  • The electrodeposition of indium onto a copper electrode from an aqueous sulfate solution containing $In^{3+}$ was studied by means of cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry. Reduction and oxidation of indium on copper were investigated by using cyclic voltammograms at different negative limiting potentials and at different scan rates in cumulative cycles. Cyclic voltammograms indicated that reduction and oxidation processes of indium could involve various reactions. Chronoamperometry was carried out to analyze the nucleation mechanism of indium in the early stage of indium electrodeposition. The non-dimensional plot of the current transients at different potentials showed that the shape of the plot depended on the applied potential. The nucleation of indium at potential step of -0.6~-0.8 V was close to progressive nucleation limited by diffusion. However the non-dimensional plot of current transients for the indium nucleation showed different behaviors from theoretical curves at the potential step lower than -0.8 V.

  • Electrochemical behaviors od chromium electrodeposition from 0.05M chromium (III) sulface complexes in aqueous solutions using sodium formate-glycine mixtures as a complexing agent were studied. In the cathodic current-potential cures, it is found that the intial limiting current of Cr(III) is proportional to square root of scan rate and activiation energy from Arrhenius plot is s obtained 3.05Kcal/mol. From this results, the reaction is considered, Cr3++e longrightarrow Cr2+, which is controlled diffusion of Cr (III). It is also found that the chromium is deposited when the potential reaches to hydrogen evolution potential. Effects of NaSCN as a catalyser in the electrolyte were investigated NCS- anion seems to react strongly by specific absorption at the inner HelmholtZ layer, so that, it is considered to suppress the electrodeposition reaction reaction for chromjum, and also it is considered multipe-bridge such as Cr(III)-NCS---M(M;cathode).

  • An attempt was carried out to purify the cell components of Bordetella bronchiseptica by the mild procedures. From the supernatant of sonic treated colls, the K-agglutinogen, hemagglutinogen and skin necrotizing factor were separated by a successive use of DEAE-cellulose column chromatography and ammonium sulfate precipitation. The specific activity of purified K-agglutinogen was demonstrated by a gel-diffusion test and was also found to be free from other biologically active substances of B. bronchiseptica: namely hemagglutinin, skin-necrotizing factor and O-antigen.

  • a mathematical model is presented to describe the current distribution on a rotaing disk electrode under the galvanostatic pulse conlitions. A numerical technique by finite difference method to the transient convective diffusion equation, coordinate transformation and separation of variables to Laplace equation, and an iterative algorithm to solve the above equations simtltaneously with approximate boundary conditions were developed. An experimental investigated based on copper deposition in a copper sulfate-sulfuric acid system was performed and satisfactory agreement was obtained between expermental and theoretical current distribution. The current distribution of copper deposition is secondary current distribution within the experimental conditions. Dimensionless variables, N and J as well as Wagner number were used to determine the criteria for the uniformity of current distribution.

  • The reaction of sulfur dioxide with cupric oxide supported on zeolite was investigated over a temperature range of $250{\sim}450^{{\circ}C$. After the completion of the $SO_2$ removal reaction, the cupric sulfate produced was regenerated to copper by hydrogen or LPG. The experimental results showed that the removal efficiency of $SO_2$ was improved with temperature increase and with $SO_2$ inlet concentration decrease. The reaction of $SO_2$ with CuO/Zeolite was well explained by the shrinking unreacted core model using first order chemical reaction control and diffusion control. THe reaction rate constant and the effective diffusivity were respectively as follows: 1k (cm/s) = 2.519 exp[-10991 (cal/mol)/RT] $De(cm^2/s) = 2.06 \times 10^{-5} exp[-8380 (cal/mol)/RT]$

  • Crystals of a bacterial glutathione S-transferase(pGST) from pseudomonas sp. DJ 77 have been grown by hanging drop method of vapour diffusion from ammonium sulfate solution. The low concentration of polyethylene glycol 400 as additive were found to be essential for the reproducible growth of large single crystal of pGST. (omitted)

  • It is well known that compositionally modulated Cu-Ni alloy can be produced by an electrochemical method in Ni sulfate solution containing trace amount of Cu. a mathematical model is presented to describe the current distribution and weight percent of Cu in Ni layer on the rotating disk electrode. The model includes convective-diffusion equation, the Laplace's equation and various overpotentials, and is solved numerically. The thickness of Cu layer is almost uniform whereas the thickness of Ni layer as well as the Ni/Cu weight ratio are increased approaching to the edge of the disk. These results agree well with the experimental values. The ohmic potential drop is suggested as a major cause of a nonuniformity in Ni layer. The optimum plating condition for the fabrication of susperlattice is proposed based on the results of this study.

  • A leaching kinetics was conducted for the purpose of recovery of praseodymium in sulfuric acid ($H_2SO_4$) from REE slag concentrated by the smelting reduction process in an arc furnace as a reactant. The concentration of $H_2SO_4$ was fixed at an excess ratio under the condition of slurry density of 1.500 g slag/L, 0.3 mol $H_2SO_4$, and the effect of temperatures was investigated under the condition of 30 to $80^{\circ}C$. As a result, praseodymium oxide ($Pr_6O_{11}$) existing in the slag was completely converted into praseodymium sulfate ($Pr_2(SO_4)_3{\cdot}8H_2O$) after the leaching of 5 h. On the basis of the shrinking core model with a shape of sphere, the first leaching reaction was determined by chemical reaction mechanism. Generally, the solubility of pure REEs decreases with the increase of leaching temperatures in sulfuric acid, but REE slag was oppositely increased with increasing temperatures. It occurs because the ash layer included in the slag is affected as a resistance against the leaching. By using the Arrhenius expression, the apparent activation energy of the first chemical reaction was determined to be $9.195kJmol^{-1}$. In the second stage, the leaching rate is determined by the ash layer diffusion mechanism. The apparent activation energy of the second ash layer diffusion was determined to be $19.106kJmol^{-1}$. These relative low activation energy values were obtained by the existence of unreacted ash layer in the REE slag.

  • In this study, the mechanical properties and self-healing performance of cement mortar containing clinker binder, calcium sulfoaluminate(CSA), and sodium sulfate(Na2SO4) were evaluated. The mechanical properties of cement mortar were investigated by measuring compressive strength and flexural strength, and the healing performance was evaluated through hydrostatic water permeability test and gas diffusion test. In addition, the healing products precipitated in the cracks were visually observed through an optical microscope and a scanning electron microscope(SEM). As a result, the incorporation of the clinker binder-based inorganic additives improved the initial and 28-day strength by about 20 %. Depending on the healing performance evaluation method, there was a difference in the healing rate, and the healing rate showed a tendency to be underestimated. Nevertheless, CaCO3 was precipitated as the main healing product inside the 0.3 mm crack when the inorganic additives were mixed with cement mortar, improving the self-healing performance.
