Analysis of Mathematical Structure to Identify Students' Understanding of a Scientific Concept: pH Value and scale

  • Many topics in science, especially, abstract concepts, relationships, properties, entities in invisible ranges, are described in mathematical representations such as formula, numbers, symbols, and graphs. Although the mathematical representation is an essential tool to better understand scientific phenomena, the mathematical element is pointed out as a reason for learning difficulty and losing interests in science. In order to further investigate the relationship between mathematics knowledge and science understanding, the current study examined 793 high school students' understanding of the pH value. As a measure of the molar concentration of hydrogen ions in the solution, the pH value is an appropriate example to explore what a student mathematical structure of logarithm is and how they interpret the proportional relationship of numbers for scientific explanation. To the end, students were asked to write their responses on a questionnaire that is composed of nine content domain questions and four affective domain questions. Data analysis of this study provides information for the relationship between student understanding of the pH value and related mathematics knowledge.

  • 본 논문에서는 특수교육대상 장애학생이 모바일 애플리케이션을 이용하는데 필요한 접근성 준수 실태를 조사하고 개선방안을 제시하는 것이다. 특히, 신체적 장애로 모바일 애플리케이션을 사용하는데 어려움이 많은 시각, 청각 및 상지지체장애인 등에게 도움이 되는 미래부에서 고시한 모바일 애플리케이션 접근성 지침15개 항목 중에서 12개 항목을 대상으로 전문가 평가를 실시하여 접근성을 준수하지 않은 모바일 애플리케이션의 문제점을 분석하고 개선방안을 도출하여 장애인이 모바일 애플리케이션을 이용할 수 있는 방안을 제시하였다.

고등학교 수학 교사가 학생 지도에서 겪는 어려움 (Difficulties of High School Mathematics Teachers in Guiding Students)

  • 본 연구는 6개 시 도 36명의 고등학교 수학교사를 대상으로 학생 지도에서 겪는 어려움을 탐색하고, 교사의 성별, 직위별, 경력별로 어려움에 대한 인식의 차이가 있는지 확인하는 것이 목적이다. 그 결과 수업 요인 중 학생 지도에서 겪는 교사들의 어려움은 학생 평가, 교수 학습 방법 순으로 나타났으며, 교사 집단별 평균 차이 검증은 대체로 통계적으로 유의한 평균 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 수학 교과 내용학과 교육학이 학생 지도에 도움이 된 정도는 선행연구와 달리 두 가지 모두 다소 낮게 나타났다.

초등학생과 중학생의 과학긍정경험 향상 요인에 대한 질적 탐구 (Qualitative Inquiry on Factor for Improving Elementary and Secondary Students' Positive Experiences about Science)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the factor for improving elementary and secondary students' positive experiences about science (PES). In-depth interviews with 32 students and 8 teachers from 8 elementary and secondary Science Core schools were conducted to explore the factors for improving the student's PES. The analysis of the results reveal that the eight key factors which had a decisive impact on a student's PES were 'practice-centered exploratory activities', 'student-led class', 'positive and professional feedback', 'construction of knowledge through exploration', 'class considering student's interest and aptitude', 'use of materials related to real life', 'smooth communication and collaboration in group activities', and 'appropriate difficulty in learning content'. There were also five environmental factors that affected these key factors: 'teacher's professionalism for science classes', 'science class environment', 'teacher community in unit schools', 'change in curriculum', and 'scientific activities other than regular classes'. Based on these results, the practical implications for improving the student's PES are suggested.

초등학생을 위한 소음 환경교육 프로그램의 개발과 적용 (The Development and Application of Noise Environmental Education Program for the Elementary Student)

  • This study was concentrated on the development of the effective noise environmental education program(NEEP) for elementary student. And through this program, the student who is remaining as a spector or has not active attitude for noise problems will be encouraged to solve the troubles spontaneously. The object of this study was the two classes in H elementary school where is near to the Daegu international airport. One class that is a group for experiment has five NEEP lessons during five weeks in the time for the creative discretional activities. The other class, which was compared with the experimental group was given no lessons. NEEP was made on the bases that are the contents related with noise in 7th elementary education policy and the data developed by previous researchers. This program is containing basic concepts for noise and the effects of noise problems on human body or studying in class. And after using NEEP, students became more sensitive for noise environments than previous. And also students showed the positive attitude for solving noise troubles. It was meaningful in the level of p<.001 that the result of noise knowledge and awareness in the pre-post test within experiment group. However, all of the results in comparison group didn't represent statistically meaningful difference. And there were meaningful differences between experiment and comparison group after carrying out NEEP. In the area of noise knowledge and awareness, there were clearly meaningful results in the level of p<.001. Although the difference in noise attitude was a little, it was analyzed to have not a meaningful result. What suggested for researches in future are as follows. First, because until now the concrete research for the elementary student who exposed to noise and experienced a difficulty in hearing is deficient, many studies are needed. Second, NEEP with more lessons is required because the change of effective attitude needs long term. Third, due to the student who exposed to noise generally has low ability for concentration, NEEP compensated with activities is needed.

정의하기와 이름짓기를 통한 도형의 이해 고찰 -초등학교 4학년 도형 영역을 중심으로- (A Study on Defining and Naming of the Figures in the Elementary Mathematics - focusing to 4th grade Geometric Domains-)

  • 초등학교 4학년 수학은 도형 영역에서 다양한 개념들이 동시에 등장하는 시기로, 특히 삼각형이나 사각형 등과 같은 평면도형의 경우 그 개념이 총체적으로 학습되는 시기이다. 본 연구는 초등학교 4학년 학생들을 대상으로 그들이 학습한 도형 개념들에 대한 이해 정도를 파악하기 위해 '정의하기' 서술형 평가를 실시하고, 또한 그들이 갖고 있는 비형식적인 지식을 살펴보기 위한 '이름짓기'(naming) 서술형 평가를 실시하였다. 이를 통해 학생들이 이해하고 있는 도형의 개념정의와 개념이미지를 분석하고, 각각의 특징 및 반복해서 등장하는 오 개념과 그 원인을 분석하여 도형을 학습하고 지도하는 과정에서 생각해볼 유의점을 제안하고 있다. 더불어 학생들의 이름짓기 활동을 통해 도형의 어떤 요소에 가장 먼저 주목하는가를 분석함으로써 이 과정에서 그들이 인식하지 못하거나 빈도가 낮게 나타난 수학적 성질과 개념을 살펴보고 동시에 학교수학에서 도형 학습을 통해 갖게 되는 비형식적 지식을 고찰함으로써 도형 영역의 학습 지도를 위한 개선 방안을 제시하고 있다.

일부 대학생의 구강질환으로 인한 활동제한실태 연구 (A Study on the Activity Limitation Realities Caused by Oral Disease in Some University Students)

  • 본 연구는 대학생의 구강질환으로 인한 활동제한실태를 조사하고, 그 관련요인을 분석하여 구강건강향상을 위한 기초자료를 제공하고자 시도하였다. 연구결과, 대학생의 활동제한경험율은 24.1%, 평균활동제한일수는 0.44일이었다. 인구사회학적 특성에서는 주거형태, 개인적 특성에서는 일상생활의 분주도, 학비조달의 어려움, 구강진료이용 시 시간적 부담, 구강진료이용 시 교통편의 어려움이 대학생의 활동제한과 관련이 있었다. 학비조달의 어려움을 느끼는 경우에서 활동제한경험 및 와병경험, 학업수행지장경험, 학업손실경험의 가능성이 높게 나타났으며, 또한 구강진료이용 시 교통편의 어려움을 느끼는 경우에서 학업수행지장 및 학업손실을 경험할 가능성이 높게 나타났다. 이에 보다 체계화된 사회적 구강건강도를 확립하고, 구강건강증진을 높이기 위한 국가적 관심과 지원이 절실히 요구된다.

초등학교 과학과 지질 단원 교수-학습 활동에서 교사와 학생이 겪는 어려움 (The Analysis of the Teachers' and Students' Views about the Difficulties within Teaching & Learning Activity on Geology Units in Elementary School Science)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate and analysis the elementary teachers' and students' views about the difficulties in teaching and learning in geology units of elementary school science. For the purpose of this study, semi-structured interviews were conducted individually with seventeen elementary teachers who have serviced more than three years, and with sixteen elementary students located in Cheongju City. The interview questions were developed through Seidman's step to acquire a reliability in the interview data with triangulation, then in-depth interview questions were modified and completed through pre-interview after constructing the trustworthiness of interviewees. In-depth interviews were performed in applying the analytic induction method and the interviews were recorded. From the interviews, we found that elementary teachers' views about the difficulties in teaching geology units; teachers' inner difficulties, the difficulty of lab activities, the problems of rock samples, the problems of curriculum in geology units, the difficulty of the geological feature, the problems of the cramming education, the lack of the opportunity for the speciality, and so on. And the students have the views about the difficulties in learning geology units; the difficulty of the unit contents understanding, the problems of learning by heart, the lack of the interest, the lack of materials, the problems of rock samples, the difficulty of the field learning, and so on. Based on the results, the study suggested that an interesting lab activities should be included in the geology units and taught in the geological field trip to help elementary school students more fully comprehend contents of the geology units.

한방부인과 임상실습교육에서 초음파 팬텀의 활용과 효과 (The Use and Educational Effect of Ultrasonic Phantom in Korean Medicine Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinical Practice Education)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to analyze educational effect of ultrasound examination training with ultrasonic phantom in the department of Korean Medicine Obstetrics and Gynecology. Methods: All 4th grade students in 2021 and 2022 of school of Korean Medicine, Dong-Shin University must be trained in the department of Korean Medicine Obstetrics and Gynecology according to ultrasound examination training guideline including Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). After completing ultrasound examination training, we distributed questionnaires to them about a confidence before OSCE and after OSCE, difficulty in using ultrasound, ultrasound reading, difficulty with probe manipulation and computer operation, ultrasound understanding, clinical usefulness. And then, we analyzed the related factors including descriptive statistics, frequency analysis, student's t-test and paired t-test by SPSS 12.0. Results: Confidence in using ultrasound showed differences among students by gender and year, but it was not statistically significant. The difficulty of ultrasound use and ultrasound reading was at a moderate level, and the gender difference was not significant, and the difference between the practical students by year was statistically significant. The difficulty of the operation of the ultrasonic probe was at a normal level, and the difference between the students in practice by gender and year was not statistically significant. Although they answered that they had a very good understanding of the use of ultrasound, there was a gender difference and it was statistically significant, and practical students by year was not statistically significant. They answered that the effect on clinical use was very sufficient, but it was not statistically significant. The appropriateness of the practice time was evaluated at a moderate level. Conclusions: The use and educational effect of ultrasound examination using ultrasonic phantom in the department of Korean Medicine Obstetrics and Gynecology clinical practice education was very effective.

중학생의 창의적 사고능력과 자기 효능감, 자기 결정성 동기 간의 관계 (The Relationship Among Self-efficacy, Self-determination and Creative Thinking Ability of Middle School Student)

  • 본 연구는 중학생의 창의적 사고능력과 자기효능감, 자기결정성 동기 요인 간의 상관 및 설명력을 알아보고자 실시되었다. 이를 위해 서울지역의 중학생 212명을 대상으로 창의적 사고능력, 자기효능감, 자기 결정성 동기 검사를 실시하였다. 수집된 자료를 활용하여 상관관계, 회귀 분석을 실시한 결과는 다음과 같다. 창의적 사고능력은 자기효능감과 자기결정성 동기의 하위요인들과 유의한 정적상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 창의적 사고능력을 가장 잘 설명해주는 자기효능감의 하위요인은 과제난이도 선호와 자기조절 효능감 요인으로 나타났으며 자기결정성 동기에서는 내적동기인 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과로 중학생들의 창의적 사고능력을 증진시키는데 과제난이도선호, 자기조절효능감, 내적동기의 중요성을 알 수 있었다.
