Seismic Reliability Analysis of Offshore Wind Turbine Jacket Structure Using Stress Limit State (응력한계상태를 이용한 해상풍력발전기 재킷구조물의 지진신뢰성해석)

  • Considering the effect of dynamic response amplification, a reliability analysis of an offshore wind turbine support structure under an earthquake is presented. A reliability analysis based on the dynamic response requires a large amount of time when using not only a level 3 approach but also level 2 such as a first order reliability method (FORM). Moreover, if a limit state is defined by using the maximum stress at a structural joint where stress concentration occurs, a three-dimensional element should be used in the finite element analysis. This makes the computational load much heavier. To deal with this kind of problem, two techniques are suggested in this paper. One is the application of a quasi-static structural analysis that takes the dynamic amplification effect into account. The other is the use of a stress concentration factor to estimate the maximum local stress. The proposed reliability analysis is performed using a level 2 FORM and verified using a level 3 simulation approach.

The Regressive Causal Structure of Heating Energy Consumption Affected by Household Income and Housing Characteristics (소득수준과 주택특성에 따른 난방에너지 소비의 역진적 인과구조)

  • Paying an attention to the issue of energy poverty of low-income households and ensuing regressivity of energy consumption, this study empirically analyzes the effects of both household and housing characteristics on heating energy consumption in an integrated way and identifies their causal structure based on the 2016 Korea Housing Survey data provided by the Korean government. Multiple regression analysis shows that household income and deteriorated level of housing, such as age and degree of cracks have positive effects and floor area of housing has a negative effect on the heating energy consumption per unit area of housing (HECPUH). Path analyses further reveal that the direct effect of household income on HECPUH is offset by the indirect effects that are mediated by deteriorated level and floor area of housing, making the total effect statistically insignificant. As a result, there is no significant difference in HECPUH across all income strata, implying that low-income (high-income) households pay more (less) heating costs relative to their income level, since they reside in the houses with relatively low (high) energy efficiency. To deal with this regressive causal structure of energy consumption, a policy option is recommended to improve energy efficiency of low-income housing through the government assistance in its maintenance and repair.

  • It is very important to understand the vibration and noise characteristics of a structure to developed quiet machines and lessen their noise. In this paper, the vibration and sound radiation characteristics of a simple and a bar-stiffened plate have been investigated using numerical and experimental techniques. In numerical process, FEM analysis has been performed for the vibration level ; the time-space squared and averaged velocity and BEM analysis for sound radiation parameters ; sound power and radiation efficiency. In experimental process, FFT signal processing method has been used. While a power from an exiciter is applied to the structure by using a point contact, sound intensity and vibration level has been measured. Based on these two data, the radiation efficiency has been calculated. Results show that the radiation efficiency for the stiffened structure increases compared to the simple plate, due to the extra edges provided by the stiffener.

A Study on the Pediction of Train Noise Propagation From an Elvated Railway (고가선로에서 철도소음 전파예측에 관한 연구)

  • To predict the noise propagation from an elevated railway, sound radiation characteristics of elevated structure are measured by using the sound intensity method. In the base of the results, we propose the source model of elevated structure noise and the calculation model for elevated railway noise. Acoustic model of the former is modeled a row of single sources with directivity cos .theta. positioned in the center of a bogie and arranged in the lower side of slabs. Also prediction model is presented with rolling noise and elevated structure noise calculated by considering the power level of a source for one-third octave band, ground absorption and barrier deflection. Noise level unit patterns of a passing train is calculated based on this model and the results are compared with available field data.

  • A single-layerd steel lattice roof, which has 50m span, was constructed. In order to figure out the realistic buckling load level, the structural analysis of this roof structure was performed especially by local snow load. Due to the characteristics of application of snow load, the load combinations of snow should be considered not only global area but also local part so that the critical buckling load could be observed as easy as possible. Geometrical imperfection was simulated to consider inaccurate shape of structure. And then nonlinear analysis were performed. Finally, this paper could investigate that the local snow load with geometrical imperfection decreased the level of buckling load significantly.

  • Geckos have a unique ability to cling to ceilings and walls utilizing dry adhesion. Their foot pads are covered by a large number of small hairs (setae) that contain many branches per seta with a lower level of spatulae. Their fibrillar structure is the primary source of high adhesion. In this study, we construct the adhesion design database for biomimetic adhesive system. A simple idealized fibrillar structure consisting of single array of beams is modeled. The fibers are assumed as oriented cylindrical cantilever beams with spherical tip. We consider three necessary conditions; buckling, fracture and sticking of fiber structure, which constrain the allowed geometry. The adhesion analysis is performed for the attachment system in contact with rough surfaces with different s values for different main design variables-fiber radius, aspect ratio and material elastic modulus and so on. The developed adhesion design databases are useful for understanding biological systems and for guiding of fabrication of the biomimetic attachment system.

Prosodic Aspects of Discourse Boundaries in Conversation (경계음절에서 나타나는 대화체 언어의 운율 현상)

  • This paper investigates the prosodic characteristics of discourse boundaries in spontaneous conversation. In this study, the term 'conversation' is taken to refer to a kind of talk in which two or more participants alternate in speaking about particular topics. Such a definition implies that there are at least two sorts of structures in the conversation: textual structure and interactive structure. This requires us to consider not just the textual influences on prosody but also the impact of interactive context. The aim of this study is to find out the acoustic-prosodic means used by speakers to signal discourse boundaries in conversational interaction. The results show that the conflict between the structural level and the interactive level obliges the speakers to reorganize the prosodic variables according to the type of discourse boundaries.

A Study on Vibration Reduction of Local Structure of Medium-speed Diesel Engine (중속 디젤엔진 국부 구조물의 진동저감 연구)

  • The failures of local structure of marine medium-speed diesel engine occurred in durability test. The vibration response of the whole engine was in an acceptance level, but the local structures were broken. ODS test and vibration measurement were carried out in order to investigate the root cause of durability problem. These tests revealed that the root cause of failures was excessive vibration by $4.5^{th}$ resonance between engine body and local structure. The best solution to reduce the vibration response is to change the type of mount. After a rigid mount was replaced by a flexible mount, maximum vibration level dropped to 72%.

  • In trench excavation, essential factor of earth-retaining temporary work structure should be easy taking to pieces and movement, and dead weight must be less. This paper studies about the light weight material and application as earth-retaining structure to prevent the slope failure of sand soil ground caused by the variation of groundwater level in trench excavation. That is, light weight earth-retaining structural is proposed and a simulation with FEM on application of proposed structural in sandy soil is presented. The results are summarized as follows; (1) The study proposed FRP H-shaped pannel for the light weight member, and also presented estimation method about stability. (2) Mechanical property (bending moment, shear force, axial force, displacement) were changed according to groundwater level, but these values had been within enough safety rate and allowable stress. Therefore, proposed light weight pannel with FRP is available for bracing structure in trench excavation.

  • In general, structures in service gradually lose original performance according to time due to initial defects in design and construction, or exposure to unfavorable external conditions such as repeated loading or deteriorating environment, and in extreme cases, may collapse in large disaster. Therefore, in order to maintain the serviceability of structures at optimal level, advanced structure measuring system which can inform optimal time point and method of maintenance is required in addition to accurate prediction of residual life the structure by periodic inspection. To guarantee the safety level of bridge structure and to prevent from disaster, the integration of safety network for bridge structures are needed. Therefore in this study, to enhance the effectiveness of safety network for bridge, the connection methodologies between safety network and pre-installed bridge monitoring system are investigated.
