}$, the range is large. Sediment analysis implicates that as the particle size decreases, the pollutant content increases. This is because smaller particles have higher specific surface area resulting to have more adsorption capacity. Particles from tires, emission gas from vehicles and dust particles belongs to smaller particles. For particle sizes less than $63{\mu}m$, the analysis showed that as the particles become coarser, the concentration of VS, $COD_{cr}$, TN, and TP is at least 2 to 14 times higher. Cu and Pb were detected in all sites and shows a higher concentration with smaller particle size. Cu concentration are almost the same for all sites but in the case of Pb, the sediments from Sinjindo has higher concentration of up to 2 to 3 times as compared to those collected from the other sites. In the Beach site as well as in the Seocheon Ocean Museum, Cd was contained only in fine particles. However, in Daechon Harbor and Sinjindo Bridge sites, Cd was detected in all the sediment particle size.

We reported that acupuncture on $LI_4$ effected thermal change on $LI_4$ and ST25 area, And this study was performed on 100 healthy students to observe the effects of acupuncture at Hap-kok ($LI_4$) according to the meridian and qi-xue(氣血) phenomenon of oriental medicine's theory, The results was 1. In healthy man, mean skin temperatures of $LI_4$, ST25, CV12 areas(Control) were decreased, 2. In left $LI_4$ acupuncture group, the temperature of abdominal skin and $LI_4$ area had the tendency of increase, both right and left $LI_4$ acupuncture group, the temperature of abdominal skin and $LI_4$ area had not significant tendency. 3. In the research of thermal difference which eliminate a special region temperature, in the control group, the thermal changes had not significant tendency, in the left $LI_4$ acupuncture group and both right and left $LI_4$ acupuncture group, the thermal changes had tendency to be increased, 4. In the deviation analysis which mean of each group is excluded, in the control group, it turned out that deviation is regular for 10 minutes; in the left $LI_4$ acupuncture group and both right and left $LI_4$ acupuncture group, it turned out that deviation is more larger than the control group for 10 minutes. The above results indicates that Digital Thermography is a useful method to observe effects and changes by acupuncture stimulation on objective evaluation of phenomenon for the meridian system. Thus, acupuncture on $LI_4$ affects to thermal changes of the abdominal skin and $LI_4$ area, but exact examination of thermal changes on abdominal skin will have to be done.
