  • Dynamic rheological properties of honey samples with 3 different moisture contents (17.2, 19.0, and 21.0%) were evaluated at various low temperatures (-15, -10, -5, and $0^{\circ}C$) using a controlled stress rheometer. The honey samples displayed a liquid-like behavior, with loss modulus (G") predominating over storage modulus (G') (G">>G'), showing the high dependence on frequency ($\omega$). The magnitudes of G' and G" decreased with an increase in temperature and water content while a predominant increase of G' was noticed at $-15^{\circ}C$. The time-temperature superposition (TTS) principle was applied to bring G" values for honeys at various temperatures together into a master curve. The G" over the temperature range of -15 to $0^{\circ}C$ obeyed the Arrhenius relationship with a high determination coefficient ($R^2=0.98-0.99$). Activation energy value (Ea=112.4 kJ/mol) of honey with a moisture content of 17.2% was higher than those (Ea=98.8-101.1 kJ/mol) of other honey samples with higher moisture contents.

  • Determination of the number of modes to be included in the mode superposition method(MSM) is very important and difficult. Mode acceleration method(MAM) is recommended recently with the intention to overcome the problem. But the solution of the MAM is complex and complicate in frequency domain analysis. In this paper, advanced mode acceleration method(AMAM) is formulated and examined. The results from example analyses show that AMAM is a simple, accurate and reliable method compared with the MSM and the MAM.

  • Acoustic radiation efficiency is a crucial factor to estimate Underwater Radiated Noise (URN) of ships accurately. This paper describes a numerical method to analyse acoustic radiation efficiency of one side-wetted rectangular Mindlin plate with simply supported boundaries excited by a harmonic point force. Transverse displacements of plate and acoustic radiation pressures are evaluated by the mode superposition method. The acoustic radiation efficiencies analyzed by both Mindlin and thin plate theories show little differences at monopole and corner modes of low frequency regions but relatively large differences at edge and critical modes of high frequency regions. Especially, the critical frequency with the highest acoustic radiation efficiency evaluated by the Mindlin plate theory is higher than that of thin plate theory. In addition, the acoustic loading effect of fluid also increases bending wave-number of plate and its critical frequency. Finally, the acoustic radiation characteristics of plates with different aspect ratios and thicknesses through numerical analyses are investigated and discussed.

  • This paper presents the method for structure borne noise analysis of a flexible body in multibody system. The proposed method is the superposition method using the flexible multibody dynamic analysis and the finite element one. This method is executed in 3 steps. In the 1st step, time dependent quantities such as dynamic loads, modal coordinates and gross body motion of the flexible body are calculated through a flexible multibody dynamic analysis. And frequency response functions of those time dependent quantities are computed through Fourier transforms. In the 2nd step, acoustic pressure coefficients are obtained through structure-acoustic coupling analyses by the finite element method. In the final step, frequency responses of acoustic pressure at the acoustic nodes are recovered through linear superposition of frequency response functions with acoustic pressure coefficients. The accuracy of the proposed method is verified in the numerical example of a simple car model.

  • This paper investigates the dynamics of a HDD spindle system due to the change of FDBs. Flying height of the HDD spindle system is determined through the static analysis of the FDBs, and the stiffness and damping coefficients are calculated through the dynamic analysis of the FDBs. Free vibration characteristics and shock response of the HDD spindle system are analyzed by using the finite element method and the mode superposition method. Experimental modal test is also performed to verify the accuracy of the proposed method. This research shows that the stiffness coefficients of journal heating mostly affect the rocking frequencies because their magnitude are within the range of the stiffness of supporting structure. It also shows that the damping coefficients of thrust bearing mostly affect the axial frequency because the stiffness of thrust bearing is much smaller that that of supporting structure.
