In this paper, we propose an efficient WBC 14-Diff classification which performs using the WBC-ResNet-152, a type of CNN model. The main point of view is to use Super-pixel for the segmentation of the image of WBC, and to use ResNet for the classification of WBC. A total of 136,164 blood image samples (224x224) were grouped for image segmentation, training, training verification, and final test performance analysis. Image segmentation using super-pixels have different number of images for each classes, so weighted average was applied and therefore image segmentation error was low at 7.23%. Using the training data-set for training 50 times, and using soft-max classifier, TPR average of 80.3% for the training set of 8,827 images was achieved. Based on this, using verification data-set of 21,437 images, 14-Diff classification TPR average of normal WBCs were at 93.4% and TPR average of abnormal WBCs were at 83.3%. The result and methodology of this research demonstrates the usefulness of artificial intelligence technology in the blood cell image classification field. WBC-ResNet-152 based morphology approach is shown to be meaningful and worthwhile method. And based on stored medical data, in-depth diagnosis and early detection of curable diseases is expected to improve the quality of treatment.

In recent years, Super-pixels have become very popular for use in computer vision applications. Super-pixel algorithm transforms pixels into perceptually feasible regions to reduce stiff features of grid pixel. In particular, super-pixels are useful to depth estimation, skeleton works, body labeling, and feature localization, etc. But, it is not easy to generate a good super-pixel partition for doing these tasks. Especially, super-pixels do not satisfy more meaningful features in view of the gestalt aspects such as non-sum, continuation, closure, perceptual constancy. In this paper, we suggest an advanced algorithm which combines simple linear iterative clustering with fuzzy clustering concepts. Simple linear iterative clustering technique has high adherence to image boundaries, speed, memory efficient than conventional methods. But, it does not suggest good compact and regular property to the super-pixel shapes in context of gestalt aspects. Fuzzy similarity measures provide a reasonable graph in view of bounded size and few neighbors. Thus, more compact and regular pixels are obtained, and can extract locally relevant features. Simulation shows that fuzzy similarity based super-pixel building represents natural features as the manner in which humans decompose images.
Image segmentation is widely used in the pre-processing stage of image analysis and, therefore, the accuracy of image segmentation is important for performance of an image-based analysis system. An efficient image segmentation method is proposed, including a filtering process for super-pixels, improved saliency map information, and a merge process. The proposed algorithm removes areas that are not equal or of small size based on comparison of the area of smoothed superpixels in order to maintain generation of a similar size super pixel area. In addition, application of a bilateral filter to an existing saliency map that represents human visual attention allows improvement of separation between objects and background. Finally, a segmented result is obtained based on the suggested merging process without any prior knowledge or information. Performance of the proposed algorithm is verified experimentally.

Recently UAV(unmanned aerial vehicle) is frequently used not only for military purpose but also for civil purpose. UAV automatically navigates following the coordinates input in advance using GPS information. However it is impossible when GPS cannot be received because of jamming or external interference. In order to solve this problem, we propose a real-time segmentation and classification algorithm for the specific regions from UAV image in this paper. We use the super-pixels algorithm using graph-based image segmentation as a pre-processing stage for the feature extraction. We choose the most ideal model by analyzing various color models and mixture color models. Also, we use support vector machine for classification, which is one of the machine learning algorithms and can use small quantity of training data. 18 color and texture feature vectors are extracted from the UAV image, then 3 classes of regions; river, vinyl house, rice filed are classified in real-time through training and prediction processes.
In immersive media, the most important factor that provides immersion is depth information. Therefore, it is essential to obtain high quality depth information in order to produce high quality immersive media. In this paper we propose an algorithm to improve depth map, considering the segmentation of images and the relationship between multiple views in multi-view systems. The proposed algorithm uses a super-pixel segmentation technique to divide the depth map of the reference view into several segments, and project each segment into adjacent view. Subsequently, the depth map of the adjacent view is improved using plane estimation using the information of the projected segment, and then reversed to the reference view. This process is repeated for several adjacent views to improve the reference depth map by updating the values of the improved adjacent views and the initial depth map of the reference view. Through simulation, the proposed algorithm is shown to surpass the conventional algorithm subjectively and objectively.

We propose a learning-based image segmentation algorithm. Starting from super-pixels, our method learns the probability of merging two regions based on the ground truth made by humans. The learned information is used in determining whether the two regions should be merged or not in a segmentation stage. Unlike exiting learning-based algorithms, we use both local and object information. The local information represents features computed from super-pixels and the object information represent high level information available only in the learning process. The object information is considered as privileged information, and we can use a framework that utilize the privileged information such as SVM+. In experiments on the Berkeley Segmentation Dataset and Benchmark (BSDS 500) and PASCAL Visual Object Classes Challenge (VOC 2012) data set, out model exhibited the best performance with a relatively small training data set and also showed competitive results with a sufficiently large training data set.

This paper proposes a robust technique of image segmentation, which can be obtained if the topological persistence of each connected component is used as the feature vector for the graph-based image segmentation. The topological persistence of the components, which are obtained from the super-level set of the image, is computed from the morse function which is associated with the gray-level or color value of each pixel of the image. The procedure for the components to be born and be merged with the other components is presented in terms of zero-dimensional homology group. Extensive experiments are conducted with a variety of images to show the more correct image segmentation can be obtained by merging the components of small persistence into the adjacent components of large persistence.

While non-predefined object segmentation (NDOS) distinguishes an arbitrary self-assumed object from its background, predefined object segmentation (DOS) pre-specifies the target object. In this paper, a new and novel method to segment predefined objects is presented, by globally optimizing an orientation-based objective function that measures the fitness of the object boundary, in a discretized parameter space. A specific object is explicitly described by normalized discrete sets of boundary points and corresponding normal vectors with respect to its plane shape. The orientation factor provides robust distinctness for target objects. By considering the order of transformation elements, and their dependency on the derived over-segmentation outcome, the domain of translations and scales is efficiently discretized. A branch and bound algorithm is used to determine the transformation parameters of a shape model corresponding to a target object in an image. The results tested on the PASCAL dataset show a considerable achievement in solving complex backgrounds and unclear boundary images.

This paper proposes the effective edge selection algorithm for the rapid processing time and low memory usage of efficient graph-based image segmentation on mobile device. The graph-based image segmentation algorithm is to extract objects from a single image. The objects are consisting of graph edges, which are created by information of each image's pixel. The edge of graph is created by the difference of color intensity between the pixel and neighborhood pixels. The object regions are found by connecting the edges, based on color intensity and threshold value. Therefore, the number of edges decides on the processing time and amount of memory usage of graph-based image segmentation. Comparing to personal computer, the mobile device has many limitations such as processor speed and amount of memory. Additionally, the response time of application is an issue of mobile device programming. The image processing on mobile device should offer the reasonable response time, so that, the image segmentation processing on mobile should provide with the rapid processing time and low memory usage. In this paper, we demonstrate the performance of the effective edge selection algorithm, which effectively controls the edges of graph for the rapid processing time and low memory usage of graph-based image segmentation on mobile device.

Haze is a factor that degrades the performance of various image processing algorithms, such as those for detection, tracking, and recognition using an electro-optical sensor. For robust operation of an electro-optical sensor-based unmanned system used outdoors, an algorithm capable of effectively removing haze is needed. As a haze removal method using a single electro-optical sensor, the dark channel prior using statistical properties of the electro-optical sensor is most widely known. Previous methods used a square filter in the process of obtaining a transmission using the dark channel prior. When a square filter is used, the effect of removing haze becomes smaller as the size of the filter becomes larger. When the size of the filter becomes excessively small, over-saturation occurs, and color information in the image is lost. Since the size of the filter greatly affects the performance of the algorithm, a relatively large filter is generally used, or a small filter is used so that no over-saturation occurs, depending on the image. In this paper, we propose an improved haze removal method using color image segmentation. The parameters of the color image segmentation are automatically set according to the information complexity of the image, and the over-saturation phenomenon does not occur by estimating the amount of transmission based on the parameters.
