  • Support vector machine is known to be the very useful statistical method in classification and nonlinear function estimation. In this paper we propose a monotone support vector regression (SVR) for the estimation of monotonically decreasing function. The proposed monotone SVR is applied to smooth the Kaplan-Meier estimate of survival function. Experimental results are then presented which indicate the performance of the proposed monotone SVR using survival functions obtained by exponential distribution.

  • As the energy and environmental problems are increasingly severe, researches about carbon dioxide emissions has aroused widespread concern. The accurate prediction of carbon dioxide emissions is essential for carbon emissions controlling. In this paper, we analyze the relationship between carbon dioxide emissions and influencing factors in a comprehensive way through correlation analysis and regression analysis, achieving the effective screening of key factors from 16 preliminary selected factors including GDP, total population, total energy consumption, power generation, steel production coal consumption, private owned automobile quantity, etc. Then fruit fly algorithm is used to optimize the parameters of least squares support vector machine. And the optimized model is used for prediction, overcoming the blindness of parameter selection in least squares support vector machine and maximizing the training speed and global searching ability accordingly. The results show that the prediction accuracy of carbon dioxide emissions is improved effectively. Besides, we conclude economic and environmental policy implications on the basis of analysis and calculation.

  • For the accelerated failure time (AFT) model a lot of effort has been devoted to develop effective estimation methods. AFT model assumes a linear relationship between the logarithm of event time and covariates. In this paper we propose a semiparametric support vector machine to consider situations where the functional form of the effect of one or more covariates is unknown. The proposed estimating equation can be computed by a quadratic programming and a linear equation. We study the effect of several covariates on a censored response variable with an unknown probability distribution. We also provide a generalized approximate cross-validation method for choosing the hyper-parameters which affect the performance of the proposed approach. The proposed method is evaluated through simulations using the artificial example.

  • We suggest a feature reduction method to classify mouse function data sets, which integrate several biological data sets represented as high dimensional vectors. To increase classification accuracy and decrease computational overhead, it is important to reduce the dimension of features. To do this, we employed Hybrid Huberized Support Vector Machine with kernels used for a kernel logistic regression method. When compared to support vector machine, this a pproach shows the better accuracy with useful features for each mouse function.

  • This article employs Support Vector Machine (SVM) for determination of fracture parameters critical stress intensity factor ($K^s_{Ic}$) and the critical crack tip opening displacement ($CTOD_c$) of concrete. SVM that is firmly based on the theory of statistical learning theory, uses regression technique by introducing ${\varepsilon}$-insensitive loss function has been adopted. The results are compared with a widely used Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model. Equations have been also developed for prediction of $K^s_{Ic}$ and $CTOD_c$. A sensitivity analysis has been also performed to investigate the importance of the input parameters. The results of this study show that the developed SVM is a robust model for determination of $K^s_{Ic}$ and $CTOD_c$ of concrete.

  • A quantitative structure activity relationship (QSAR) study is performed for modeling and prediction of oral bioavailabilities of 216 diverse set of drugs. After calculation and screening of molecular descriptors, linear and nonlinear models were developed by using multiple linear regression (MLR), artificial neural network (ANN), support vector machine (SVM) and random forest (RF) techniques. Comparison between statistical parameters of these models indicates the suitability of SVM over other models. The root mean square errors of SVM model were 5.933 and 4.934 for training and test sets, respectively. Robustness and reliability of the developed SVM model was evaluated by performing of leave many out cross validation test, which produces the statistic of $Q^2_{SVM}=0.603$ and SPRESS = 7.902. Moreover, the chemical applicability domains of model were determined via leverage approach. The results of this study revealed the applicability of QSAR approach by using SVM in prediction of oral bioavailability of drugs.

  • In this paper, the efficiency of five Machine Learning (ML) methods consisting of Deep Learning (DL), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest (RF), Decision Tree (DT), and Gradient Tree Booting (GTB) for regression and classification of the Ultimate Load Factor (ULF) of nonlinear inelastic steel frames is compared. For this purpose, a two-story, a six-story, and a twenty-story space frame are considered. An advanced nonlinear inelastic analysis is carried out for the steel frames to generate datasets for the training of the considered ML methods. In each dataset, the input variables are the geometric features of W-sections and the output variable is the ULF of the frame. The comparison between the five ML methods is made in terms of the mean-squared-error (MSE) for the regression models and the accuracy for the classification models, respectively. Moreover, the ULF distribution curve is calculated for each frame and the strength failure probability is estimated. It is found that the GTB method has the best efficiency in both regression and classification of ULF regardless of the number of training samples and the space frames considered.

  • In this paper, we develop models to design the airfoil using Multilayer Feed-forward Artificial Neural Network (MFANN) and Support Vector Regression model (SVR). The aerodynamic coefficients corresponding to series of airfoil are stored in a database along with the airfoil coordinates. A neural network is created with aerodynamic coefficient as input to produce the airfoil coordinates as output. The performance of the models have been evaluated. The results show that the SVR model yields the lowest prediction error.
