초등 과학영재 학생과 일반 학생의 과학 동시 특성 및 과학 동시 쓰기에 대한 인식 비교 (Comparing Characteristics and Perceptions of Writing Science Poems for Scientifically-Gifted and General Elementary Students)

  • This study compared the characteristics of scientific poems written by scientifically-gifted and general elementary students, and their perceptions of writing scientific poem. To do this, 5~6 graders (n=100) at two gifted science education institutes and 5~6 graders (n=93) at a elementary school in Seoul were selected. Scientific poems written by the students were analyzed according to their numbers and types. Their perceptions of writing scientific poems were also analyzed through a questionnaire and group interviews. The analysis of the results revealed that the general students wrote more scientific poems than the scientifically-gifted students for thirty minutes. The general students mainly named the titles in a direct way, while scientifically-gifted students did it in an implicit way. The free verse poems in both general students and scientifically-gifted students appeared most frequently, and the prose or narrative poems also often appeared. The general and scientifically-gifted students frequently used impersonation, and some students did not use metaphors. They didn't connect the scientific knowledge for multiple grade. While the poems of the general students evenly included the scientific knowledge for various academic fields, those of scientifically-gifted students tended to include the scientific knowledge for physics or chemistry. The poems of scientifically-gifted students tended to include more science process skills, especially in basic inquiry skills, than those of general students. The scientifically-gifted students wrote scientific poems in a more expanded form regarding the scientific knowledge, than the general students. Scientifically-gifted students perceived the educational benefits of writing scientific poems more positively based on various cognitive and affective aspects. However, many scientifically-gifted and general students had also several difficulties in the processes of writing scientific poems. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.

논의활동이 초등학생의 과학글쓰기에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Argumentation on the Scientific Writing of Elementary School Students)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 초등학생의 논의활동과 과학글쓰기와의 상호 관련성을 정성적으로 알아보는데 있다. 이와 같은 과제를 해결하기 위하여 과학적 상황 및 사회과학적 상황으로 구성된 9가지 논의 및 과학글쓰기 주제를 가지고 초등학교 5학년 학생을 대상으로 논의 및 과학글쓰기 활동을 행하였다. 논의과정에서 나눈 대화내용과 논의활동 전 후에 작성한 과학글쓰기의 내용을 녹음하고 전사하여 과학 글쓰기 세 가지 목표영역에 준거한 분석틀에 따라 비교 분석하였다. 이번 연구를 통하여 얻어진 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 논의활동 중의 다양한 의견들은 논의 후 과학글쓰기에서 과학글쓰기 3가지 목표영역인 과학성, 논리성, 창의성이 신장되는데 긍정적인 효과를 주었다. 둘째, 논의활동이 논의 후 과학글쓰기에 나타나는 표현 형태는 크게 세 가지로 범주화할 수 있었다. 유형 1) 논의과정에서 새롭게 드러난 자신의 과학개념, 주장, 아이디어를 보충하여 표현하는 경우, 유형 2) 논의과정에서 다른 사람의 과학개념, 주장, 근거, 아이디어를 자기화하여 나타내는 경우, 유형 3) 논의활동에 기초하여 새로운 사실을 추론하거나 새로운 아이디어를 표현하는 경우이다.

초등 분야 과학논술대회 참가자들의 과학 글쓰기 능력 분석 (Analysis of the Elementary School Participants' Readiness to Write on Scientific Subjects in Science Writing Contest)

  • In order to investigate elementary school students' readiness to write on scientific subject, we analyzed the participants' draft in elementary student section [National Student Science Writing Contest] which is sponsored by a daily press. As a first step, we designed an assessment framework to analyze the students' writing. It is composed of three domains: scientific thinking, logical validity, creativeness. Each domain has three sub-domains. By using the framework, seven raters scored the students' inquiry reports. The findings reveal that the students needed the training for scientific writing. Especially they had great difficulty in the sub-domain of 'suggestion of rational alternative solution' in scientific thinking domain, the sub-domains of 'clearness' and 'coherence' in logical validity domain, and in the sub-domains of 'creative problem solving' and 'creative presentation' in creative domain.

과학 탐구 능력 신장을 위한 과학 글쓰기 교수.학습 전략 개발 (The Development of Teaching and Learning Strategy for Improving Science Process Skills with Science Writing)

  • The science writing is recognized for useful learning method to boost up scientific thinking for all class course as well as traditional lecture and experiment. Many researches say that science writing is helpful to extend students' science knowledge and scientific attitude. By the way, the researchers thought that science writing can also improve the science process skill if students participate in delicately organized learning program. In this study, we had contrived the teaching & learning strategy of science writing to improve science process skills. The learning program covers all field of Klopfer's process skills with various forms of writing; explaining writing, logical writing, critical writing, and creative writing. The learning program has been developed for 5th grade students in the regular classes in order to enhance science process skills as well as knowledge and scientific attitude. Not to miss any process skill or various kinds of writing, we used 3 dimensional frame. The axes of the frames are science process skills, forms of writing, and science curriculum contents. The students are given the final writing theme at the beginning of each chapter. They drill science process skills step by step during the classes, and have a chance to talk each other before the final writing. They practice writing skills from one sentence to full article by degrees. The effect of the program was examined by students' work and TSPS (Test of Science Process Skill). The result showed that 5th grade students had a meaningful progress in science process skills as well as knowledge and scientific attitude. we could confirm it with examining students' work in the class.

Thinking maps를 활용한 과학글쓰기가 초등과학영재의 과학탐구능력 및 창의성에 미치는 효과 (The Effect of Scientific Writing Program using Thinking maps on the Scientific Gifted Children's Scientific Process Skill and Creativity)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the science gifted children's Science Process Skiils and Creativity development by Scientific Writing Program using Thinking maps. To verify research problem, the subject of this study were third-grade students selected from two classes of an elementary scientific gifted students located in Ulsan : the search group is composed of twenty students who were participated in TScientific Writing Program using Thinking maps, and the other is composed of twenty students (comparison group) who were participated in teacher map based instruction in comparison group. Pro-test showed following results: First, the search group showed a significant improvement in the science process skills compared the comparison group. Second, the search group didn't showed a significant improvement in creativity compared in the comparison group. In conclusion, Scientific Writing Program using Thinking maps was more effective than teaching model using the teacher map on science process skill and creativity.

초등학생의 과학일기 유형 분석 및 일기 쓰기의 효과 (The Patterns and the Effects of Science Journal Writing of Elementary School Students)

  • This study was planned to investigate the patterns and the effect of science journal writing on the science process skill and the scientific attitude of elementary school students. This study tried to show their perceptions about science journal writing in order to find out the value of science journal writing. For this purpose, one class of 6th graders in an elementary school was tested. The results from this research show as follows: Science journals are classified into 9 types according to content and form. Writings about curiosity are the most frequent. Science concepts are found in observational journal. Science journals are more effective in the development of the science process skills and scientific attitude. Students are revealed to be in positive aspects through the research about science journal. In conclusion, science journal writing should be emphasized in science education for elementary school students.

초등학생들의 과학 글쓰기에 나타난 과학적 추론의 유형과 수준 (Scientific Reasoning Types and Levels in Science Writings of Elementary School Students)

  • The purpose of this research is to know the scientific reasoning ability of elementary students. In order to find it, 320 elementary students wrote a report about germination of the 700 or 2,000 years old seeds. Their writings were analyzed by scientific writing analysis frameworks, Scientific Reasoning Types and Scientific Reasoning Level Criteria developed by Lim (2018). Minto Pyramid Principles was used to show statements and relations of statements related to scientific reasoning. This paper showed scientific reasoning statements of elementary students about germination of seeds. The characteristics of scientific reasoning of elementary students were as follows. In the process of logical writing by the types of scientific reasoning, many students showed various characteristics and different levels. In the writings based on inductive reasoning, they did not distinguish between common features and differences of cases, and did not derive the rules based on common features and differences of the cases. In the writings based on deductive reasoning, there were cases where the major premise corresponding to the principle or rule was omitted and only the phenomenon was described, or the rule was presented but not connected with the case. In the writings based on abductive reasoning, the ability to selectively use the background knowledge related to the question situation was not sufficient, and borrowing of similar background knowledge, which was commonly used in other situations, was very rare.

초등학교 2학년 슬기로운 생활에서 창의적 과학글쓰기 프로그램이 창의성과 과학적 태도에 미치는 영향 (Effects of a Creative Science Writing Program on 2nd Grade Elementary School Students' Creativity and Scientific Attitude)

  • A creative science writing program was developed, and applied to 2nd grade elementary students. Two 2nd grade elementary school classes in Seoul district were selected for the current study. A Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design was applied. The experimental group adopted the creative science writing program and the control group maintained traditional lectures for 12 classes. TTCT(Torrance Test of Creative Thinking) figural test and a scientific attitude test were conducted on both groups. According to the analysis, TTCT score of the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group (p<.01). Among several subscales of TTCT, elaboration and resistance to premature closure was especially improved. Also, scientific attitude scale of the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group (p<.01). Among subscales of scientific attitude, the creative science writing program was effective on improving students' open-mindedness, critical mindedness, cooperation, voluntariness, and endurance. Gender was not a factor in the improvement of both students' creativity and scientific attitude.

논의활동 전·후의 글쓰기에 나타난 과학글쓰기 능력의 정량적 변화 분석 (A Change of the Science Writing ability before and after Argumentation)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 논의활동 전 후에 작성한 초등학생들의 과학글쓰기에서 나타나는 과학글쓰기 능력의 변화 모습과 논의활동이 과학글쓰기 능력에 미친 영향을 알아보는데 두었다. 이를 위하여 과학적 상황과 사회과학적 상황으로 구성된 9가지 논의 및 과학글쓰기 주제를 개발하고 이를 초등학교 5학년 학생 8명을 대상으로 적용하였다. 논의활동 전 후에 작성한 과학글쓰기의 서술 내용을 과학글쓰기 4가지 목표영역 분석틀에 따라 비교하여 과학글쓰기 능력의 변화를 정량 및 정성적으로 분석하였다. 이번 연구에서 얻어진 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 논의활동 후 과학글쓰기는 논의 전 과학글쓰기에 비하여 과학글쓰기 능력인 4가지 목표영역(과학성, 논리성, 창의성, 표현력)에서 모두 긍정적인 변화가 관찰되었다. 둘째, 과학적 상황 및 사회과학적 상황의 주제에서 모두 긍정적인 변화가 관찰되었다. 특히 논의 및 글쓰기 주제가 친숙할 경우 과학글쓰기 목표영역의 변화가 많았다. 셋째, 학생들의 수준에 따라 변화하는 정도는 다르지만 모든 참여 학생들의 과학글쓰기 능력의 향상되었다. 성취도 수준이 높은 학생일수록 과학글쓰기 능력의 향상이 높았지만 성취도 수준이 낮은 학생에서도 긍정적인 변화가 관찰되었다.

생명 과학I 수업에서 과학 글쓰기 활동이 고등학생의 과학적 사고력에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Science Writing Activities on High School Students' Scientific Thinking Ability in Life Science I Class)

  • 과학교육의 목표가 지식의 습득에서 지식 형성과정을 강조하는 것으로 변화하면서, 학생들에게 과학적 사고 연습의 기회를 제공하는 학습 방법으로 과학 글쓰기가 부각되고 있다. 현행 과학과 교육과정에서는 과학 글쓰기와 토론을 통하여 과학적 사고력, 창의적 사고력 및 의사소통 능력을 함양할 수 있도록 지도할 것을 명시하고 있다. 본 연구는 생명 과학I 수업에서 과학 글쓰기 활동이 학생들의 과학적 사고력에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 생명 과학I 수업에 활용 가능한 6차시의 과학 글쓰기 활동지와 과학적 사고력 평가도구를 개발하였다. 고등학교 1학년 6학급 224명 학생을 대상으로 하여 3개의 학급에는 과학 글쓰기를 활용한 수업을 하고 다른 3개의 학급에서는 강의식 수업을 총 6차시 실시하였다. 생명 과학 I 수업에 과학 글쓰기 활동을 적용한 결과, 학생들의 과학적 사고력이 향상되었고, 과학적 사고력의 영역별로 분석한 결과, 귀납적 사고력, 연역적 사고력, 비판적 사고력, 창의적 사고력의 4가지 범주 모두에서 유의미한 향상을 보였다. 과학적 사고력 영역의 평가 준거별 분석 결과에서는 귀납적 사고력의 경우 평가 준거 '근거'와 '설명'에서 향상되었고, 연역적 사고력에서는 평가 준거 '결론'과 '설명'에서 유의미하게 향상되었다. 비판적 사고력에서는 평가 준거 '주장', '근거', '설명', '반증'에서, 창의적 사고력에서는 '창의성', '융통성', '독창성', '정교성'의 모든 평가 준거에서 유의미한 향상이 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 과학적 사고력 함양을 위한 과학 글쓰기 활동의 지도에 대한 시사점을 제공하며, 다양한 과학 글쓰기 활동을 위한 자료 개발에 도움이 될 것이다.
