  • In this study, the equivalent plate model is developed using a finite element method(FEM) based on the first order shear deformation theory(FSDT). The substructure synthesis method is used to consider the control surface. For the verification of the equivalent model, the results of free vibration analysis are compared with the ones of 3D wing structure modeled by using the MSC/NASTRAN.

  • To prevent the stable states from the complex dynamics, the global behavior of the overall system must be considered. Thus, indirect adaptive scheme might result in needless responses. Discrete-time variable structure controllers for a well-known logistic map are designed for two deferent sliding hyperplanes. Impulse disturbances are fully rejected by tile virtue of discrete-time variable structure control(DVSC). A numerical example is given to illustrate the effectless of the DVSC.

  • A variable structure controller is developed for an AC servo motor used in CNC milling machines. The designed controller is implemented as an outer loop controller to a factory designed motor-servopack system. The robustness parameter is tuned for a fast response when the speed tracking error is large, while it is tuned for small oscillations when the speed tracking error is small. The designed controller is installed on a CNC machine using a PC. Cutting experiments show improved performance over the factory-designed controller.

  • The robust position control with the bound function of neural network structure is proposed for uncertain robot manipulators. The neural network structure presents the bound function and does not need the concave property of the bound function, The robust approach is to solve this problem as uncertainties are included in a model and the controller can achieve the desired properties in spite of the imperfect modeling. Simulation is performed to validate this law for four-axis SCARA type robot manipulators.

  • The vibration damping of structure is increased by thermal actuator. The thermal actuator causes thermal stress across the section of structure. The several kinds of control theories are proposed and the proposed control theories are successful in increasing vibration damping. This scheme can be effectively applied to large space structure [LSS] having very low natural frequencies.

  • In adaptive fuzzy control systems. fuzzy systems are used to approximate the unknown plant nonlinearities. Until now. most of the papers in the field of controller design for nonlinear system using fuzzy systems considers the affine system with fixed grid-rule structure based on system state availability. This paper considers observer-based nonlinear controller and dynamic fuzzy rule structure. Adaptive laws for fuzzy parameters for state observer and fuzzy rule structure are established so that the whole system is stable in the sense of Lyapunov.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the geometric nonlinearity of a toggle system and to evaluate the vibration control performance when the toggle system with a viscous damper was applied to a structure. Numerical analysis shows that the relative displacement of the structure can be amplified by amplification mechanism of the toggle system and the capacity of the damper can be reduced without the loss of vibration control performance. It is also observed that the geometric nolinearity of toggle system using the linear viscous damper has little effect on the performance.

  • It has been known that variable structure control(VSC) has theoretically powerful control technique of providing fast response, no overshoot, and very robust control with respect to system parameter variations and disturbances. However, the technique has not become more widely extended in the industrial circles because chattering phenomenon which may excite high-frequency unmodelled plant dynamics and damage to system components exists. In this paper, a modified variable structure control(MVSC) is developed to alleviate these problems which are applied to the position control of induction motor. While the conventional VSC makes the structure of the system change with high-frequency switching on the center of the one switching surface, in the MVSC two switching surface are used to establish a sliding sector. The structure of the system will be changed with low-frequency switching. Therefore, the proposed algorithm has the properties of reducing chattering, retaining the benefits achieved in the conventional VSC, and working even under the influences of parameter variations. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the control strategy proposed here for the position control of induction motor.

  • In this paper, feasibility of dynamic characteristics recovery of delaminated composite structure is numerically studied by using active control algorithm and piezoelectric actuator. Macro-fiber composite(MFC), which has great flexibility and high actuating force, is considered as an actuator in this work. After construction of finite element model for delaminated composite structure based on improved layerwise theory, modal characteristics are investigated and changes of natural frequencies and mode shapes, caused by delamination, are observed. Then, active control algorithm is realized and implemented to system model and control performances are numerically evaluated. Dynamic characteristics of delaminated composite structure are effectively recovered to those of healthy composite structure.

  • A fault tolerant structure and its corresponding control strategy for electromagnetic stirring power supplies are proposed in this paper. The topology structure of the electromagnetic stirring power supply contains two-stages. The fore-stage is the PWM rectifier. The back-stage is the fault tolerant inverter, which is a two-phase three-bridge orthogonal inverter circuit while operating normally. When the power switch devices in the inverter are faulty, the structure of the inverter is reconfigured. The two-phase half bridge inverter circuit is constructed with the remaining power switch devices and DC-link capacitors to keep the system operating after cutting the faulty power switch devices from the system. The corresponding control strategy is proposed to let the system work under both normal and fault conditions. The reliability of the system is improved and the requirement of the electromagnetic stirring process is met. Finally, simulation and experimental results verify the feasibility of the proposed fault tolerant structure and corresponding control strategy.
