This study examined difficulties middle school students have in learning mathematics and proposed a flipped classroom consisting of Khan Academy activities, small-group problem solving, and mathematical modeling to help improve their learning. A mixed-method approach was used to identify difficulties students have in learning mathematics, explore how the flipped classroom helped them reduce the learning difficulties identified, and examine if there were differences in students' mathematics achievement and their affective characteristics after participating in the flipped classroom. Qualitative analyses showed that students had difficulties in understanding mathematical concepts and finding effective ways to learn as well as negative views towards learning mathematics. This study also found that each activity of the flipped classroom had a different impact on student learning. Before class, the Khan Academy activities were most likely to help students understand mathematical concepts. In class, small-group problem solving activities were most helpful for students who had trouble finding effective learning methods and environments. Mathematical modeling activities were most likely effective in changing students' negative views towards mathematics. A quantitative analysis showed that the flipped classroom not only significantly improved the students' mathematics achievement, but also positively affected their confidence and motivation and how much they valued learning mathematics.
This paper analyzes the difficulties with the learning of sequence and series of the second-year students who participated in a year long whole class at the university level. The research was carried out at the end of students' third semester. These students were randomly selected. They were applied to one paper and pencil test containing eight task items on sequence and series. In this study, qualitative method (case study design) was used to explore students' difficulties and misunderstandings in learning sequence and series. Students' responses to the questions were divided into three categories: These were "correct", "partial correct" and "false or no responses". Students' responses to the paper and pencil test were evaluated. The results show that students had difficulties and misunderstandings in series and sequence.

The current research aims to identify the effectiveness of a training program based on digital stories to develop writing skills for students with learning difficulties. The research sample consisted of (12) students with learning difficulties in the fifth and sixth grades, who were chosen intentionally. The results showed the effectiveness of the program and the maintenance of this improvement over time as results showed that there were statistically significant differences at the level (α = 0.05) between the two measurements, before and after, in favor of the post-measurement. The results also showed that there were no statistically significant differences at the level (α = 0.05) between the post and follow-up measurements on the writing skills scale. This indicates the long-term impact of the program. The researchers recommend the need to expand educational programs' adoption of digital stories to develop the skills of students with learning difficulties.
The purpose of this study is to survey and analyze difficulties in teaching and learning elementary school science on the chapter titled 'electric circuit'. 28 elementary school teachers who teach 5th grade science and 73 5th grade students in elementary school were taken part in this survey. The pilot questionnaire was distributed to find out both the degree and the reason of difficulties in teaching and learning. The answers are analyzed with four areas to extract elements which make class difficult; Learner factors (L), Instruction factors (I), Curriculum & textbooks factors (C), and Environment factors (E). The results are as follows. (1) It can be seen that both students and teachers feel the highest difficulty in 7th lesson 'the direction of current', while they felt little difficulty in lesson 3 'conductor and nonconductor' and lesson 8 'the safety of electricity'. (2) The most mentioned reason of difficulties in teaching and learning was Learner factors (L). (3) Teachers felt many difficulties in experimental environment. On the other hands, students didn't think experimental failures as serious trouble. (4) Students felt many difficulties in new terms and hazy concepts or expressions. (5) Teachers felt a lot of difficulties in those from Curriculum & textbooks factors.

This study aimed to identify the effectiveness of the use of distance-evaluation tools and methods among students with learning difficulties from the teachers' point of view, to achieve this goal. A scale was built, and the psychometric characteristics were validated. It consisted, in its final form, of 17 items distributed on four axes, in addition to three open questions. It was applied to a random sample of (149) teachers of students with learning difficulties in Makkah Region. The results showed that teachers' keenness to encourage students with learning difficulties, so that they would not feel frustrated with the distance learning process. It was also evident that teachers did not use achievement portfolios in the evaluation process. In connection with the appropriate evaluation methods, the majority indicated the use of work sheets and visual evaluation methods that rely on audio and visual skills, such as presenting videos, pictures, audio and games, and applying short objective tests. Among the proposals to improve evaluation methods and tools: Individual evaluation, attention to individual treatment, obligating personal attendance of students to school, splitting the required tasks, and not increasing the skills required to be mastered. As for the obstacles that teachers face: Lack of time, difficulty in communicating with students with distance learning difficulties and problems related to the Internet such as interruption, weakness, or lack of availability.
The purpose of this study was to investigate and analysis the elementary teachers' and students' views about the difficulties in teaching and learning in geology units of elementary school science. For the purpose of this study, semi-structured interviews were conducted individually with seventeen elementary teachers who have serviced more than three years, and with sixteen elementary students located in Cheongju City. The interview questions were developed through Seidman's step to acquire a reliability in the interview data with triangulation, then in-depth interview questions were modified and completed through pre-interview after constructing the trustworthiness of interviewees. In-depth interviews were performed in applying the analytic induction method and the interviews were recorded. From the interviews, we found that elementary teachers' views about the difficulties in teaching geology units; teachers' inner difficulties, the difficulty of lab activities, the problems of rock samples, the problems of curriculum in geology units, the difficulty of the geological feature, the problems of the cramming education, the lack of the opportunity for the speciality, and so on. And the students have the views about the difficulties in learning geology units; the difficulty of the unit contents understanding, the problems of learning by heart, the lack of the interest, the lack of materials, the problems of rock samples, the difficulty of the field learning, and so on. In recently, attracting foreign students are very active in lots of universities of South Korea. According to trend, foreign students who are studying in Korea have increased steadily. The programs to support and help them for adaptation of the university and academic success are rising though, on account of language barrier, it seems not easy to adapt to those people who finished studying korean language training that roles incubator and entered their major. More over, to expect personal training for them by professors is also difficult because of short of educational or executive and bankroll support in reality. Therefore it became a social issue about managing foreign students of South Korea. This study aimed to analyse the difficulties of learning from chinese international student's view. For this, we analysed focus group interview which intended 16 chinese foreign students and the collected data through reflective journal record using Nvivo program. In the results of focus group interview, learning difficulties of chinese foreign students are itemized 4 sections of personal aspect, environmental aspect, educational contents' aspect and educational methodic aspect. It is subdivided 11 sections and identified of requirement for studying support corresponding each part of difficulties. This research finding will be able to expect to provide a suggestion to looking for options for learning support plan of chinese foreign students.
The purpose of this study was to investigate implications of self-directed learning experiments in elementary science education through understanding elementary school students' awareness of their experiences in self-directed learning experiments. Twenty students joined the school science club voluntarily and conducted self-directed learning experiments. We collected data through observation of the experiments, interviews, and questionnaires. The students who participated in the club showed high satisfaction with self-directed learning experiments. The participants were aware that their scientific interest and knowledge, and the confidence in conducting experiments were increased. The students felt positive about the inquiry process of conducting self-directed learning experiments with their own subjects. They also felt a sense of achievement in attempting their experiments in defiance of several failures. The participants realized that the self-directed inquires led to increased declarative and procedural knowledge of science. The students stated that they had some difficulties in coping with the different results contrary to expectations and preparing laboratory materials and instruments. Nonetheless, they showed the promotion of their scientific literacy during overcoming those difficulties. We suggest that self-directed learning experiments can be a more effective way in science learning to make students experience the nature of science than existing school experiments. This can be implemented through a creative experience activities such as science clubs.
