  • The compressive strength of concrete varies depending on various factors. Among them, based on the curing temperature, the KCS 14 20 10 Standard Specification for General Concrete calculates the nominal strength by applying the temperature correction value (Tn) based on the compressive strength of the standard cured concrete at 20±2℃ when designing the formulation strength. However, Tn is a correction value that considers only the temperature, and the correction of strength difference due to heat of hydration is not applied. Therefore, in this study, one-component and two-component concrete are mixed in the summer, structural concrete are manufactured, standard concrete specimen are manufactured, and coring is performed on the central and boundary parts of the structural concrete to calculate the correction value applied to the nominal strength by comparing the compressive strength of standard cured concrete on the 28th day of curing and the compressive strength of structural concrete on the 91st day of curing.

The Effects of Flow and Land Use Types on Seasonal Variations of Water Quality in Streams (하천 수질의 계절적 변화에 미치는 유량과 토지이용의 영향)

  • We examined the effects of land cover types on water quality based on data surveyed during April 2007-February 2008 from 178 sites of 111 streams in Paldang watershed. BOD, COD, DO, SS, T-N, and T-P concentrations of spring and summer were strongly and significantly associated with the first principal component of the proportions of eight land cover types, and differences between all parameter's concentration except SS and T-N of spring and summer were insignificantly related with them. SS and T-N concentration of summer were significantly correlated with increase and decrease of stream flow. T-P concentration of spring was the most significantly related with the second principal component which was positively correlated with the proportions of residential and forest land covers and was negatively correlated with the proportions of paddy and grass land covers. It is necessary to manage land use of the upper watershed and stream flow for improvement in water quality because seasonal variations of each water quality parameter are dependent upon land cover and flow variations.

  • It is necessary to effective temperature and humidity management for normal growth of crops in protected cultivation during the summer season. Because the highest temperature of vinyl house inhibit normal growth of crop and decrease of crop production or marketability in summer season. Finally, the vinyl house was impossible some crop cultivation in summer season. This study was conducted to investigate effective and economic method for temperature drop in protected cultivation during the summer season. 1. In medium size vinyl house(5$\times$13$\times$3m), the effect of temperature drop appeared the highest in treatment of shading with aluminium thermal curtain+fog system+ventilation with fan. The effect of temperature drop was about 1$0^{\circ}C$ lower than outer air temperature and about 4$^{\circ}C$ lower than outer soil temperature. 2. The effect of temperature drop according to shading with aluminium thermal curtain+fog system+ventilation with fan during the highest temperature of summer season Jul., 20 to Aug., 21 was appeared about 8$^{\circ}C$ lower than outdoor above ground(1.2m) and about 7$^{\circ}C$ lower than outdoor surface ground. 3. The changes of solar radiation during a day according to shading with aluminium thermal curtain+ventilation with fan and shading with black curtain+ventilation with fan treatments was appeared respectively about 29.3%, 32.5% of outdoor solar radiation a fine day and respectively about 27.4%, 31.8% of outdoor solar radiation a cloudy day.

  • The trend of the concept for modern medicine is gradually forwarding to preventive medicine from therapeutic medical science. One of the most remarkable characteristics of oriental medicine is that it attaches greater importance to preventive medicine scientifically. The basic theory of oriental medicine principally takes roots in Huang Di Nei Jing and it is Si Qi Tian Shen Da Lun that is deep-rooted in the principle of "growing life" grounded in theory of unity of heaven and man of oriental medicine. Therefore having translated annotation of 〈Si Qi Tian Shen Da Lun·Huang Di Nei Jing Su Wen〉 which is quoted frequently and using it for appendix and comparing each views of annotators, I would like to state the results of dissertation as below. 1. Si Qi Tian Shen of title of the paper means that it keeps our health and prevent diseases in advance to control our mind and rhythm of life to the change of Yin and Yang - that is, the grower Yin, the looser Yang - following four seasons of nature environment. 2. The summary of this dissertation is that spring means things newly sprout from old ones, things become profuse, beautiful and brilliant in the summer. Autumn stands for things is harvested and allocated evenly and finally things is closed and stored. That is, in the spring and summer. If one break this principle of growth, diseases are followed after this. Therefore an excellent physician should handle diseases before they are attacked not remedy them after outbreak of diseases. It is said that a sage governs the nation before it is put into confusion. 3. These four terms standing for each season describe definitely and realistically rural life in the agricultural environment, in other words, spouting in spring, growing in summer, harvesting in autumn, storing in winter. Going with the current of the times, they have developed to theoretical concept of getting, growth, harvest, store so that implied the principle of growth for four seasons. 4. It means in a concrete way "Yang would grow in the spring and summer and Yin would grow in autumn and winter" as follow. That is, when the day is long, things act energetically and emit the warmth of life and expand the vigor of growth. On the other hand, when the night is long, things lessen their activity to protect the warmth of life and to preserve the sprit of growth. In addition, we should be concerned about the work outward and try to concretely fulfill plan of business in spring and summer. It is in autumn and winter when we should grow Yin. It does not mean that we simply grow cold yin in our body to build Yin. But according to annotators, for example, Wang Bing stated that we need to make things be cool in spring and summer, and be warm in autumn and winter for improvement. Zhang Jie Bin noted that things should not be cold in spring and summer and not be too hot to improve in autumn and winter. Those principles theorized to unify physiological status into the principle of changing of Yang and Yin in the nature and enriched the contents. In these principles, no problems are not found logically somewhat.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide fundamental cooling design data for the large public enclosures as gymnasium. This study executed indoor thermal environment verification of the existing gymnasium by measuring temperature distribution with cooling the space in summer. Cooling loads from human body was not considered. We examined various indoor thermal environment factors of the large enclosed space in this study which include vertical and horizontal temperature distribution, supply and return air flow feature, thermal comfort environment feature, amount of ventilation and etc.

Region-Scaled Soil Erosion Assessment using USLE and WEPP in Korea

  • During the summer season, more than half of the annual precipitation in Korea occurs during the summer season due to the geographical location in the Asian monsoon belt. So, this causes severe soil erosion from croplands, which is directly linked to the deterioration of crop/land productivity and surface water quality. Therefore, much attention has been given to develop accurate estimation tools of soil erosion. The aim of this study is to assess the performance of using the empirical Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) and the physical-based model of the Water Erosion Prediction Project (WEPP) to quantify eroded amount of soil from agricultural fields. Input data files, including climate, soil, slope, and cropping management, were modified to fit into Korean conditions. Chuncheon (forest) and Jeonju (level-plain) were selected as two Korean cities with different topographic characteristics for model analysis. The results of this current study indicated that better soil erosion prediction can be achieved using the WEPP model since it has better power to illustrate a higher degree of spatial variability than USLE in topography, precipitation, soils, and crop management practices. These present findings are expected to contribute to the development of the environmental assessment program as well as the conservation of the agricultural environment in Korea.
