  • In this study, Intersecting Tensegrity System that is integrated solid compression members with tension members was presented. This system is set up by connecting upper and lower compression members of pyramid shape with exterior tension members. In this system, the solid compression members are intersected each other and connected by a tension member in the center. This system is a variation of Tensegrity system, has a improved feature that the system is able to induce prestresses in all of tension members easily by adjusting the distance of a tension member in the center. The proposed system was studied by modeling, and the structural behavior of the system was investigated by mechanical analysis of the model. Furthermore, the features of the structural behavior variations was investigated when the composition elements(total height, size of surface, intersection length, etc.) are changed variously. It was also showed that the system is able to be used as a temporary space structure system with a membrane roof of inverse conical shape.

  • High speed planning boats also have been required more and more the rational strength analysis and evaluation for the optimal structural design in respect of the structural lightness according to the high speed trend. Even though the suggestion of the simple type equation for the equivalent dynamic pressure is reasonable to design the scantling of ship structure conveniently, many research activities for more reasonable improvement of the simple design pressure, have been continued to suggest the more accurate equivalent static description of tire structural response such as the deflection and stress of hull structure. In this research, we focus on the aluminum bottom stiffened plate structure in which structural scantling is mainly depend on the local loads such as dynamic or impact pressure without other load effects and structural response for the simple dynamic equivalent pressure was investigated through the structural analysis. In order to investigate the structural response of the bottom stiffened plate structure subjected to the dynamic equivalent design pressure, linear and nonlinear structural analysis of the bottom stiffened plate structure of 4.3 ton aluminum planning boat was performed based on the equivalent static applied loads which were derived from the KR regulation and representative one among various dynamic equivalent pressure equations. From above analysis results, we found that the response such as deflection and stress of plate member was similar with the response results of one plate member model with fixed boundary, which was published previous paper and in case of KR design loading, all response of stiffened plate structure were within elastic limit. Through the nonlinear analysis, nearly elastic behavior including the slight geometrical nonlinear response was dominant but plastic local zone was appeared at $85\%$ limit load. Therefore, we can say that through tire linear and nonlinear analysis, this stiffened plate member has no structural strength problem based on the yield criteria in case within $60\%$ limit load except the other strength point of view such as the fatigue and buckling problem.

  • In this study, we discussed the local buckling behavior of pultruded structural flexural members. Previous works were briefly reviewed and the local buckling behavior of orthotropic box-shape flexural members was discussed. The simplified form of equation for finding the width ratio of plate element of box-shape flexural members in which all plate components buckle simultaneously was proposed and the macro flow-chart for finding local buckling strength of pultruded flexural members was also suggested. To establish the design guide line for the local buckling of pultruded flexural members, further studies need to be performed as follows; the simplified form of solutions for finding the minimum buckling coefficient of orthotropic plate with various loading and boundary conditions including rotationally restrained boundary conditions, the simplified form of equation for calculating the coefficient of restraint provided by the adjacent plate elements.

  • This study presents an effective stiffness-based optimal technique to consider floor rigid diaphragm action and a technique to evaluate the structural behavior characteristics and efficiency for tall shear wall outrigger system subject to horizontal loads. To this end, isoparametric plane stress element with rotational stiffness is used for shear wall element and stiffness gradient is calculated. Also, the approximation concept to solve effectively the large scaled problems, member grouping technique and resizing technique are considered. To verify the effectiveness and usefulness of this technique, the efficient evaluation method for three types of 50 story model with core and outrigger system is presented.

  • Metallic sandwich panels based on a truss core structure have been developed for a wide range of potential applications with their lightweight and multi-functionality. Structural performance of sandwich panels can be predicted from the studies on mechanical behavior of a unit cell of truss core structures. Analytical investigations on the unit cell provide approximated guidelines for the design of overall core structures for a specific application in short time. In this study, the effects of geometrical parameters on mechanical behavior of a pyramidal shape of unit cell were investigated with analytical models. The unit cell with truss member angle of 45 degree was considered as reference model and other models were designed to have the same weight and projected area but different truss member angle. All truss members were assumed to be connected with pin joint in analytical models. Under the assumptions, the equivalent strength and stiffness of the unit cell under compressive and shear loads were predicted and compared. And finally, the optimum core member angle to have maximum mechanical property could be calculated and verified with FE analysis results.

  • In order to determine a minimum thickness of the pultruded GFRP panel as a structural member, some experimental studies were performed. GFRP tubes with 2mm, 4mm, 6mm thickness were manufactured by pultrusion process. First, coupon tests for finding mechanical properties were carried out. Comparisons between test results and analysis results based on classical laminate theory showed large differences in case of 2mm, 4mm specimens. The reason is that it is difficult to apply appropriate pultruding force and keep layered stitched fabric flat for the pultrusion process of complex shaped FRP member with small thickness. On the consequence, we decide 6mm as a minimum thickness of FRP member. Second, 4-point bending tests were performed and the results with compared with numerical analysis. The behavior of FRP tube can be exactly predicted by numerical analysis if buckling analysis is included.

  • This study is intended to Mindori structure which is general private houses' structural type among traditional types and is a basic study to confirm structural characteristics of Hwatong connection which is general connection type of column-beam-cross beam. It is aimed to analyze how main member, column, such as size, figure, thickness of Sungetuk and Dugeup affect on structure. Following conclusions are drawn. 1. According to connection conditions, models with big coefficient of friction show stable hysteretic behavior until the angle rotation of member reaches 1/60 and models with small coefficient of friction show dramatical increase in load after the angle rotation of member reaches 1/24. After the angle rotation of member reaches 1/30, separation distance of members is identified physically and cracks are not observed. 2. Specimens with big coefficient of friction show similar inner force regardless of column size(except column size 150mm) and models with small coefficient of friction show increasing inner force as the column size increases. Specimens with same sectional area have similar inner force even though the column figures are different. The thickness of Sungetuk and Dugeup doesn't affect inner force greatly, however, when the thickness of Sungetuk is thin, it could lead to failure of structure as it breaks. 3. The bigger the size of column and the coefficient of friction are, the smaller Bending stiffness depreciation ratio is. 4. Energy Dissipation Efficiency differs from the coefficient of friction. When the coefficient of friction is big, square column shows bigger than round one and it is bigger when the thickness of Sungetuk and Dugeup is thicker. When the coefficient of friction is small, round column shows bigger than square one.

  • This study investigates experimentally flexural behavior and CFB(Carbon Fiber Bar) reinforcing effects of timber sleeper in traditional storied tower house. As a test result, standard sleepers without CFB(Carbon Fiber Bar) reinforcement show flexural cracks at the bottom member at the beginning of loading stage and leads to fracture. However, reinforced specimens with CFB show initial shrinkage at the upper part of specimen by compression, instead of flexural cracks at the bottom, and finally show compressive failure or fracture after failure of CFB and it proves that reinforcing effects by CFB are exerted from early loading. Reinforced specimens showed higher strength in yield strength by 6%~38%, and ultimate strength by 8%~17%, than those of standard specimens. Reinforced specimen is considered that specimen with flexural reinforcement using CFB can expect flexural deflection control effect. Reinforced specimen shows higher ductile coefficient increase of average 141% compared than standard specimens and it proves that higher structural ductile behavior can be expected in reinforced specimens.

  • Concrete is a suitable construction material for long-term structure, however, it is needed to understand the calcium leaching damage caused by exposure to underground pure water for a long time. In this paper, it is experimentally investigated that the characteristics of flexural behavior in RC member damaged by calcium leaching degradation. From the test results, when calcium leaching is happened, yielding load and flexural rigidity is reduced, neutral axis depth and displacement is increased. That is, calcium leaching degradation adversely affects RC member performance. And, when the mineral admixture is used in the calcium leaching environment, it is considered that the optimal replacement ratio should be prepared according to the type of mineral admixture.
