This study was conducted for determining the influence of artificial structures on benthic macroinvertebrate communities in stream. Sampling was taken at upper(pool), down(riffle) and control(riffle) from two check dams, two weirs, one agricultural reservoir, and one multipurpose dam in northern part of Gyeongsangbuk-do. The benthic macroinvertebrate communities of these structures were surveyed during 2009 to 2011. The simple habitat of benthic macroinvertebrates occurred at the upper sites due to pooling effects from artificial structures. Specifically, Check dam1, Jusanji, Imha dam showed very low biological attribute values compared to the down and control sites, which have greater difference in substrate characteristics. However, in the upper sites of Check dam2, Weir1 and Weir2, the difference of values of biological attributes was relatively smaller. Also, proportion of functional feeding groups and functional habit groups were relatively simpler at upper stream and the degree of community differences was greater between upper and down, control sites. Spearman's correlation between biological attributes and substrate characteristics, water quality parameters had significant correlations; particularly, the substrate characteristics were more significantly related. In conclusion, the pool caused by artificial structures had negative effects on benthic macroinvertebrate communities thus leading to simplified stream habitats at upper stream ecosystems.

This study was carried out to assess the effect of discharge loading at sewage treatment plants (STP) on water quality in Kyoungan stream. The seasonal variations of water quality (BOD, COD, SS, TN, and chl.a) at site 1(Mesanribo) were similar with those at site 2(Sehabo). BOD, COD, SS, and chl.a concentration were also similar except for TN and TP concentration which were lower than those at site 1. The BOD, COD, TN, TP and chl.a concentration at site 2 in dry period were higher than that of wet period. The ratios of BOD, TP, COD, SS discharge loading at all STP in Kyoungan stream watershed to delivery loading at site 2 were 0.69, 0.54, 0.48, 0.31, and 0.26 on average, respectively. Both site 1 and site 2, the seasonal variations of discharge loading at STP did not showed any relationship with those of water quality. The mean ratios of inflow loading at site 1 to delivery loading at site 2 were relatively high that ranged from 0.43 to 0.61. In dry period, the ratios of discharge loading at STP in Sehabo watershed to delivery loading at site 2 were below 0.2 except for BOD (0.24), and decreased <0.1 in wet period. While, SS loading from watershed between site 1 and site 2 to delivery loading at site 2 ratios increased in wet period.

Shuttle Radar Topography Mission Digital Elevation Model (SRTM DEM) offers opportunities to make advances in many research areas including hydrology by providing near-global scale elevation measurements at a uniform resolution. Its wide coverage and complimentary online access especially benefits researchers requiring topographic information of hard-to-access areas. However, SRTM DEM also contains inherent errors, which are subject to propagation with its manipulation into analysis outputs. Sensitivity of hydrologic analysis to the errors has not been fully understood yet. This study investigated their impact on estimation of hydrologic derivatives such as slope, stream network, and watershed boundary using Monte Carlo simulation and spatial moving average techniques. Different amount of the errors and their spatial auto-correlation structure were considered in the study. Two sub-watersheds of Geum and Deadong River areas located in South and North Korea, respectively, were selected as the study areas. The results demonstrated that the spatial presentations of stream networks and watershed boundaries and their length and area estimations could be greatly affected by the SRTM DEM errors, in particular relatively flat areas. In the Deadong River area, artifacts of the SRTM DEM created sinks even after the filling process and then closed drainage basin and short stream lines, which are not the case in the reality. These findings provided an evidence that SRTM DEM alone may not enough to accurately figure out the hydrologic feature of a watershed, suggesting need of local knowledge and complementary data.
Water quality models can be applied to manage the regional water quality problems and to estimate the target and allowable pollution load in watershed effectively. Since the models such as QUAL2E, W ASP5 and HSPF need many data and are not easily applied in real systems, the water quality model, which would be simple and easily applicable, has been required. Thus, an Analytical Model of BOD(AMB) considering travel time of pollutant was developed for the total pollution load regulation in drainage basin. It was found that the main stream length of a sub-basin in the AMB should be shorter than 7km and the length of distributed pollutant load should also be shorter than 3.5km in a sub-basin. The basin in the AMB could be divided into sub-basins with almost same hydraulic characteristics and reaction rate constant satisfying the proposed stream length. The running results of the AMB in a small stream were very close to the results of QUAL2E, which is widely used one in the world. Therefore, the AlVIB can be used to regulate the total pollution load in drainage district by local government.rnment.

The water quality and the budget of pollutant loading in the downstream of Nakdong River were surveyed at 3 sites along the main stream from Mulgum to Hadan and 1 site of Yangsan tributary with response to the tides in May and June, 1983. The level of TSS in the Yangsan tributary, 6.1~21.3mg/l, was higher than any other site. The mean values of BOD were 1.16mg/l at Mulgum site, 1.83mg/l Yangsan site, 0.79mg/l Hwamyeong site and 3.56mg/l at Hadan site. The levels of NH sub(4) super(+)-N and PO sub(4) super(3-)-P were the highest at Hadan site, and the levels of zinc and copper were 2.11~5.98ppb and ND-50.00ppb at Yangsan tributary site. Although the flow rate of Yangsan stream accounted for only 4% of that of main stream, but the mean value of pollutant loading in the Yangsan stream amounted to 8.3% of the that of main steam.
We have investigated sintering effects on Fe/Mo ordering and magnetoresistance (MR) in double perovskite-reflection lines due to $Sr_2FeMoO_6$ (SFMO). Polycrystalline samples have been prepared by the conventional solid-state reaction by sintering in a stream of 5% $H_2/Ar$ gas. All samples are single phase and exhibit a series of superstructurecation ordering at Fe and Mo sites. As sintering temperature increases from 900 to $1300^{\circ}C$, the degree of Fe/Mo ordering increases from 82 to 92%, magnetization (15 K, 7 kOe) increases from 1.6 to 2.7 ${\mu}_B/f.u.,$ and Curie temperature increases at a rate of 4.3 K/% with the increase of Fe/Mo ordering ratio. The magnitude of MR measured at 5 K is 19% for sample prepared at $1000^{\circ}C$ with magnetic fields of 7 kOe. The observed MR is proportional to the square of magnetization indicating that the MR feature in SFMO is explained by the spin-polarized tunneling at grain boundaries.

Simultaneous removal of $NH_3,\;H_2S$ and toluene in a contaminated air stream was investigated over 185 days in a biofilter packed with Zeocarbon granule as microbial support. In this study, multi-microorganisms including Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter for nitrogen removal, Thiobacillus thioparus (ATCC 23645) for $H_2S$ removal, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 15692), Pseudomonas putida (ATCC 17484) and Pseudomonas putida (ATCC 23973) for toluene removal were used simultaneously. The empty bed residence time (EBRT) was 40-120 seconds and the feed (inlet) concentrations of $NH_3,\;H_2S$ and toluene were 0.02-0.11, 0.05-0.23 and 0.15-0.21 ppmv, respectively. The observed removal efficiency was 85%-99% for $NH_3$, 100% for $H_2S$, and 20-90% for toluene, respectively. The maximum elimination capacities were 9.3, 20.6 and $17g/m^3/hr\;for\;NH_3,\;H_2S$ and toluene, respectively. The results of kinetic model analysis showed that there were no particular evidences of interactions or inhibitions among the microorganisms, and that the three bio degradation reactions took place independently within a finite area of biofilm developed on the surface of the Zeocarbon carrier.

A biofiltration system using activated carbon/polyurethane composite as solid support inoculated with Bacillus sp. was developed for treating a gaseous stream containing high concentrations of H$_2$S. The effects of operating condition such as the influent H$_2$S concentration and the empty bed contact time (EBCT) on the removal efficiency of H$_2$S were investigated. The biofilter showed the stable removal efficiencies of over 99 % under the EBCT range from 15 to 60 sec at the 300 ppmv of H$_2$S inlet concentration. When the inlet concentration of H$_2$S was increased, the removal efficiencies decreased, reaching 95 and 74%, at EBCTs of 10 and 7.5 sec, respectively. The maximum elimination capacity in the biofilter packed with activated carbon/polyurethane composite media was 157 g/m$^3$/hr.

In the past years, a giant magnetoresistance (GMR) effect found in perovskite-like structured materials has attracted considerable attention among scientists and manufacturers, since, a practical point of view, the capacity of producing magnetic and sensing sensors. In a stream of this interest, further efforts to understand the underlying mechanism that leads to the GMR effect relative to the correlation between transport and magnetic properties, have been extensively devoted. In these cases, spin-glass-like behaviors are ascribed to the frustration of random competing exchange interactions, namely the ferromagnetic double-exchange interaction between Co$\^$3+/ (or Mn$\^$3+/) and Co$\^$4+/(or Mn$\^$4+/) and the antiferromagnetic one like spins. Noticeably, the distinction of spin-glass region from cluster-glass one, involved in the remarkable changes in transport and magnetic properties at a critical value of doping concentration, was observed. Magnetic anomalies in zero-field-cooled (ZFC) magnetization as well as ac magnetic susceptibility below Curie temperature T$\sub$c/ and the charge/orbital fluctuation were also realized. In this work, we present a study of magnetic properties of a deficient manganese perovskites system of La$\sub$0.6/Sr$\sub$x/MnTi$\sub$y/O$_3$, and particularly provide its new magnetic phase diagram.

Na promoted Pt/$CeO_2$ catalysts with various Na amounts (1, 2, and 3wt%) have been applied to water gas shift reaction (WGS) at a gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) of 45515 $h^{-1}$. 1wt%Pt-2wt%Na/$CeO_2$ catalyst exhibited the highest WGS activity at $240^{\circ}C$ among the catalysts prepared in this study. In addition, 1wt%Pt-2wt%Na/$CeO_2$ catalyst showed relatively stable activity with time on stream. The high activity/stability of 1wt%Pt-2wt%Na/$CeO_2$ catalyst was correlated to its easier reducibility and higher oxygen storage capacity (OSC). As a result, 2wt% Na promoted Pt/$CeO_2$ can be a promising candidate catalyst for the single stage WGS, which requires high intrinsic activity at very high GHSV.
