  • Apartment Buildings have particularity to cluster together, especially, floor is close to resident, it is subject to dissatisfaction about impact noise between up and down floors. However, we require standard for counterplan to reduce the impact noise of floor. In point of fact, it difficult to objective evaluate for performance sound insulation that not physical sound volume but orignal form, means and effect of sound caused to complex noise in apartment house. Unique type of dwelling and structure pattern cause to noise of floor impact which is established by law for standard regulation. It is object to analysis and compare the result of performance sound insulation of upper floor impact and sample construct the subject resilient material of sound insulator

  • According to several pilot tests, petite women have their own body proportion which is not simply an overall diminutive reflection of the proportion of Misses sizes. Apparel manufacturers and pattern companies do not consider racial differences nor do they consider petite women's own specific body proportions in their size categories to produce petite garments. The primary objectives of this study was to describe the petite women's body proportions especially the differences between Asian and Caucasian petite women and to compare their body proportions to the average body figure. A physical body measurement chart was developed and revised through a pretest. Sixty subjects, thirty for each group of Asian and Caucasian. They were landmarked using an anthropometric instrument and photographed using the method of somatography for analysis of body proportions. Data were analyzed by t-test for a description of the petite subject's body proportion. The results of this study indicated that the Caucasian subjects had generally a longer lower torso than tehAian subjects in their body proportions. both subject groups had differnt body proportions from the aerage body figure.

  • The purpose of this paper is to propose a new binary classification method for predicting corporate failure based on genetic algorithm, and to validate its prediction power through empirical analysis. Establishing virtual companies representing bankrupt companies and non-bankrupt ones respectively, the proposed method measures the similarity between the virtual companies and the subject for prediction, and classifies the subject into either bankrupt or non-bankrupt one. The values of the classification variables of the virtual companies and the weights of the variables are determined by the proper model to maximize the hit ratio of training data set using genetic algorithm. In order to test the validity of the proposed method, we compare its prediction accuracy with ones of other existing methods such as multi-discriminant analysis, logistic regression, decision tree, and artificial neural network, and it is shown that the binary classification method we propose in this paper can serve as a premising alternative to the existing methods for bankruptcy prediction.

  • We introduce a surplus process which follows a diffusion process with positive drift and is subject to two types of claim. We assume that type I claim occurs more frequently, however, its size is stochastically smaller than type II claim. We obtain the ruin probability that the level of the surplus becomes negative, and then, decompose the ruin probability into three parts, two ruin probabilities caused by each type of claim and the probability that the level of the surplus becomes negative naturally due to the diffusion process. Finally, we illustrate a numerical example, when the sizes of both types of claim are exponentially distributed, to compare the impacts of two types of claim on the ruin probability of the surplus along with that of the diffusion process.

  • Anthropometric studies and multicultural research on body changes are fundamental and important data for domestic apparel industry and for globalization of women's clothing marketing. The objective of this study is to compare the general body measurements and shoulder angles of Korean and U. S. elderly women to supply basic data for the apparel design. The anthropometric data was collected including both direct and indirect measurements of 272 women over the age of 55 in Korean (subject = 123) and the U.S (subject = 149). The statistical methods used for the analysis of measurement data are the factor and cluster analysis respectively. The results of the factor analysis indicated that 5 factors can be extracted in Korean and 4 factors can be extracted in the U. S. from 15 body measurements to explain the variance. The results of cluster analysis by shoulder slope angle and forward displacement of the shoulder of Korean and the U. S. women classified them in three groups, cluster 1, cluster 2 and cluster 3 respectively.

  • The main objective of this study is to investigate the impact of additional modalities on the performance of emotion recognition using speech, facial expression and physiological measurements. In order to compare different approaches, we designed a feature-based recognition system as a benchmark which carries out linear supervised classification followed by the leave-one-out cross-validation. For the classification of four emotions, it turned out that bimodal fusion in our experiment improves recognition accuracy of unimodal approach, while the performance of trimodal fusion varies strongly depending on the individual. Furthermore, we experienced extremely high disparity between single class recognition rates, while we could not observe a best performing single modality in our experiment. Based on these observations, we developed a novel fusion method, called parametric decision fusion (PDF), which lies in building emotion-specific classifiers and exploits advantage of a parametrized decision process. By using the PDF scheme we achieved 16% improvement in accuracy of subject-dependent recognition and 10% for subject-independent recognition compared to the best unimodal results.

  • In some observational studies, we have often random censoring model. However, the data available may be partially observable censored data consisting of the observed failure times and only those nonfailure times which are subject to follow up. In this paper, we present an extension of the problem of partially parametric estimation of the survival function to such partially observable censored data. The proposed estimator treats the observed failure times nonparametrically and uses a parametric model only for those nonfailure times which are subject to follow-up. We discuss the motivation and construction of the proposed estimator and investigate the limiting properties of the proposed estimator such as asymptotic normality. Also, when the assumed parametric model is exponential, the asymptotic variance of the estimator is obtained. Furthermore, an example is given to compare the proposed estimator with the modified Kaplan Meier(MKM) estimator. From the results, it is shown that the relative efficiency of the proposed estimator is higher than that of the MKM estimator in the follow-up study with increasing time.

  • $Al_2O_3$coatings on mild steel substrate by plasma spray process were produced to evaluate microstructural characterization and mechanical properties. As-coated $Al_2O_3$coating samplessd were subjected to two heat treat-ment conditions : ⅰ) annealing under vacuum circumstance, ⅱ) hot press treated condition. The two heat treat-ed coatings were investigated in terms of microhardness, adhesion strength, wear resistance, porosity forma-tion, and microstructures. In the case of the coatings which were subject to preparation step ⅰ, the porosity in the coating was decreased with the increase of temperature ($700^{\circ}C$-$1100^{\circ}C$), and the wear resistance, microhardnesss and adhesion strength were increased with the increase of temperature. On the other hand, in the case of the coatings which were subject to preparation step ⅱ, wear resistance and adhesion strength were improved with the increase of temperature and pressure. Experimental measurements of coatings which were produced by both preparation conditions were enhanced compare to those of as-coated coatings.

  • We briefly survey the history of abacus and counting rods which had been most widespread devices for arithmetical calculations. And we explain and compare the methods and principles of calculation on the abacus and counting rods. Only multiplication and division are presented here with examples. In these course we can see that the principles of calculation on the abacus are inherited from that of calculation on the counting rods. We also discuss the educational value of the abacus.

  • The objective of this paper is to numerically examine the mechanical behavior of the swaged power steering(PS) hose subject to internal pressure. PS hose experiences a large internal pressure change in operating, so it's material part has to resist a cyclic expansion and compression without causing oil leakage. This cyclic pressure is intimately associated with fatigue failure of PS hose. In this study, we compare two types of PS hose. The numerical investigation is composed of three steps; swaging analysis, low and high pressure analyses. The comparative numerical results provide the basic data for the optimal PS design.
