  • This paper unveils a new computer based stabilization methodology for automated modeling analysis and its experimental verification for corrosion in reinforced concrete structures under the effect of varying oxygen concentration. Various corrosion cells with different concrete compositions under four different environmental conditions (air dry, submerged, 95% R.H and alternate wetting-drying) have been investigated under controlled laboratory conditions. The results of these laboratory tests were utilized with an automated computer-aided simulation model. This model based on mass and energy stabilization through the porous media for the corrosion process was coupled with modified stabilization methodology. By this coupling, it was possible to predict, maintain and transfer the influence of oxygen concentration on the corrosion rate of the reinforcement in concrete under various defined conditions satisfactorily. The variation in oxygen concentration available for corrosion reaction has been taken into account simulating the actual field conditions such as by varying concrete cover depth, relative humidity, water-cement ratio etc. The modeling task has been incorporated by the use of a computer based durability model as a finite element computational approach for stabilizing the effect of oxygen on corrosion of reinforced concrete structures.

  • Reliability Centered Maintenance(RCM) was initially developed for the commercial aviation industry in the late 1960s and now is equally applicable to a variety of equipment other than aircraft. RCM is a method for establishing a preventive maintenance program which will efficiently and effectively allow the achivement of the required safety and availability levels of equipment and structures. RCM provides for the use of a decision logic tree to identify applicable and effective preventive maintenance requirements for equipment and structures. The end result of working through the decision logic is a judgement as to the necessity of performing a maintenance task. In this paper, we provide guiding principles based on IEC 60300-3-11 for RCM analysis methods and operational method of structure and equipment.

  • Realistic deformation of computer simulated anatomical structures is computationally intensive. As a result, simple methodologies not based in continuum mechanics have been employed for achieving real time deformation of virtual reality. Since the graphical interpolations and simple spring models commonly used in these simulations are not based on the biomechanical properties of tissue structures, these "quick and dirty"methods typically do not accurately represent the complex deformations and force-feedback interactions that can take place during surgery. Finite Element(FE) analysis is widely regarded as the most appropriate alternative to these methods. However, because of the highly computational nature of the FE method, its direct application to real time force feedback and visualization of tissue deformation has not been practical for most simulations. If the mathematics are optimized through pre-processing to yield only the information essential to the simulation task run-time computation requirements can be drastically reduced. To apply the FEM, We examined a various in verse matrix method and a deformed material model is produced and then the graphic deformation with this model is able to force. As our simulation program is reduced by the real-time calculation and simplification because the purpose of this system is to transact in the real time.

  • With the recent surge in YouTube usage, there has been a proliferation of user-generated videos where individuals evaluate cosmetics. Consequently, many companies are increasingly utilizing evaluation videos for their product marketing and market research. However, a notable drawback is the manual classification of these product review videos incurring significant costs and time. Therefore, this paper proposes a deep learning-based cosmetics search algorithm to automate this task. The algorithm consists of two networks: One for detecting candidates in images using shape features such as circles, rectangles, etc and Another for filtering and categorizing these candidates. The reason for choosing a Two-Stage architecture over One-Stage is that, in videos containing background scenes, it is more robust to first detect cosmetic candidates before classifying them as specific objects. Although Two-Stage structures are generally known to outperform One-Stage structures in terms of model architecture, this study opts for Two-Stage to address issues related to the acquisition of training and validation data that arise when using One-Stage. Acquiring data for the algorithm that detects cosmetic candidates based on shape and the algorithm that classifies candidates into specific objects is cost-effective, ensuring the overall robustness of the algorithm.

  • Due to their excellent optical and electrochemical properties, conjugated polymers have attracted much attention over the last two decades and employed to opto-electrical devices. In particular, conjugated polymers possess many attractive features that make them suitable for a variety of sensing task. For example, their delocalized electronic structures can be strongly modified by varying the surrounding environment, which significantly affected molecular energy level. In other word, conjugated polymers can detect and transduce the environmental information into a fluorescence signal. Conjugated polymers also display amplified quenching compared to small molecule counterparts. This amplified fluorescence quenching is attributed to the delocalization and migration of the excitons along the conjugated polymer backbones. Long backbones of conjugated polymer provide the transporting path for electron as a conduit, allowing that excitons migrate rapidly into quencher site along the backbone. This is often referred to as the molecular wire effect or antenna effect. Moreover, structures of conjugated polymers can be easily tailored to adjust solubility, absorption/emission properties, and regulation of electron/energy transfer. Based on this versatility, conjugated polymers have been utilized to many novel sensory platforms as a promising material. In this tutorial, I will highlight a variety of fluorescence sensors base on conjugated polymer and explain their sensory mechanism together with selected examples from reference literatures.

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of task presentation methods (animation vs. picture) on verb naming abilities as a function of verb argument structures for normal elderly adults. Participants were categorized into the two groups: animation group(n=21) vs. picture group(n=21). Data for the animation group were from obtained from Sung and Choi (2012). Percent of accuracy for the verb naming task served as a dependent measure for statistical analyses. After the years of education was controlled as a covariate, a two-way mixed ANOVA was performed with the group as a between-subject factor and the argument structure(1-, 2-, and 3-place) as a within-subject factor. Results revealed that there was a significant interaction between the group and argument structure, whereas there were no main effects for either of the factors. The animation group performed better than the picture group for one-place verb, whereas the opposite pattern was observed for the three-place verbs. The results suggested that the presentation methods are one of the critical factors that influenced verb naming abilities in elderly adults.

  • It is well known that the incidence angle of seismic excitation has an influence on the structural response of buildings, and this effect can be more significant in the case of near-fault signals. However, current seismic codes do not include detailed requirements regarding the direction of application of the seismic action and they have only recently introduced specific provisions about near-fault earthquakes. Thus, engineers have the task of evaluating all the relevant directions or the most critical conditions case by case, in order to avoid underestimating structural demand. To facilitate the identification of the most critical incidence angle, this paper presents a procedure which makes use of a two-degree of freedom model for representing a building. The proposed procedure makes it possible to avoid the extensive computational effort of multiple dynamic analyses with varying angles of incidence of ground motion excitation, which is required if a spatial multi-degree of freedom model is used for representing a building. The procedure is validated through the analysis of two case studies consisting of an eight- and a six-storey reinforced concrete frame building, selected as representative of existing structures located in Italy. A set of 124 near-fault ground motion records oriented along 8 incidence angles, varying from 0 to 180 degrees, with increments of 22.5 degrees, is used to excite the structures. Comparisons between the results obtained with detailed models of the two structures and the proposed procedure are used to show the accuracy of the latter in the prediction of the most critical angle of seismic incidence.

  • A steel plated is typically composed of plate panels. The overall failure of the structure is certainly affected and can be governed by the bulking and plastic collapse of these individual members. In the ultimate limit state design, therefore, a primary task is to accurately calculate the buckling and plastic collapse strength of such structural members. Structural elements making up steel palated structures do not work separately, resulting in high degree of redundancy and complexity in contrast to those of steel framed structures. To enable the behavior of such structures to be analyzed, simplifications or idealizations must essentially be made considering the accuracy need and degree of complexity of the analysis to be used. Generally the more complex the analysis the greater is the accuracy that may be obtained. The aim of this study is the investigation of the effect of the tripping behaviour including section characteristic for a plate under uniaxial compression. For this purpose of study, in used elasto-plasticity deformation FEA method are used for this study.
