Overall experiments were planned by central composite design, and results were analyzed by response surface methodology (RSM) to determine effects of three independent variables, temperature ($X_{1}$), extraction time ($X_{3}$), and pressure ($X_{3}$), on yield of sesame oil extract (Y). Regression equation model optimized by response surface analysis was: Y (sesame oil) = $-3.89+0.07X_{1}+0.03X_{2}+0.0006X_{3}-0.0007X_{1}^{2}-0.0002X_{2}X_{1}-0.00008X_{2}^{2}+0.000004X_{3}X_{1}+0.0000009X_{3}X_{2}-0.00000009X_{3}^{2}$. According to RSM analysis, optimum extracting conditions of temperature, time, and pressure were $45.89^{\circ}C$, 131.89 min, and 34228.41 kPa, respectively, and statistical maximum yield of sesame oil was 96.27%. Fatty acid composition of sesame oil showed sesame oil extracted by Supereritical Fluid $CO_{2}$ contained lower levels of palmitic, stcaric, and oleic acids and higher levels or palmitoleic and linoleic acids than commercial sesame oil. Commercial and extracted sesame oils were analyzed by electronic nose composed of 12 different metal oxide sensors. Obtained data were interpreted by statistical method of MANOVA. Sensitivities of sensors from electronic nose were analysed by principal component analysis. Proportion of first principal component was 99.92%. All sesame oils showed different odors (p < 0.05).

The high-pressure phase behavior of a polycaprolactone (Mw=56,145 g/mol, polydispersity 1.2), dichloromethane, and carbon dioxide ternary system was measured using a variable-volume view cell. The experimental temperatures and pressures ranged from 313.15 K to 353.15 K and up to 300 bar as functions of the $CO_2$/dichloromethane mass ratio and temperature, at poly(D-lactic acid) weight fractions of 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0%. The correlation results were obtained from the hybrid equation of state (Peng-Robinson equation of state + SAFT equation of state) for the $CO_2$-polymer system using the van der Waals one-fluid mixing rule. The three binary interaction parameters were optimized by the simplex method algorithm.
Essential oils from Fennel fruit(Foeniculum vulgare Mill), Olibanum resin(Boswellia carteii Birew) and Needl Juniperus stem(Juniperus rigida Sieb.) were extracted by a supercritical fluid extraction system(SFE) and biological activity of each essential oils were observed. SFE technique was applied for the isolation and purification of nonpolar biologically active essential oils from each samples. The quantitative analysis of essential oils was carried out by gas chromatography-mass spectrometer(GC/MS). About 60% of the growth of AGS and A549 cells were inhibited by adding 1.0g/l of the crude essential oils and below 40% was observed by the control. Cytotoxicity on human normal lung cell(HEL299) was scored as $15{\sim}18%$ for the crude essential oils and 12% for control, respectively. It meant that the essential oils were more effective than the control in anti-mutagenecity tested by CHO V79 cells. The effect of the essential oils on the growth of nerve cells, PC12 was observed as follows: The viable cell density was about two times higher than control.
In this study, computer simulation works have been performed for the capture process of the $CO_2$ and $H_{2}S$ gases contained in the effluent stream using methanol aqueous solution. In order to increase the solubilities of the $CO_2$ and $H_{2}S$ in the methanol aqueous stream, the operating pressure of the absorber was raised to 30 bar and the feeding temperature of the solvent was lowered to $-20^{\circ}C$ by using refrigeration cycle. NRTL liquid activity coefficient model was used to estimate the liquid phase nonidealities for methanol and water. Soave-Redlich-Kwong equation of state was used for the vapor phase nonidealities. Henry's law option was also used to calculate the solubilities of the supercritical noncondensible gases into the methanol aqueous solvent stream.

Continuous thermodynamics has been applied for modeling of phase equilibria in multicomponent mixtures, to avoid disadvantages of the pseudo-component and key-component method. In this paper continuous thermodynamic relations formulated by using the Pate-Teja equation of state were adopted for calculations of phase equilibria in natural gas mixtures, crude oil mixtures and mixtures extracted by supercritical $CO_2$ fluids. Calculations of phase equilibria were performed by two procedures ; a moment method coupled with the beta distribution function and a quadrature method combined with Gaussian-Legendre polynomials. Calculated results were compared with experimental data. It was showed that continuous thermodynamic frameworks considered in this paper were well-matched to experimental data.
Fine particles of water-soluble pharmaceuticals were prepared using a new micronization method, Carbon Dioxide Assisted Nebulization in a Bubble Dryer(CAN-BD). The process utilized mixtures of CO$_2$ in aqueous solution at supercritical conditions to form an emulsion. The aerosols were dried with pre-heated nitrogen, and the drying chamber was operated at near atmospheric pressure. The dry particles were collected on membrane filter at the bottom of the drying chamber. Several processing parameters such as flow rate, temperature, pressure, solid concentration and processing scale were accessed using NaCl, human serum albumin, and granulocyte-colony stimulating factor as model pharmaceuticals. To evaluate the $CO_2$ storage capacity for the reservoir rock, the laboratory scale technique to measure the amount of $scCO_2$, replacing pore water of the reservior rock after the $CO_2$ injection was developed in this study. Laboratory experiments were performed to measure the $scCO_2$ displacement efficiency of the conglomerate and the sandstone in Janggi basin, which are classified as available $CO_2$ storage rocks in Korea. The high pressurized stainless steel cell containing two different walls was designed and undisturbed rock cores acquired from the deep drilling site around Janggi basin were used for the experiments. From the lab experiments, the average $scCO_2$ displacement efficiency of the conglomerate and the sandstone in Janggi basin was measured at 31.2% and 14.4%, respectively, which can be used to evaluate the feasibility of the Janggi basin as a $scCO_2$ storage site in Korea. Assuming that the effective radius of the $CO_2$ storage formations is 250 m and the average thickness of the conglomerate and the sandstone formation under 800 m in depth is 50 m each (from data of the drilling profile and the geophysical survey), the $scCO_2$ storage capacity of the reservoir rocks around the probable $scCO_2$ injection site in Janggi basin was calculated at 264,592 metric ton, demonstrating that the conglomerate and the sandstone formations in Janggi basin have a great potential for use as a pilot scale test site for the $CO_2$ storage in Korea.

$CO_2$ storage site for small-scale demonstration has been investigated in Yeongil Bay, Pohang, SE Korea, using seismic survey and exploration well data. We found a potential storage formation consisting mainly of conglomerate and sandstone. The storage formation unconformably overlies volcanic basement rocks that are located in a depth from 650 to 950 m (below sea level). The depth of the storage formation is suitable for injecting supercritical $CO_2$ in the Pohang Basin. The average thickness of the storage formation is about 123 m, which possibly provides sufficient capacity at the level of small-scale storage demonstration. The overlying fine-grained deposits consist mainly of marine hemipelagic muds and interlayered turbidite sands. The overlying formation is considered as a good seal rock that is over 600 m thick and widely distributed in the onshore and offshore portions of the basin. NNE-trending faults found in the study area likely formed at basement level, probably not continue to seafloor. Such faults are interpreted as syndepositional faults involved to the basin initiation. This study reveals that the offshore area of the Pohang Basin contains deep geological formations suitable for small-scale $CO_2$ storage demonstration.
