A Study on the Physical Feature of Cohousing Projects in Denmark and Sweden (덴마크와 스웨덴 코하우징의 물리적 특성에 대한 연구)

  • Korea has experienced serious changes during the last several decades of industrialization. Limited land resources and excessive rural-to-urban migration inevitably resulted high-rise apartment housing development. However, apartment housing couldn't follow up social change and residents' needs. Turning into the 21st century, there are great demands for the diversification of housing style and amenity of housing, which include enhancing community lift through proper collective environment. To solve these problems, cohousing has been introduced in Scandinavian countries. A primary goal of cohousing is the desire of residents to live in a socially supportive setting. People can do housework together and also can promote active mutual relationship among residents in the community. Physical feature of cohousing, in combination with social organization factors, may serve to enhance or support the sense of community sought by residents. In this point of view, the purpose of this study is to find out the physical feature of cohousing in Denmark and Sweden. First, it is to figure out the background and development of cohousing in Denmark and Sweden. Then, by making clear physical features between similarity and difference of two countries of cohousing through case study; such as housing type, the circulation patterns, common facilities and etc. This paper could suggest a possibility of application of cohousing in Korea to present how they encourage emphasize design aspects that increase the possibilities for social contacts and the sense of community. Also, it goes on to suggest that the educational program and the support from the government.

The study on the script prayed by Ik-An prince(益安大君) in early Choseon Dynasty (조선초(朝鮮初) 익안대군발원사경(益安大君發願寫經)에 관한 연구(硏究))

  • The praying sentences of the script of Saddharmapundarika-sutra NO.5 which was made by prayer Bang-Ui, prince Ik-An, was investigated and the cover painting, Byonsangwha(Buddha's preaching painting), and letter style written in the script were discussed in this study. The cover painting on the script is known to be followed to the style of the cover painting as shown in a set of 7 rolls of Saddharma pundarika-sutra of the Horim Museum collection. It is not so difficult to say that the characteristics of cover painting of the script would be suceeded to those of scripts of the end of Koryo and the early Choseon Dynasty. Lotus and its surround was decorated with arabesque figure whose stems were drawn with golden paste and the arabesque figures were done with silver paste. However, for the expression of lotus and arabesque pattern the special feature of drawing style that was originated from the end of Koryo Dynasty to draw the outline with broad line and/or the hardness of drawing line became much more deepened than ever. It is not different to think that this characteristics should be those of Choseon Dynasty. On the Byeonsangwha(buddha's preaching painting) the painting of scattered flowers on stairs of Sumera-Mandala and the scheduled clouds (underseen from heaven) were as similar as to the Byeonsangwha style of the end of Koryo and the early Choseon Dynasty. However, the image of Shakyamuni and/or the halo(光背) is nearly same as the characteristics shown on the Beonsangwha of Saddharma pundarika-sutra of Nesosa' collection, a set of seven rolls which was completed in the 15th year of king Taejong(AD 1415). It is apparent that these characteristics are those of Choseon Dynasty. After king Chungsean in Koryo Dynasty, letter style of Chao Meng-Fu was shown in the script of late Koryo Dynasty as a new letter style.

  • The objective of this study is to consider the concept of postmodernism and the characteristics concerning the stage of the development, and to investigate the effect of the postmodernism on the clothing. Postmodernism is the result of the late capitalism and its characteristics are the narrative, mixture and deconstruction. First, since it is impossible to express the social culture of various society through one theoretical disclosure, the novel value on the narrative is provided and its characteristics arise. Hence, the society becomes afford to accept the other and provides the novel value to the absolute sub-concept. Second, the recognization and emphasis of the narrative in the post modem society bring about the repulsion as to the strict classification between the high culture and low one established from modernism and the closure between each genre of the art, and this causes to raise the composed characteristics which borrow or mix the style and image of different age and culture. Third, the deconstructive feature arises which eliminates the boundary between the high and low class, the past and future and the destruction and construction. This means not only anther recomposition but also skeptical attitude about it.

  • The researcher has tried to develop the aesthetic value of the art and the function of metalwork in conjunction with our daily life. especially has been eager to develop the new possibility of metal urns through the investigation of ordinary metalwork. Funeral urns are vessels to fill the ashes of bodies. As the social issues, including problems of restricted land territory and environmental pollution are awakening, many people are much concerned about the use of urns in recent days. Although social concerns about cremation and urns are getting high, most urns in Korea have been made of ceramic and stone. The shape of old urns are pot style with lids, and their color is simple white or jade green. Moreover, old urns are expensive, unpractical, simple, and furthermore, the feature of urns has not preserved the sense of beauty. In this context, we have narrow choices to select urns, and it has been difficult for us to be familiar with the old-style urns. Therefore, the need for developing metal urns are necessary as the increase of public concerns towards cremation is widely spreading. As it is well known, metal is not only regarded as hard, antibacterial, pro-environmental material , but also regarded as good substance for urns. Metal is also suitable for making urns because of metal's characteristics of easy processing, mass production, and cheap price. The researcher has been tried to find the possibility of art of metalwork through the dissemination of metal urns to the public. The researcher has also attempted to represent the characteristics and symbolic implications of contemporary metal urns for ordinary people to adopt metal urns as their 'Rite Haven'.

A study on the Characteristic Analysis of Ground Plan of the Civil Basilica in the Roman Period (로마시대 공공 바실리카의 평면특성 분석에 관한 연구)

  • The origin of the Roman public basilica is Rome's indigenous style morphologically but actually it seems that developed the Greek semi-open style stoa into the Roman practical interior space. In the early ages, the arrangement of Roman forum had been planned high symbolical temple as the center but gradually changed into the basilica centered which were used often by citizen. Through the Roman period, the important types of early Roman basilica have Fano basilica in the first century BC, Pompei basilica of mid period in the first century AD, Doclear basilica with apse as late type in the second century AD. Pompei type well characterized the feature of Roman public basilica among them. The result of the floor plan analysis shows that the long side access to the interior space is over 76 percent of examples and nearly 70 percent have no apse and the average of vertical horizontal length ratio presents as 1:2.3. The typical plan of Roman public basilica can be defined that most of access are being entered from one of the long side, and most of basilica have no apse, and normally having inner columns arranged in one or more concentric rectangles around nave as a center.

Design of Bowing-Activity Monitoring and Automatic Detection System Using 3-Axis Accelerometer (3축-가속도 센서를 이용한 배례(拜禮)동작 모니터링 및 자동검출 시스템 설계)

  • In this paper, a new reliable portable activity monitoring device implemented with the buddhist-style bowing activity and walking step detection algorithm, is presented. In order to monitor the bowing and walking activities, miniaturized 3-axis accelerometer sensor with the sensitivity of 800 mV/g was used. After initial signal conditioning, vector magnitude of accelerometer signals was calculated. Syntactic peak detection method was used in order to feature points. All signal processing algorithms were implemented in ultra-low power microcontroller MSP430 with double precision floating point arithmetic. For evaluation, 19 young man($24.22\pm5.22$ yrs) and woman($22.28\pm2.72$ yrs) were involved. The accuracy of the proposed algorithms were 98.91 %($\pm0.011$) for walking step detection and 98.25 %($\pm0.023$) for buddhist-style bowing activity. Comparing to the commercialized pedometer accuracy, 87.1 %($\pm0.058$), the proposed walking step detection algorithms show more reliable accuracy.

  • We propose an image filtering technique that removes various image styles. To destylize a given image, we define image styles as repeated patterns existing in the image. For dll pixels of the image, we compute image styles as style vectors. We remove image styles by using bilateral filtering based on these style vectors. Destylization results show well smoothed images while preserving feature boundaries. Our method effectively removes image styles and reveals image structures clearly, and results can be applied to several applications such as texture transfer.

A Study about the Characteristics of Designs in John Galliano Collection - focusing on Christian Dior's Collection - (존 갈리아노 컬렉션의 디자인 특성에 관한 연구 - 크리스찬 디오르의 컬렉션을 중심으로 -)

  • The main purpose of this study is to identify characteristics of shapes of John Galliano's Dior Collection as the chief executive designer of Christian Dior Maison during $1996{\sim}2007$ after he showed himself in Paris in 1990. This study was based on the analyses of John Galliano's design trends of his collections, the pictures of his works in Christian Dior's collection, real works, documents and fashion magazines, newspapers, mass media, internet sites and other visual materials. The study identified characteristics of shapes in Dior Collection until 07/08 F/W as the chief executive designer of Christian Dior Maison, and the design trends before his post-Paris period. Followings are the conclusions of the study. First, Galliano was open to any types of cultures as a liberalist, and also respectful to the tradition or principles. He led the fashion business with new trends by exploring both sides. Second, he succeeded in commercializing his avant-garde feature. Especially, His creativity changed the image of Christian Dior to younger and more casual one. Third, born in England and worked in French, he always took both English (Victorian Style) and French(Napoleon era, Femme Fatal style) sides, and showed excellent formulation that the times needed by combining topical Chinese, Japanese, Egyptian styles.

  • A house is basic unit of human being living space and it reflects an occupation, family relation, a life style and sense of value of resident. The purpose of this study was to research the continuity of traditional elements and contemporary change of Japanese houses by field study and literature research. The subject of this study was sixteen houses of Miyashiro, Saitama pref. in Japan. The results of this study are as follow as. First, the traditional elements of contemporary Japanese houses are tatami floor room, tsuzukima, zashiki, dokonoma, butsudan, amado. Second, the tatami is symbol of Japanese living space. Wasizus maintains a traditional characteristic, but it is developed and fixed properly change in contemporary life. Third, the traditional elements of Japanese houses are continuing in the modern houses, and they are continuously changed the feature from recreate. It can be a connection of a hereditary factor of residential culture. Four, the continuity of modern change and traditional element of the Japanese houses can be understood the change of the structural and spatial responding method to accommodates a life.

Field Technique of Non-Educated Constructors in Timber Structure of Korean-Style Secondary Station(Gong-So) -Focused on the Sin-Sung and Su-Bun Secondary Stations- (한옥 공소의 목구조 방식에 나타난 민간 기술자의 현장기법 -천주교 신성공소와 장수천주교회 수분공소를 중심으로-)

  • This paper is aimed to clarify field technique of non-educated constructors in timber structure of korean-style secondary station(Gong-So) on the annex of catholic church. The main object of this study is Sin-Sung and Su-Bun secondary stations which post-lintel structure was 2high columns(Go-Ju) 5beams(Ryang) in Jeon-Buk area of Korea. We reached the following conclusion. Firstly, these secondary stations are required a lots of space for number of persons with the introduction of basilica plane. These plans have different intervals in the layout. Secondly, they constructed the holy space by using high columns(Nae-Jin-Go-Ju). The former problems of plan layout are sloved by reinforcement and replacement eaves and rafter of logitudinal. Thirdly, the elements showed the natural feature such as irregular wooden floor, arch-type head pentrating tie and a ceiling. In the end, we knew that non-educated constructor had found a way in the problem for accepting unreasonable work.
