  • The aim of this study was to examine the effectiveness of a Laughter Therapy Group Counseling Program on overcoming anxiety, depression, and improving the self-esteem of mothers. The State-Trait Anger Scale, the Beck Depression Inventory, and the Self-Esteem Scale were used as a pre-test, post-test, and follow-up test respectively. The test results were analyzed using a t-test, a one-way analysis of variance. Twelve mothers suffering from anxiety and depression participated in eight sessions of the program, and were then compared with twelve mothers in the control group who did not receive the treatment. The treatment group showed statistically significant improvements in self-esteem, and reduced levels of anxiety and depression, in comparison to the control group. It was concluded that the program was effective in overcoming anxiety, depression, and improving self-esteem in mothers.

  • Complex regional pain syndrome type 1(CRPS 1) is a neuropathic pain disorder that accompanies severe pain and motor deficit as well as changes in the skin in the extremities. The pathophysiology of CRPS 1 is still not exactly elucidated. However, the general consensus of involvement of inflammatory mediators in the development of CRPS 1 is amply made. On the basis that placental extract successfully inhibited the production of inflammatory cytokines and mediators in several experimental models, we have tried a long-term weekly injection of placental extract into acupuncture points to a CRPS 1 patient suffering pain and immobilization of shoulder joint. The results say that placental extract effectively resolved pain, restored skin color and improved immobilization of shoulder joint in the CRPS 1 patient.

The results indicated that nursing students, in general, lacked knowledge on pain management : Correct responses on pain assessment varied between 9.7 and 100% , classification of opioids was in ranges of 61.7 to 95.4% ; Pharmacological actions was 16.6 to 80% : and medication was 14.9 to 85.7%. Less than 12.6% of students correctly identified the frequency of psychological dependence. These results suggested that the need of reinforcement on the pain management in formal nursing education.

  • It is not common in rehabilitation situation to encounter patients exhibiting paralysis or other disabilities which have no apparent organic basis. Even without organic causes for their signs and symptoms these patients often require comprehensive treatment and management. Patients with conversion disorder often pose particular difficulties because of diagnostic confusion and the lack of therapeutic strategies for rehabilitation management. We feel that systematic functional rehabilitation is helpful in resolving symptom and recovering normal function in the patient suffering from conversion disorder since it provides motivation and reduces reinforcements which contribute to sustained disabled state. This report describes the patient with hysterical motor paralysis who is successfully treated with structured physical therapy. The objectives of this report are to provide therapeutic guidelines for physical therapy and to emphasize the role of physical therapist in the assessment and treatment of hysterical paralysis.

Medicinal plants to be an important source of traditional medicines. Various plants are used for the treatment of epilepsy in traditional system of medicines and various plants are yet to be scientifically investigated. Phyto-constituents have been the basis of treatment of human diseases including epilepsy. Herbal products are extensively used for the treatment of many diseases worldwide and where allopathic fails or has severe side effects. Psycho neural drugs are also have very serious side effects like physical dependence, tolerance, deterioration of cognitive function and effect on respiratory, digestive and immune system. So the treatments through herbal medicines are widely used across the world due to their wide applicability and therapeutic efficacy with least side effects, which in turn has accelerated the research regarding natural therapy. In this review we have summarized some herbal anti-epileptics.

  • Patients often suffer from continuous pain negatively affecting their daily life despite a surgical operation. Various studies on complementary therapies against pain have been accumulated as patient with pain desires the improvement in quality of life. Massage therapy as a complementary therapy has been applied widely to decrease the pain and promote relaxation. Thermotherapy with massage is also useful for the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. Here, the author reports that VOSKIN 125+®, a new massage instrument, was designed directly to be adjusted from 38-50 degrees Celsius depending on the individual symptoms by lifting the skin and muscles with a negative compression in illness area for alleviating all pain. It transfers pressure and heat to area of illness and eases the pain. In addition, it has significant anti-inflammatory effects and promotes metabolism activity. VOSKIN 125+® can be therapeutic for pain of musculoskeletal patients. Therefore, I suggest that VOSKIN 125+® can be useful for a great number of patients suffering from persisting pain.

  • Most of small harbours are suffering serious harbour siltation problems in the eastern coast of Korea. Also, many of them necessitate maintenance dredging every year. In order to solve these problems, we have to predict the amount of previous harbour siltation. In the present study, numerical prediction of the harbour siltation has been accomplished using numerical model of 3D beach deformation around a structure. And, also the validity of the model has been confirmed by the field investigation.

  • The suffering damage of persons and properties from fires has become large sized in modem society that buildings are rapidly higher, denser and more complex. Especially, in the building fires, it is recently the most important issue that the treatment of smoke which is the hardest hindrance in escape. Therefore, as effective exhaust matter of smoke or poisonous gas is connected directly, synthetic, fundamental fire prevention countermeasure must be achieved after mutual connections between architecture and mechanical system and requlations ars sufficiently examinated. From this studies, 1 show the structure computation data which can be applied to smoke venting plan and architectural design for safety after find necessity and point at issue of prevention plan of fires by examinating statistical data about cause and damage situation.

  • This study aims to point out what is the basic idea and principle of weed control in or-ganic farming. The korean organic agriculture gets a point in dispute on weed control, be-cause 1) they do not practice the Basic Standard of IFOAM and FAO/WHO Codex Guidelines(draft), and 2) Korean organic farming is defined quite differently from internationally recognized core aspects for organic agriculture. Organic farming, in Korea, is taken to mean just the replacement of chemical fertilizer by organic manure and a-voidance of agricultural chemicals without practicing on rotation, cropping system and so on. As a consequence, organic farmers in Korea are suffering from hard labor to control the weed. In the paper it is discussed on organical weed control method which are required in the Basic Standard of IFOAM and guidelined in the Organic Production Principles of FAO/WHO Codex draft, and furthermore the single or combination effect of those method are also discussed. In conclusion it is suggest the necessity, purpose, and effect of the introduction of the basic stan-dard to korean organic agriculture including organical weed control.
