  • In February 2014, the rudder upper stock and the nut of a passenger ship were released and an accident occurred. That accident occurred because the steering gear of passenger ships that was intended to move many passengers. The accidents due to steering gear was zero according to 2010-2016 statistics. There is no rules prevent loosening of the upper rudder nut in "Ship Safety Act" and "Structural standard of steel ship". Since the accident, the Korea register has been revised to the joining method in Part 5 Chapter 7 of the rules in the classification of steel ships. In the field survey of 12 passenger ships operating on Mokpo and surrounding islands, the welding method was applied in the cases as the fastening method. The fastening type was equipped with two C-type structures. It was structured to be difficult to access. The NAS 3350 test was conducted to investigate ways to prevent homologous accident considering the characteristic of passenger ships that need to lift or unload rides once a year.

  • Changes in surface morphology and roughness of dc sputtered ZnO:Al/Ag back reflectors by varying the deposition temperature and their influence on the performance of flexible silicon thin film solar cells were systematically investigated. By increasing the deposition temperature from $25^{\circ}C$ to $500^{\circ}C$, the grain size of Ag thin films increased from 100 nm to 1000 nm and the grain size distribution became irregular, which resulted in an increment of surface roughness from 6.6 nm to 46.6 nm. Even after the 100 nm thick ZnO:Al film deposition, the surface morphology and roughness of the ZnO:Al/Ag double structured back reflectors were the same as those of the Ag layers, meaning that the ZnO:Al films were deposited conformally on the Ag films without unnecessary changes in the surfacefeatures. The diffused reflectance of the back reflectors improved significantly with the increasing grain size and surface roughness of the Ag films, and in particular, an enhanced diffused reflectance in the long wavelength over 800 nm was observed in the Ag back reflectors deposited at $500^{\circ}C$, which had an irregular grain size distribution of 200-1000 nm and large surface roughness. The improved light scattering properties on the rough ZnO:Al/Ag back reflector surfaces led to an increase of light trapping in the solar cells, and this resulted in a noticeable improvement in the $J_{sc}$ values from 9.94 mA/$cm^2$ for the flat Ag back reflector at $25^{\circ}C$ to 13.36 mA/$cm^2$ for the rough one at $500^{\circ}C$. A conversion efficiency of 7.60% ($V_{oc}$ = 0.93, $J_{sc}$ = 13.36 mA/$cm^2$, FF = 61%) was achieved in the flexible silicon thin film solar cells at this moment.

  • In general, simulation is to predict or evaluate some systems that are hard to be executed in real world, and so usually the target systems to be modeled are large and complex. Trying to observe the dynamics of the systems results in similar level of animation complexity, the model and animation has the same complexity as the system. Trying to display all the graphic objects representing the dynamics of the models being simulated, however, causes the distraction of focus, which results in solving the above listed problems difficult. The redundant graphic objects also increase the computer computation overhead. To solve the problem, a research about a hierarchical animation environment has been proposed a few years ago. In the research, the users can have better focus on the dynamics of system components by selectively choosing the hierarchical level and components within a level of the hierarchically structured model. However, the research has not a modeling methodology for modelers to describe systematically animation part corresponding to dynamics of simulation in a model. This research has defined the modeling methodology of DESHA and defined DESHA-C++, improving the previous research output, as an execution environment of DESHA models. In addition, to use hierarchical animation environment in various problems, this research proposed and developed the distributed simulation modeling environment that connects DESHA environment and HLA.

  • In this study, we investigated the characteristics of planning lessons using analogies by pre-service science teachers. Eight pre-service teachers at a college of education in Seoul participated in this study. After the workshop of instructional analogies in science education, they planned lessons using analogies. We also conducted semi-structured interviews. For the analyses, we used a revised framework from a previous work which characterized the dimensions of teaching through analogies. The analyses of the results revealed that most pre-service teachers planned to use analogies in beginning or developing lesson and to present analogs before target concepts. The degree of activity allowed for students was not high. Many did not recognize the necessity of assessment and did not include assessment in planning lessons. They planned clarified mapping strategies which are teacher-centered and also not to cover unshared attributes and multiple analogies, because they thought that students could misunderstand mapping and unshared attributes could make students confused. Most planned to use figures, pictures, and videos to help students understand analogies that they presented. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.

  • This study is the quasi-experimental study on the gait training rehabilitation. The purpose of this study is to prepare the baseline data for most suitable of gait while we were scrutinizing how the walking characters, functional walking ability, gait quality of stroke patients were affected by the gait on BWSTT (Body Weight Supported Treadmill Training) through the change of treadmill velocity and body weight support. To accomplish this purpose, this study used thirty subjects, more than 3 months post stroke, for rehabilitation who were divided between two gait training groups they received the neurophysiological physical therapy. For 6 weeks, 5 times a week for 15 minutes per session, the BWSTT group participated in 30 sessions structured speed-dependent treadmill training with 30% body weight supported, and the ratio of body weight support was gradually decreased as the patients advanced the capability of more self-support. The OGT(Over Ground Training) group received the same quantity of equal sessions like BWSTT. Firstly, we measured the absolute improvement of walking velocity (m/s), capacity(min/m) and cadence(steps/min) among walking characters. Secondly, we measured the functional walking ability such as Functional Ambulatory Category(FAC, score out of 5), Modified Motor Assesment Scale(MMAS, score out of 6) and Gait Quality Chart(score out of 41). Data analysis was performed with using SPSS 10.0 win program. The descriptive analysis was used to obtain average and standard deviation. The independent t-test and the paired t-test were used to compare both the groups about pre and post training test. Treatment effects were established by pre and post assessment. Subjects tolerated the training well without side-effects. Therefore, the results of this study were as follows; 1. There was a more significant difference from the improvement of walking velocity(0.09m/s), endurance(4.53min/m), cadence(4.20steps/min), FAC(0.26score), MMAS(0.33 score) and hip joint and pelvic of gait quality(0.39 score) ever before in the BWSTT group(p<.05). 2. There was a more significant increase from the walking velocity(0.01m/s) in the OGT group(p<.05). 3. There was a more statistical significant increase from comparing the average of walking velocity in both groups ever before(0.42m/s in BWSTT group and 0.31m/s in OGT group)(p<.05). There was a statistical significant difference from the average of cadence in both groups(61.87step/min in BWSTT group and 3.60steps/min in OGT group)(p<.05). As we can see from above, the findings suggest that BWSTT may be more effective than the OGT for improving some gait parameters such as gait velocity and cadency. This conclusion also suggest that BWSTT is more effective for the improvement of gait of stroke patients.
