  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of convergence gifted students through the their perception of the differences about scientists between Science class and Convergence class in gifted science education center. Consequently, this article reports that there are differences in the perception about scientists was distinction between applicants of Convergence and Science class. Science class applicants mainly recognized scientists as pure scientists, but Convergence class applicants recognized scientist were including mathematician, artist, architect, etc. Also Convergence class applicants thought that affective domain including 'effort', 'patience', 'interest' was more important that Science class applicants. On the other hand, when they described the scientists, Science class applicants knew their achievements as scientists more specifically than Convergence class. And to conclude, the characteristics were different between Convergence and Science class applicants in gifted science education center. Based on the result of this study, this paper suggests the following: Firstly, conceptual study is urgent about convergence gifted students in their definition and characteristics. Secondly, information regarding the criteria to select student for convergence class in gifted science education center. Finally, when teaching convergence gifted students, attention should be paid to their characteristics such affective domain.

  • Recently, the distance education has been rapidly proliferated with the rapid growth of the Internet and high speed networks. There has been relatively much research with regard to online lecture (teaching and studying) tools for the distance education, compared to the virtual laboratory tools (for self-study and experiments). In this paper, we design and implement a web-based simulation tool, named as SimDraw, for the virtual laboratory in the distance education. To apply the web-based simulation technology into the distance education, some requirements should be met; firstly, the user interface of the simulation should be very easy for students. Secondly, the simulation should be very portable to be run on various computer systems of remote students. Finally, the simulation program on remote computers should be very thin so that students can easily install the program onto their computers. To meet these requirements, SimDraw adopts the client/server architecture; the client program contains only model development and animation functions so that no installation of a client program onto student's system is required, and it can be implemented by a Java applet in Web browsers. The server program supports client programs by offering the functions such as remote compiling, model storing, library management, and user management. For the evaluation of SimDraw, we show the simulation process using the example experimentation of the RIP(Routing Information Protocol) Internet routing protocol.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the level of moral sensitivity, critical thinking disposition and perceived ethical confidence, as well as to identify the factors influencing the perceived ethical confidence in nursing students. The study evaluated 170 nursing students in D Province from May 16-20, 2016. Data were analyzed using a t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and multiple regression. The mean score of the perceived ethical confidence was $3.54({\pm}0.51)$, the moral sensitivity was $4.92({\pm}0.59)$ and the critical thinking disposition was $3.45({\pm}0.39)$. There were positive correlations between the perceived ethical confidence and moral sensitivity (r=0.410, p<0.001) and critical thinking disposition (r=0.523, p<0.001). The significant factors influencing the perceived ethical confidence were moral sensitivity and critical thinking disposition, which explained 33.2% of the variance in perceived ethical confidence. Based on these findings, programs and teaching methods that develop moral sensitivity and critical thinking disposition are necessary for college nursing students to promote perceived ethical confidence.

The online survey contained questions pertaining to goals, schedule, contents, arrangement, atmosphere, environment, evaluation, and satisfaction regarding the clerkship. The focus group interview addressed the schedule and achievements of the program. Scores were reported on a 5-point Likert scale. Most students were highly satisfied with the overall quality of the clerkship. The structured interview results showed that 97.6% of the clerkship program was executed according to the schedule. The focus group reported a perfect score of 5 points on several measures including: accomplishment of the educational goals of the family medicine clerkship, providing many chances to obtain medical histories and perform physical examinations on real patients, experience with various symptoms and diseases, positive attitudes of faculty members when teaching, notification of the guidelines for evaluation beforehand, well-constructed and effective clerkship schedule, and reflection of student feedback. However, the focus group gave low scores on: support for health accidents of students, access to patient information, enough opportunities to practice clinical skills, appropriate rest facilities for students, and fairness of clerkship evaluation process. In conclusion, the structured evaluation performed after the 3-week clerkship program motivated students and helped them ensure an efficient clerkship. This structured evaluation also suggested basic data to make the professor who is subject of the assessment. This study shows that structured assessment is an effective method which can be used to improve the quality of clerkships.
