The purpose of this study were to investigate and no investigate and to compare perceptions of home economics teachers and educators regarding home economics student teaching pratice, thereby to provide fundamental information for improving home economics student teaching pratice. The specific objectives of this study were at follows. 1. To determine and compare the perceptions of home economics teachers and teacher educators regarding the importance and achievement of (1) the objectives of student teaching, (2) the experiences of student teaching, (3) procedures for selecting cooperating teachers, (4) roles and responsibilities of cooperating teachers, and (5) roles and responsibilities of university supervisors. 2. To identify problems and revisions about home economics student teaching pratice suggested by home economics teachers and teacher educators. The subjects in this study included 90 home economics teachers in 500 girls’middle schools and 13 teacher educators in 21 universities with home economics education department in Korea. For this study, the Habedi’s instruments were used through testing validity and reliability. The data of this study were analyzed by using mean, standard deviation, t-test, and content analysis. The results of this study were as follow;1. The areas with the difference of perceptions of the importance between the two groups were objectives of student teaching, experiences of student teaching, procedures for selecting cooperating teachers, and roles and responsibilities of cooperating teachers. 2. Regarding problems about home economics students teaching practice, home economics teachers indicated difficulty in performing adequate student teaching because of reduction in class hours, and lack of student teachers’positive attitude in performing student teaching, while teacher educators indicated having reluctancy of cooperating school to admit student teachers, and difference in experiences of student teachers because of disparity among cooperating schools. As solutions about the problems of home economics student teaching practice, home economics teachers suggested that student teaching course should be limited to the students qualified for teaching and that class observation and teaching practice in real class should be emphasized, while teacher educators suggested that student teaching should be performed adequately by providing institutions to control student teaching practice teacher should be made efficient by examining the scales of cooperating schools.
The primary purpose of the study was to investigate the degree of difficulty and the causes of the difficulties in science instruction reported by elementary teachers and students. The secondary purpose was to suggest the effective methods to both of them to improve the efficiency of science instruction. For this study, the survey was carried out on 322 students and 156 teachers in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. The questionnaires consisted of interest, difficulty and its factors. The results of this investigation are summarized as follows; 1. Teachers had relatively higher interest than students in science instruction content(textbook). Furthermore, the units that teachers showed interest differed from those that students had. This means that there is a significant difference of interest in instruction process between teachers and students. 2. Teachers felt much higher difficulty than students in the content of science instruction. This shows that the degree of interest might have little relation with that of difficulty, and that teaching of science seemed more difficult than teaming. Moreover, there was a difference of difficulty in the units between the teachers and students. The result shows a distinctive difference of difficulty in 8 units of the 3rd grade, 9 units n the 4th grade, and 12 units in the 5th grade (p<.05, p<.001, p<.005, respectively). It means that the difficulty depended on the units. 3. Students responded that they are responsible for difficulty factors of teaming, otherwise teachers thought that students are responsible for it, when the factors were divided into student factor, teacher factor, and curriculum factor. 4. Students demanded many experiments in the lab as well as easy and interesting instructions in order to reduce the degree of difficulty and to improve the condition of science instructions. However, teachers demanded the expansion of experimental equipments and materials as well as the improvement of the lab condition.
The importance of education is greatly emphasized in the IT era. However, teachers have to deal with teaching work as well as increasing non-educationalchores. One of those chores is student counseling. Nowadays, teachers have considerable difficulty in consulting students because they cannot visit their home and don't have enough information on students. Furthermore, students are not willing to participate in school counseling since they think school counseling is not of much help and is just time-consuming. Most of the current school counseling is focused on matters related to entrance into a school of higher grade such as choice of college. But, students need counseling on matters regarding their ordinary life. This paper suggests a web-based student-counseling system that may solve this problem. The paper identifies core requirements for the web-based student-counseling system, discusses its design and implementation and shows it is more effective than the current ordinary school counseling by experimenting on a group of students with this system.
Background: 6-year College of Pharmacy curriculum had started in Korea, and the students in college of pharmacy are supposed to have student practice in the hospital pharmacy, community pharmacy, pharmaceutical company and administration to experience the role of pharmacists in advance. However, despite Korean Association of Pharmacy Education provided its own teaching plan, most Pharmacy Schools and the hospital pharmacy have difficulty in performing the desirable student practice program because they seldom experienced it. So, we reported the student practice program in the hospital pharmacy conducted by Yonsei University College of Pharmacy prior to the other numerous universities and the evaluation of survey on the student pharmacy practice program. Method: Severance Hospital, Gangnam Severance Hospital and National Health Insurance Service Ilsan Hospital took part in the student pharmacy practice program of Yonsei University. Students took 8-week pharmacy practice in Severance Hospital or Gangnam Severance Hospital plus 4-week pharmacy practice in National Health Insurance Service Ilsan Hospital. Also, students had once-a-week presentation class at school. A survey was conducted to evaluate the student practice program. Results: The presentation class was considerably helpful to share their own experiences at different practice sites in different hospitals, but there were some disadvantages that students could not experience the specific pharmacy practice site on the day of once-a-week presentation at school and so on. The results of the survey on the student practice program reported that students were satisfied with the overall practice program and presentation class at school. Also, they answered that the student practice program in the hospital pharmacy was significantly helpful for planning of the future career. Conclusion: Through the performance of the student practice program in Yonsei University, the adjustment of the student practice program in the hospital is planned to provide better experience of practice to the students and the results will be helpful for the student practice in the hospital of the other colleges of pharmacy.
Recently, the student internship has been introduced in medical schools as a way of preparing students with training experience and medical knowledge by performing clinical practice. This study discusses student internship management and ways to operate the internship effectively. Catholic University of Daegu School of Medicine has set up a 6-week internship program for fourth-year undergraduate students. In most of the sections, students have shown their satisfaction, particularly when they have received appropriate feedback and attention from their professors. The students found that performing the evaluation and treatment of patients and individual chart recording were informative and helpful. However, they felt a lack of basic knowledge and clinical skills and had difficulty in understanding their roles and in time management. The success of an internship depends on the passion and interest that professors show for their students along with active support from the other faculty and thoughtful consideration of patients and all their friends and family members. In addition, with growing awareness of the need for the student internship, it is necessary that the school executive provide financial and administrative support to the faculty and staff, clarify roles and the work needed to perform the tasks, ensure substantiality of the individual program with professors or departments, provide enough preliminary courses, and monitor outcomes and reflection.
The aim of this current study is to survey and analyze the degree of concern and difficult of elementary school teachers in elementary school science classes, and providing the results to teachers as a basic reference to improve their scientific specialties. As a result, firstly, the degree of concern of elementary school teacher in science class is more than normal level. Secondly, the degree of concern in science class differs dependent on environmental factors. Next, the degree of difficulty about science class was under normal level. Among area surveyed, physical and psychological environment were lower compared with other areas, and the difficulty in evaluation of class result was comparably higher than others. At fourth, teacher's degree of difficulty in science class was dependent on environment factors, but not on gender. Finally, there was reverse correlation between degree of concern and the degree of difficulty of elementary school teachers in science class. Further, the degree of concern in student knowledge showed more significant reverse correlation with all of area tested.
The purpose of this study is to analyze whether the required cognitive levels of the current 6th graders' science textbooks conform to the children's cognitive levels and to examine the students' sensed psychological difficulty of the current science textbooks. The eighty five students (boy: 39, girl: 46) from one elementary school were participated in this study. The results of the study are as follows. First, the 2/3 out of the contents in the six graders' science textbooks require concrete level of operation and the 1/3 out of the contents in the textbooks requires the formal level of operation. So the 70% students at the concrete operational level are likely to undergo difficulties with the 1/3 contents in the textbooks. Second, the students' psychological difficulty on the science textbooks is relatively low (approximately two out of five points) and there is not any special pattern between the cognitive level of the textbooks and the students' psychological difficulty of the textbooks.
This study was designed to assess demotivation factors and compare the factor between two secondary school student groups. It furthermore examined how the factors related to students' L2 proficiency. A 31-item questionnaire was completed by 407 junior (JH) and senior high school (SH) students. Five factors were extracted through the principal axis factoring: Teachers' competence and teaching styles, Dissatisfaction with English classes and grading system, Difficulty of learning English, Lack of motivation and interest in learning English, and Inadequate learning contents. Although both JH and SH students did not perceive their English teacher as a strong attribution of demotivation, Difficulty of learning English and Dissatisfaction with English classes and grading system were the two strongest demotivating factors. When compared the overall mean scores of each factor between JH and SH groups, significant differences were found in all factors except Factor 4, with SH students reporting stronger demotivation. JH students attributed their demotivation to Difficulty of learning English, while SH students attributed that to Dissatisfaction with English classes and grading system. Both groups tended to attribute their demotivation to external forces. The study also showed that several demotivation factors related negatively to L2 proficiency.
The purposes of this study were to investigate the creative science problem solving (CSPS) process amongst scientifically-gifted students and average students through the qualitative think-aloud research method, and to compare the differences in their CSP, scientific knowledge, scientific process skills, creative thinking, and finally, the affective domain used in their CSPS. For the purposes of this study, two scientifically-gifted 6th grade students and one average student were selected. The results show that one gifted student with good creative thinking skills exhibited better performance in CSPS than the other gifted student, who had the highest level of scientific knowledge. In the case of the average student, in spite of her high level of factual knowledge, she had difficulty in proceeding in CSPS due to her shallow scientific knowledge along with her low level of understanding of the given problem. This study highlights the importance of considering the factors which influence successful CSPS and which can play an important role in the education of scientifically-gifted children. These factors were identified as scientific knowledge, understanding of the scientific process, creative thinking, the affective domain, and science problem solving skills.
