  • This paper presents seismic analysis of concrete gravity dams considering soil-structure-fluid interaction. Displacement based plane strain finite element formulation is considered for the dam and foundation domain whereas pressure based finite element formulation is considered for the reservoir domain. A direct coupling method has been adopted to obtain the interaction effects among the dam, foundation and reservoir domain to obtain the dynamic responses of the dam. An efficient absorbing boundary condition has been implemented at the truncation surfaces of the foundation and reservoir domains. A parametric study has been carried out considering each domain separately and collectively based on natural frequencies, crest displacement and stress at the neck level of the dam body. The combined frequency of the entire coupled system is very less than that of the each individual sub-system. The crest displacement and neck level stresses of the dam shows prominent enhancement when coupling effect is taken into consideration. These outcomes suggest that a complete coupled analysis is necessary to obtain the actual responses of the concrete gravity dam. The developed methodology can easily be implemented in finite element code for analyzing the coupled problem to obtain the desired responses of the individual subdomains.

  • Eigenvalue reduction schemes approximate the lower eigenmodes that represent the global behavior of the structures. In the previous study, we proposed a two-level condensation scheme (TLCS) for the construction of a reduced system. And we have improved previous TLCS with combination of the iterated improved reduced system method (IIRS) to increase accuracy of the higher modes intermediate range. In this study, we apply previous improved TLCS to multi-level sub-structuring scheme. In the first step, the global system is recursively partitioned into a hierarchy of sub-domain. In second step, each uncoupled sub-domain is condensed by the improved TLCS. After assembly process of each reduced sub-eigenvalue problem, eigen-solution is calculated by Lanczos method (ARPACK). Finally, Numerical examples demonstrate performance of proposed method.

  • In this paper, we present and analyze a fully discrete numerical method for solving the time-fractional diffusion wave equation: ∂βtu - div(a∇u) = f, 1 < β < 2. We first construct a difference formula to approximate ∂βtu by using an interpolation of derivative type. The truncation error of this formula is of O(△t2+δ-β)-order if function u(t) ∈ C2,δ[0, T] where 0 ≤ δ ≤ 1 is the Hölder continuity index. This error order can come up to O(△t3-β) if u(t) ∈ C3 [0, T]. Then, in combinination with the linear finite volume discretization on spatial domain, we give a fully discrete scheme for the fractional wave equation. We prove that the fully discrete scheme is unconditionally stable and the discrete solution admits the optimal error estimates in the H1-norm and L2-norm, respectively. Numerical examples are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed numerical method.

  • An iterated improved reduced system (IIRS) procedure combined with sub-structuring scheme for nonclassically damped structural systems is presented. For dynamic analysis of such systems, complex eigenproperties are required to incorporate properly the nonclassical damping effect. In complex structural systems, the equations of motion are written in the state space from. Thus, the number of degrees of freedom of the new equations of motion and the size of the associated eigenvalue problem required to obtain the complex eigenvalues and eigenvectors are doubled. Iterated IRS method is an efficient reduction technique because the eigenproperties obtained in each iteration step improve the condensation matrix in the next iteration step. However, although this reduction technique reduces the size of problem drastically, it is not efficient to apply this technique to a single domain finite element model with degrees of freedom over several thousands. Therefore, for a practical application of the reduction method, accompanying sub-structuring scheme is necessary. In the present study, iterated IRS method combined with sub-structuring scheme for nonclssically damped structures is developed. Numerical examples demonstrate the convergence and the efficiency of a newly developed scheme.

  • The evaluation of a zonal RANS-LES approach is documented for the prediction of broadband noise generated by the flow past unmodified and serrated airfoil trailing edges at a high Reynolds number. A multi-domain decomposition is considered, where the acoustic sources are resolved with a LES sub-domain embedded in the RANS domain. A stochastic vortex method is used to generate synthetic turbulent perturbations at the RANS-LES interface. The simulations are performed with a general-purpose unstructured control-volume code FLUENT. The far-field noise is calculated using the aeroacoustic analogy of Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings. The results of the simulation are validated through the full-scaled wind turbine acoustic measurements. It is found that the present approach is adequate for predicting noise radiation of serrated trailing edge flow for low noise rotor system.

  • The thermal conductivity of uranium oxide (UO2) containing pores and grain boundaries is investigated using continuum-level simulations based on the finite-difference method in two and three dimensions. Steady-state heat conduction is solved on microstructures generated from the phase-field model of the porous polycrystal to calculate the effective thermal conductivity of the domain. The effects of porosity, pore size, and grain size on the effective thermal conductivity of UO2 are quantified. Using simulation results, a new empirical model is developed to predict the effective thermal conductivity of porous polycrystalline UO2 fuel as a function of porosity and grain size.

  • In this study, sub domain of flow was investigated on literature survey, and suggested of the measuring method of web-site flow and its simulation analysis. Constructing of measuring method of flow, and using this method what-if analysis was simulated when several condition changed. Using causal map approach to extract knowledge from web-site domain experts and to derives a causal relationship of knowledge. Specially, in our study, describes method of developing and building causal map, and suggests guide line of this method on practical application. This research results show that web-site flow starts "direct searching" or "interesting of special issue(domain)", and when challenges of web-site were accorded with user's skills web-site flow grows. Further, in the web-site, information searching intention results in increase of user's duration time and experience flow to discovery new interesting issues in this process. If user's web-site of interaction is increased, awareness of environment conditions decreased, finally, user's telepresense results in increased web-site flow. This paper contained thai this method make used of measuring flow in the web-site and developing of practical strategy.

  • This paper presents the analysis of a time reversal process for $A_0$ Lamb wave mode($A_0$ mode) on a rectangular plate. The dispersion characteristic equation of the $A_0$ mode is approximated using the Timoshenko beam theory. A virtual sensor array model is developed to consider the effects of reflections occurring on the plate boundary on the time reversal process. The time reversal process is formulated in the frequency domain using the virtual sensor array model. The reconstructed signal is obtained in the time domain through an inverse fast Fourier transform. The validity of the proposed method is demonstrated through the comparison to the numerical simulation results computed by the finite element analysis.
