Effect of one way reinforced concrete slab characteristics on structural response under blast loading

  • In evaluating explosion-protection capacity, safety distance is broadly accepted as the distance at which detonation of a given explosive causes acceptable structural damage. Safety distance can be calculated based on structural response under blast loading and damage criteria. For the applicability of the safety distance, the minimum required stand-off distance should be given when the explosive size is assumed. However, because of the nature of structures, structural details and material characteristics differ, which requires sensitivity analysis of the safety distance. This study examines the safety-distance sensitivity from structural and material property variations. For the safety-distance calculation, a blast analysis module based on the Kingery and Bulmash formula, a structural response module based on a Single Degree of Freedom model, and damage criteria based on a support rotation angle were prepared. Sensitivity analysis was conducted for the Reinforced Concrete one-way slab with different thicknesses, reinforcement ratios, reinforcement yield strengths, and concrete compressive strengths. It was shown that slab thickness has the most significant influence on both inertial force and flexure resistance, but the compressive strength of the concrete is not relevant.

Structural Analysis of the Lower Frame in the Multi-aerial Platform (복합굴절차의 하부 프레임에 대한 구조해석)

  • This research focuses on structural stability of the multi-aerial platform. In this study, we conduct structural analysis for the lower structures such as sub frame, out-trigger and chassis frame, by using a universal structural analysis program NASTRAN based on 3D CAD data, material properties, load conditions and boundary conditions. We confirm the position of local stress exceeding the yield strength, through structural analysis of 4 cases for load conditions. As the results, it is possible to relax stress concentration in a way such as changing the thickness, reinforcing the material of the lower frames.

  • Utilization of new lighter materials, more tough and durable than existing materials, is getting larger in recent constructions. FRP, stronger and lighter than present materials, can be formed in various shapes and has high durability, which makes it more profitable as a new material in construction fields. However, effort to use FRP in real construction is toddling and FRP is used primarily as reinforcing material in connote structure. We are about to develop Hybrid FRP Rod for the development of advanced construction material which is based on IT, by Hybridization of HIP, spotlighted as new construction material, and optical sensor in smart measurement. Beforehand, it is required to fully understand the properties of tension test operated in Hybrid FRP Rod. For this, a specimen was made by hybridization of FRP Rod and FBG sensor. Strain of Hybrid FRP Rod was measured comparing electric sensor and FBG sensor.

  • The shape of K-R curve for an ideally brittle material is flat because the surface energy is an unvaried material property. However, the K-R curve can take on a variety of shapes when nonlinear material behavior accompanies fracture. By the way, a general metallic material is nonlinear, structural steel is such. Therefore, the J-R curve form J-integral value instead of K parameters can be used to evaluate elastic-plastic materials with flaws in terms of ductile fracture that can be significant to design. In this paper, R-curve behaviors form K and J parameter is considered for the precise assessment of fracture analysis, in case of JS-SS400 steels.

  • In this paper, a theoretical approach is studied to predict structural performances and weight reduction rates of a car-body with shell type sections in case that its materials have to be substituted. For the material substitution design of a car-body, bending, axial and twisting deformations are considered under constant stiffness and strength conditions, which utilize some new indices derived from a structural performance point of view. The developed indices to measure the weight reduction by the material substitution give good guidelines on conceptual design of car-bodies.

Finite Element Analysis for Cracks in Rubber Bonded to a Rigid Material (강체와 접합된 고무의 균열에 대한 유한요소해석)

  • Cracks in rubber bonded to a rigid material such as steel are analyzed with the aid of a mixed finite element technique. Firstly the weak form is derived for finite element analysis of an incompressible material, and the Mooney-Rivlin form is assumed for the constitutive modeling of rubber. The numerical results from finite element analysis is examined to confirm the accuracy and convergence of solution by way of comparison to other numerical results. The interpretation of the J-integral for large elastic deformation as the energy release rate is confirmed, and the J-integral is calculated for varing crack length. The crack growth stability is discussed using the result of finite element analysis.

Conversion of ABAQUS user Material Subroutines

  • When using finite element pogram ABAQUS to compute material characteristics, one builds a user material subroutine if unique constitutive feature needs to be included. In ABAQUS/Standard, UMAT subroutine should be built, and in ABAQUS/Explicit, VUMAT should be used. Although two subroutines carry out the same type of task, two different programs should be made depending on the working environment, and it is not easy to program the subroutines following the manual without enough understanding of solid mechanics. In this paper, difference between UMAT and VUMAT subroutines is epitomized, and a conversion scheme from UMAT to VUMAT is discussed. An example shows that the two programs give the same stress computation result.

  • As structure and the waterproofing material are compressed through the backfilling process after the waterproofing material is installed on the underground structure at the actual site, there is a difference between the behavioral response force of the waterproofing material in the compressed state and the behavioral response force in the non-constrained state. In this regard, we will analyze the limitations of the current structural behavioral response evaluation and suggest an improvement plan so that the future test and evaluation environment can be evaluated under conditions similar to the field.

  • Nonlinear equation of motion due to material nonlinearity of structure is transformed to linear equation of motion by treating the nonlinear elastic force term as an applied force. The solution in a time step is carried out by iterative linear dynamic analysis. The present simple algorithm is varidated by several examples .The results show that this algorithm is and efficient.
