In this work, Altair Engineering's vibroacoustic modeling approach is used to simulate the acoustic signature of a simplified automobile in a wind tunnel. The modeling approach relies on a two step procedure involving simulation and extraction of acoustic sources using a high fidelity Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation followed by propagation of the acoustic energy within the structure and passenger compartment using a structural dynamics solver. The tools necessary to complete this process are contained within Altair's HyperWorks CAE software suite. The CFD simulations are performed using AcuSolve and the structural simulations are performed using OptiStruct. This vibroacoustics simulation methodology relies on calculation of the acoustic sources from the flow solution computed by AcuSolve. The sources are based on Lighthill's analogy and are sampled directly on the acoustic mesh. Once the acoustic sources have been computed, they are transformed into the frequency domain using a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) with advanced sampling and are subsequently used in the structural acoustics model. Although this approach does require the CFD solver to have knowledge of the acoustic simulation domain a priori, it avoids modeling errors introduced by evaluation of the acoustic source terms using dissimilar meshes and numerical methods. The aforementioned modeling approach is demonstrated on the Hyundai Simplified Model (HSM) geometry in this work. This geometry contains flow features that are representative of the dominant noise sources in a typical automobile design; namely vortex shedding from the passenger compartment A-pillar and bluff body shedding from the side view mirrors. The geometry also contains a thick poroelastic material on the interior that acts to reduce the acoustic noise. This material is modeled using a Biot material formulation during the structural acoustic simulation. Successful prediction of the acoustic noise within the HSM geometry serves to validate the vibroacoustic modeling approach for automotive applications.

Underwater radiated noise is one of the vital factors in underwater weapon systems like submarine. A passive elastic mount is an effective reduction method for the vibration from a ship-board machinery transmitted to the hull which is radiated as noise outside the hull. A passive elastic mount shows the limitation on the vibration reduction and needs multi stage mounting system including double stage one to meet the required underwater radiated noise criteria. It is necessary for the multi stage mounting system to consider the large displacement in the underwater shock explosion. So it is difficult to apply the multi stage mounting system in submarine because of space limitation. Also recent navy sonar system are trying to have the capability to detect the ship-borne acoustic signals in the low frequency range. An alternative to the passive mount is an active mount with moving-coil type electromagnetic actuator based on a conventional rubber mount in the low frequency range. In the previous paper, 4 active mounts with moving-coil type electromagnetic actuator based on the rubber mount were installed on the hard floor of the facility, which means no consideration on the elastic foundation effect for the control of the active mounts was taken into account. In this study, an experimental performance analysis on the active mount was carried out using 4 active mounts installed on the cylindrical structure to investigate the elastic foundation effect.

Recently, the vibration and structure-borne noise induced by passing trains are of great concerns, and the floating slab track is highlighted as one of most efficient alternatives to reduce the railway vibration. However, due to the non-linearity and viscosity of rubber spring used in the floating slab track, its dynamic behavior is very complex. In this study, therefore, to simulate the dynamic behavior of floating slab track with a better accuracy, a nonlinear viscoelastic rubber spring model that can be incorporated in commercial finite element analysis codes has been proposed. This model is composed of a combination of elastic spring element, friction element and viscous element, and termed the "generalized friction viscoelastic model(GFVM)". Also, in this study, the method to determine the model parameters of GFVM based on Berg's 5-parameter model was presented. The results of the finite element analysis with this rubber spring model exhibit very good correlation with the test results of a laboratory mock-up test, and the feasibility of GFVM has been verified.
Zika virus (ZIKV) is a mosquito borne pathogen, belongs to Flaviviridae family having a positive-sense single-stranded RNA genome, currently known for causing large epidemics in Brazil. Its infection can cause microcephaly, a serious birth defect during pregnancy. The recent outbreak of ZIKV in February 2016 in Brazil realized it as a major health risk, demands an enhanced surveillance and a need to develop novel drugs against ZIKV. Amodiaquine, prochlorperazine, quinacrine, and berberine are few promising drugs approved by Food and Drug Administration against dengue virus which also belong to Flaviviridae family. In this study, we performed molecular docking analysis of these drugs against nonstructural 3 (NS3) protein of ZIKV. The protease activity of NS3 is necessary for viral replication and its prohibition could be considered as a strategy for treatment of ZIKV infection. Amongst these four drugs, berberine has shown highest binding affinity of -5.8 kcal/mol and it is binding around the active site region of the receptor. Based on the properties of berberine, more similar compounds were retrieved from ZINC database and a structure-based virtual screening was carried out by AutoDock Vina in PyRx 0.8. Best 10 novel drug-like compounds were identified and amongst them ZINC53047591 (2-(benzylsulfanyl)-3-cyclohexyl-3H-spiro[benzo[h]quinazoline-5,1'-cyclopentan]-4(6H)-one) was found to interact with NS3 protein with binding energy of -7.1 kcal/mol and formed H-bonds with Ser135 and Asn152 amino acid residues. Observations made in this study may extend an assuring platform for developing anti-viral competitive inhibitors against ZIKV infection.
Super long-span bridges provide people with great convenience, but they also bring traffic safety problems caused by strong wind owing to their high decks. In this paper, the large eddy simulation together with dynamic mesh technology in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is used to explore the mechanism of a moving vehicle's transient aerodynamic force in crosswind, the regularity and mechanism of the vehicle's aerodynamic forces when it passes through a bridge tower's wake zone in crosswind. By comparing the calculated results and those from wind tunnel tests, the reliability of the methods used in the paper is verified on a moving vehicle's aerodynamic forces in a bridge tower's wake region. A vehicle's aerodynamic force coefficient decreases sharply when it enters into the wake region, and reaches its minimum on the leeward of the bridge tower where exists a backflow region. When a vehicle moves on the outermost lane on the windward direction and just passes through the backflow region, it will suffer from negative lateral aerodynamic force and yaw moment in the bridge tower's wake zone. And the vehicle's passing ruins the original vortex structure there, resulting in that the lateral wind on the right side of the bridge tower does not change its direction but directly impact on the vehicle's windward. So when the vehicle leaves from the backflow region, it will suffer stronger aerodynamic than that borne by the vehicle when it just enters into the region. Other cases of vehicle moving on different lane and different directions were also discussed thoroughly. The results show that the vehicle's pneumatic safety performance is evidently better than that of a vehicle on the outermost lane on the windward.

In research vessels or naval ships, airborne noise from machineries such as diesel engine is the major source of underwater noise at low speed. In this paper, effect of engine noise on underwater noise is studied by considering two paths; sound radiation from hull plate and direct airborne noise transmission through hull plate. SEA (Statistical energy analysis) is used to predict hull plate vibration induced by engine noise, where SEA model consists of only two subsystems; engine room air space and hull plate. The pressure level in water is calculated from sound radiation by plate. Engine noise transmission through hull plate is obtained by assuming plane wave propagation in air-limp plate-water system. Two effects are combined and compared to the measurement, where speaker is used as a source in engine room and sound pressure levels in engine room and water are measured. The hydrophone is located 1 m away from the hull plate. It is found below 1000 Hz, prediction overestimates underwater sound pressure level by 5 to 12 dB.
The Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission(TRMM) Satellite was launched in November 1997, carving into orbit the first space-borne Precipitation Radar(PR). The main objective of the TRMM is to obtain and study multi-year science data sets of tropical and subtropical rainfall measurements. In the present investigation, the characteristics of heavy rainfall cases over Korea in 1998 and 1999 are analyzed using the TRMM/PR dat3. We compare the rainrate measured from TRMM/PR with the accumulated rainfall data for 10 minutes tv Automatic Weather System(AWS). Especially, horizontal cross-section of rainrate with height and longitude in the precipitating clouds are investigated. As a result of the comparison with GMS-5 IR1, the TRMM/PR data delineate well the rain type( i.e. convective, stratiform cloud and others), height of storm top and instantaneous rainrate in the precipitating clouds. The vertical structure with height and horizontal cross-section of rainrate along the longitude show the orographic effect on the rainfall. TRMM/PR instrument measures the rainrate below 6 ㎜/hr more than AWS rainguages and inclined to underestimate the rainrate than rainguages for the whole area.

The operation of subway trains induces secondary structure-borne vibrations in the nearby underground spaces. The vibration, along with the associated noise, can cause annoyance and adverse physical, physiological, and psychological effects on humans in dense urban environments. Traditional tethered instruments restrict the rapid measurement and assessment on such vibration effect. This paper presents a novel approach for Wireless Smart Sensor (WSS)-based autonomous evaluation system for the subway train-induced vibrations. The system was implemented on a MEMSIC's Imote2 platform, using a SHM-H high-sensitivity accelerometer board stacked on top. A new embedded application VibrationLevelCalculation, which determines the International Organization for Standardization defined weighted acceleration level, was added into the Illinois Structural Health Monitoring Project Service Toolsuite. The system was verified in a large underground space, where a nearby subway station is a good source of ground excitation caused by the running subway trains. Using an on-board processor, each sensor calculated the distribution of vibration levels within the testing zone, and sent the distribution of vibration level by radio to display it on the central server. Also, the raw time-histories and frequency spectrum were retrieved from the WSS leaf nodes. Subsequently, spectral vibration levels in the one-third octave band, characterizing the vibrating influence of different frequency components on human bodies, was also calculated from each sensor node. Experimental validation demonstrates that the proposed system is efficient for autonomously evaluating the subway train-induced ambient vibration of underground spaces, and the system holds the potential of greatly reducing the laboring of dynamic field testing.
Background: Ticks are one of the most common external parasites in dogs, and are associated with the transmission of a number of major zoonoses, which result in serious harm to human health and even death. Also, the increasing number of pet dogs and pet owners in China has caused concern regarding human tick-borne illnesses. Accordingly, studies are needed to gain a complete understanding of the bacterial composition and diversity of the ticks that parasitize dogs. Objectives: To date, there have been relatively few reports on the analysis of the bacterial community structure and diversity in ticks that parasitize dogs. The objective of this study was to investigate the microbial composition and diversity of parasitic ticks of dogs, and assessed the effect of tick sex and geographical region on the bacterial composition in two tick genera collected from dogs in China. Methods: A total of 178 whole ticks were subjected to a 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) next generation sequencing analysis. The Illumina MiSeq platform targeting the V3-V4 region of the 16S rRNA gene was used to characterize the bacterial communities of the collected ticks. Sequence analysis and taxonomic assignment were performed using QIIME 2 and the GreenGene database, respectively. After clustering the sequences into taxonomic units, the sequences were quality-filtered and rarefied. Results: After pooling 24 tick samples, we identified a total of 2,081 operational taxonomic units, which were assigned to 23 phyla and 328 genera, revealing a diverse bacterial community profile. The high, moderate and low prevalent taxa include 46, 101, and 182 genera, respectively. Among them, dominant taxa include environmental bacterial genera, such as Psychrobacter and Burkholderia. Additionally, some known tick-associated endosymbionts were also detected, including Coxiella, Rickettsia, and Ricketssiella. Also, the potentially pathogenic genera Staphylococcus and Pseudomonas were detected in the tick pools. Moreover, our preliminary study found that the differences in microbial communities are more dependent on the sampling location than tick sex in the tick specimens collected from dogs. Conclusions: The findings of this study support the need for future research on the microbial population present in ticks collected from dogs in China.

This study is a case study for in-house developed Record Maintenance and Management (RMMS) which is a digital data storage/retrieval system in a GIS-enabled solution. RMMS is designed for reorganizing submitted architectural drawings associated with scanned drawings files & geodatabase, managing metadata/table and geometric features in ArcSDE/Enterprise geodatabase format. The birth of the RMMS was borne out of a necessity for a modernized approach in digital file basis to provide improved customer services for various architectural drawings and associated with geo-spatial and its attribute information. Through a case study for building permit & review practice implemented on an internet-based Electronic Architectural administration Information System (EAIS) at the local governments in Korea, this study is able to derive differences between GIS-enabled RMMS system implemented in the Richmond City and internet-based EAIS system implemented in the local government in Korea. In an effort to be the most effective, it presents meaningful ways of maximizing efficiency in record maintenance & management system derived from the case studies that looked into in ways of a method in RMMS' operation, implementation on GIS platform, mutual interface among various programs with various digital files and finally technical supports and system development /upgrade.
