  • The electronic structures and bonding configuration of histidine on Ge(100) have been investigated with various sample treatments using core-level photoemission spectroscopy (CLPES). Interpretation of the Ge 3d, C 1s, N 1s, and O 1s core level spectra being included in these systems revealed that both the imino nitrogen in the imidazole ring and the carboxyl group in the glycine moiety concurrently participate in the adsorption of histidine on a Ge(100) surface at 380 K. Moreover, we could clearly confirm that the imino nitrogen with a free lone pair in the imidazole group adsorbs on Ge(100) more strongly than the carboxyl group in the glycine moiety by examining systems annealed at various temperatures.

  • Surface plasmons (SPs) are charge density oscillations that propagate along an interface between a dielectric and metal. In this paper, the electric field of SPs and the intereference of two SPs are observed by using Near-field Scanning Optical Microscope (NSOM). The excitation condition of SPs is changed as the optical tip approaches the metal surface, because the excitation condition of SPs is very sensitive to surface structures. To measure the microscope field of SPs, the distance between metal surface and optical tip must contain a specific interval.

  • The equilibrium or growth shape of ceramic materials is classified largely into two categories according to the thermodynamic conditions imposed. One is a polyhedral shape where the surface free energy is anisotropic, and the other a spherical shape where the surface free energy is isotropic. In the case of grains with a polyhedral shape of anisotropic surface free energy, socalled abnormal grain growth usually takes place due to a significant energy barrier for a growth unit to be attached to the crystal surface. In the case of grains with a spherical shape of isotropic surface free energy, however, normal grain growth with a uniform size distribution takes place. In this contribution, the state-of-the-art of our current understanding of the relationship between the crystal shape and the microstructure evolution during the sintering of ceramic materials in the presence of a liquid phase was discussed.

  • Pure Titanium and alloy have been widely used in dental implants and orthopedics due to their excellent mechanical properties, biocompatibility and corrosion resistance. However, due to the biologically inactive nature of Ti metal implants, it cannot bind to the living bone immediately after transplantation into the body. In order to improve the bone bonding ability of titanium implants, many attempts have been made to alter the structure, composition and chemical properties of titanium surfaces, including the deposition of bioactive coatings. The PEO method has the advantages of short experiment time and low cost. These advantages have attracted attention recently. Recently, many metal ions such as silicon, magnesium, zinc, strontium, and manganese have received attention in this field due to their impact on bone regeneration. Silicon (Si) in particular has been found to be essential for normal bone and cartilage growth and development. Zinc (Zn) plays very important roles in bone formation and immune system regulation and promotes bone metabolism and growth. Manganese (Mn) is an essential trace metal found in all tissues and is required for normal amino acid, lipid, protein and carbohydrate metabolism. The objective of this work was research on the corrosion behavior of Si, Zn and Mn-doped hydroxyapatite on the PEO-treated surface. Anodized alloys was prepared at 270V~300V voltage in the solution containig Zn, Si, and Mn ions. Ion release test was carried out using potentidynamic and AC impedance method in 0.9% NaCl solution. The surface characteristics of PEO treated Ti-6Al-4V alloy were investigated using XRD, FE-SEM, AFM and EDS.

  • Effects of HA and TiN coating on the electrochemical characteristics of Ti-6AI-4V alloys for bone plates were investigated using various test methods. Ti-6AI-4V alloys were fabricated by using a vacuum induction furnace and bone plates were made by laser cutting and polishing. HA was made of extracted tooth sintered and then tooth ash was used as HA coating target. The TiN and HA film coating on the surface were carried on using electron-beam physical vapor deposition (EB-PVD) method. The corrosion behaviors of the samples were examined through potentiodynamic method in 0.9% NaCI solutions at $36.5\pm$$1^{\circ}C$ and corrosion surface was observed using SEM and XPS. The surface roughness of TiN coated bone plates was lower than that of tooth ash coated plates. The structure of TiN coated layer showed the columnar structure and tooth ash coated layer showed equiaxed and anisotrophic structure. The corrosion potential of the TiN coated specimen is comparatively high. The active current density of TiN and tooth ash coated alloy showed the range of about $1.0xl0^{-5}$ $A\textrm{cm}^2$, whereas that of the non-coated alloy was$ 1.0xl0^{-4}$ $A\textrm{cm}^2$. The active current densities of HA and TiN coated bone plates were smaller than that of non-coated bone plates in 0.9% NaCl solution. The pitting potential of TiN and HA coated alloy is more drastically increased than that of the non-coated alloy. The pit number and pit size of TiN and HA coated alloy decreased in compared with those of non-coated alloy. For the coated samples, corrosion resistance increased in the order of TiN coated, tooth ash coated, and non-coated alloy.

  • The interactive display is providing various interaction modes to users through various ubiquitous computing technologies. These methods were studied for their interactions, but the limits that it is provided to only single user and the device usability were generated. In this paper, we propose a new type of spatial multi interaction interface that provide the various spatial touch interactive to multi users in the ambient display environment. Therefore, we generate the interaction surface so that a user can interact through the IR-LEDs Array Bar installed in the ceiling of the ambient display environment. At this time, a user can experience the various interactions through the spatial touch in an interaction surface. Consequently, this system offers the interactive display and interface method that the users can interact through natural hand movement without the portable devices.

  • Flexible display interface is capable of creating new user behaviors based on its characteristics of outstanding surface representation and display transformations such as bending, rolling, and folding. Thus, it is being discussed that the newly emerging flexible display interface can offer a different user experience that the previous flat display couldn't. However, as it is hard to find studies that identify the general attributes of user experience in the area of flexible display research, this study was intended to identify and label experience that users expect in a flexible display interface. For this purpose, this study first investigated literature reviews about user experience in previous digital media interface and flexible display interface and conducted interview research in order to reflect the users' perception, collecting 52 items that represent user experience. In addition, these items were used as measurements to deduct different types of user experience, and 308 interviewees participated in the interview research process. As a result, 10 types of user experience were developed from the results of the survey: functionality, understandability, pleasure, convenience, familiarity, stimulation, adaptability, collectivity, reality, and aesthetic.

  • The application of the coating supports the mechanical characteristics of the implant, and various materials and coatings are currently being used in the implant in a way to accelerate adhesion. Especially, plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) coating has been proposed continually with good surface treatment of titanium alloys. Also, the PEO process can incorporate Ca and P ions on the titanium surface through variables varied factor. PEO process for bioactive surface has carried out in electrolytes containing Ca and P ions. Natural bone is composed of mineral elements such as Mg, Si, Zn, Sr, and Mn, etc. Especially, Mg and Si of these elements play role in bone formation and growth after clinical implantation of bio-implants. In this study, corrosion charateristics of PEO-treated Ti-6Al-4V alloy in solution containing Si and Mg ions has been investigated using several experimental techniques. The PEO-treated surfaces were identified by X-ray diffraction, using a diffractometer (XRD, Philips X' pert PRO, Netherlands) with Cu $K{\alpha}$ radiation. The morphology was observed by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM, Hitachi 4800, Japan) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX, Oxford ISIS 310, England). The potentiodynamic polarization and AC impedance tests for electrochemical degradations were carried out in 0.9% NaCl solution at similar body temperature using a potentiostat with a scan rate of 1.67mV/s and potential range from -1500mV to + 2000mV.

  • The interfacial evaluation of surface modified Jute fiber/polypropylene (PP) composites before and after hydration was investigated using micromechanical test and dynamic contact angle measurement. The IFSS of alkaline and silane-treated Jute fiber/PP composites increased, whereas after hydration, the IFSS of the untreated, alkaline- and silane-treated Jute fibers/PP composites decreased due to swelled fibrils by water infiltration. The interfacial adhesion of silane treated fiber/PP composites was higher than alkaline-treated or the untreated cases. The surface energies of Jute fiber treated under various conditions were obtained using dynamic contact angle measurement. Especially after hydration, the thermodynamic work of adhesion was calculated by considering water interlayer, which indicated the stability of IFSS between silane treated Jute fiber and PP matrix showing better than others.

  • In case that an interface crack exists in an infinite two-dimensional elastic bimaterial, the crack surface is insulated under traction free and the uniform heat flow vertical to the crack from infinite boundary is given. Temperature and stress potentials are obtained by using complex variable approach to solve Hilbert problems. The results are used to obtain thermal stress intensity factors. Only mode I thermal stress intensity factor occurs in case of the homogeneous material. Otherwise, mode I and II thermal stress intensity factor is much smaller than one of mode II.
