Evaluation on Anchorage Performance of 57mm Headed Bars in Exterior Beam-Column Joint under Cyclic Loading (반복하중을 받는 외부 보-기둥 접합부에 정착된 57mm 확대머리철근의 정착성능평가)

  • In this study, the anchoring performance of 57mm headed bars anchored at the external beam-column joint under cyclic loading was evaluated. A total of 6 external beam-column joint test specimens were planned, and anchorage performance was evaluated by setting concrete compressive strength, side covering thickness, lateral reinforcement ratio, and fracture type as major experimental variables. As result of cyclic loading test, it was found that the factors that had the greatest influence on the anchoring capacity of the large-diameter headed bar anchored at the joint were the side cover thickness and the transverse reinforcing bar. It was confirmed that the 57mm large-diameter headed bar anchored at the external beam-column joint showed sufficient anchoring capacity even under cyclic loading.

  • Elastomeric bearings composed of flexible rubber materials and steel reinforcement plates are widely used for seismic retrofit of bridges due to their excellent vertical stiffness and flexible lateral stiffness. Especially, it has the advantages of simple construction and low cost. Chloroprene rubber, a type of rubber material, has greater resistance to aging than natural rubber, but its performance is also degraded due to various deterioration factors. Although these aging characteristics are not reflected in the seismic design standards and seismic performance evaluation guidelines, it is reasonable to reflect this when related studies are accumulated. For chloroprene rubber, accelerated heat aging test was performed with variables of heating temperatures and exposure time to analyze shear characteristics. As aging progresses the maximum shear stress and shear strain decrease. Also, the shear stiffness is greatly increased at the same shear strain.

  • In 2017, the Gyeongju earthquake caused many casualties and considerable property damage by overturning and dropping blocks and bricks. Various reinforcement techniques were proposed, but some problems, such as short length or difficult construction, were encountered. Therefore, this study proposes a long-rawlplug screw anchor to improve the existing rawlplug anchor and conducts an experiment to evaluate the pullout strength. Variables in the pullout test were the compressive strength of concrete and the embedded length of the long-rawlplug screw anchor. According to the results, the pullout strength of the long-rawlplug screw anchor increased as the compressive strength of concrete increased, and they were not affected by the embedded length. Rather, it was found that the screw length of the long-rawlplug was important to the pullout strength.

  • In this study, the technology to prevent lateral deformation of steel dampers was reviewed and applied to the clamp type dampers. As for the experimental method, the rocking behavior was applied as in the previous study. The evaluation variables are the existing research results (SV-260) without lateral deformation prevention details and the test results (V-1, V-1R) with lateral deformation prevention details. Where, V-1 is the lateral deformation prevention detail at the lower part of the damper, and V-1R is the lateral deformation prevention detail at the lower part and upper part of the damper. As a result of evaluating the moment, drift ratio, and energy dissipation capacity relative to SV-260 at the time of maximum load, the maximum moments of V-1 and V-1R were increased by 1.22 times and 1.36 times compared to SV-260, and the maximum drift ratio increased by 2.41 times and 2.92 times. In addition, the energy dissipation capacity also increased by 1.39 times and 1.52 times, respectively. Therefore, the application of lateral deformation prevention details to the steel damper was evaluated as appropriate.

Multicomponent assessment and ginsenoside conversions of Panax quinquefolium L. roots before and after steaming by HPLC-MSn

  • Background: The structural conversions in ginsenosides induced by steaming or heating or acidic condition could improve red ginseng bioactivities significantly. In this paper, the chemical transformations of red American ginseng from fresh Panax quinquefolium L. under steaming were investigated, and the possible mechanisms were discussed. Methods: A method with reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with linear ion trap mass spectrometry ($HPLC-MS^n$)-equipped electrospray ionization ion source was developed for structural analysis and quantitation of ginsenosides in dried and red American ginseng. Results: In total, 59 ginsenosides of protopanaxadiol, protopanaxatriol, oleanane, and ocotillol types were identified in American ginseng before and after steaming process by matching the molecular weight and/or comparing $MS^n$ fragmentation with that of standards and/or known published compounds, and some of them were determined to be disappeared or newly generated under different steaming time and temperature. The specific fragments of each aglycone-type ginsenosides were determined as well as aglycone hydrated and dehydrated ones. The mechanisms were deduced as hydrolysis, hydration, dehydration, and isomerization of neutral and acidic ginsenosides. Furthermore, the relative peak areas of detected compounds were calculated based on peak areas ratio. Conclusion: The multicomponent assessment of American ginseng was conducted by $HPLC-MS^n$. The result is expected to provide possibility for holistic evaluation of the processing procedures of red American ginseng and a scientific basis for the usage of American ginseng in prescription.

A full path assessment approach for vibration serviceability and vibration control of footbridges

  • Most of the existing evaluation criteria of vibration serviceability rely on the peak acceleration of the structure rather than that of the people keeping their own body unmoved on the structure who is the real receiver of structural vibrations. In order to accurately assess the vibration serviceability, therefore, a full path assessment approach of vibration serviceability based on vibration source, path and receiver is not only tentatively proposed in this paper, taking the peak acceleration of receiver into account, but also introduce a probability procedure to provide more instructive information instead of a single value. In fact, semi-rigid supported on both sides of the structure is more consistent with the actual situation than simply supported or clamped due to the application of the prefabricated footbridge structures. So, the footbridge is regarded as a beam with semi-rigid supported on both sides in this paper. The differential quadrature-integral quadrature coupled method is not only to handle different type of boundary conditions, but also after being further modified via the introduction of an approximation procedure in this work, the time-varying system problem caused by human-structure interaction can be solved well. The analytical results of numerical simulations demonstrate that the modified differential quadrature-integral quadrature coupled method has higher reliability and accuracy compared with the mode superposition method. What's more, both of the two different passive control measures, the tuned mass damper and semi-rigid supported, have good performance for reducing vibrations. Most importantly, semi-rigid supported is easier to achieve the objective of reducing vibration compared with tuned mass damper in design stage of structure.

  • In this paper, a low-cost dynamic measurement system using the RGB-depth camera, Microsoft $Kinect^{(R)}$ v2, is proposed for measuring time-varying free surface motion of liquid dampers used in building vibration mitigation. Various experimental studies are conducted consecutively: performance evaluation and validation of the $Kinect^{(R)}$ v2, real-time monitoring using the $Kinect^{(R)}$ v2 SDK(software development kits), point cloud acquisition of liquid free surface in the 3D space, comparison with the existing video sensing technology. Utilizing the proposed $Kinect^{(R)}$ v2-based measurement system in this study, dynamic behavior of liquid in a laboratory-scaled small tank under a wide frequency range of input excitation is experimentally analyzed.

  • Now labour policy of Moon Jae-in Administration is very different from the labour reform politics of the past ages in its structural conditions. Especially the difference is in the fact that the new labour policy is originated from the Candlelight Revolution in 2016 which has resisted to the 20years-long neoliberal domination. This kind of change in the political situation made a optimistic prediction with regard to the possibility of successful labour reform. However the future is in many points so uncertain that we could not confirm the success of labour reform at all. The uncertainty always resides in the structural unbalance between labour movement power and capitalist state power bloc in Korea. In this sense strategical orientation and practices of the democratic labour movement(KCTU) are very critical to produce some positive outcomes.

  • A rapid diagnostic test (RDT) kit was developed to detect non-structural protein 1 (NS1) of yellow fever virus (YFV) using monoclonal antibody. NS1 protein was purified from the cultured YFV and used to immunize mice. Monoclonal antibody to NS1 was selected and conjugated with colloidal gold to produce the YFV NS1 RDT kit. The YFV RDTs were evaluated for sensitivity and specificity using positive and negative samples of monkeys from Brazil and negative human blood samples from Korea. Among monoclonal antibodies, clones 3A11 and 3B7 proved most sensitive, and used for YFV RDT kit. Diagnostic accuracy of YFV RDT was fairly high; Sensitivity was 0.0% and specificity was 100% against Dengue viruses type 2 and 3, Zika, Chikungunya and Mayaro viruses. This YFV RDT kit could be employed as a test of choice for point-of-care diagnosis and large scale surveys of YFV infection under clinical or field conditions in endemic areas and on the globe.

Service life evaluation in RC structure near to sea shore through accelerated chloride diffusion test (촉진 염화물 시험결과를 이용한 비말대 콘크리트 구조물의 내구수명 평가)

  • In order to evaluate service life of RC (Reinforced Concrete) structures exposed to chloride attack, chloride penetration analysis is required referred to the chloride diffusion coefficient from the actual mix proportions. In this work, accelerated diffusion coefficients are obtained from NT BUILD 492 and ASTM C 1202 and the related apparent diffusion coefficients are derived via the previously proposed relationship for RC structures near to sea shore. Considering the properties of the mix proportions and the most conservative analysis conditions like critical and surface chloride contents, service lifes in column and exterior wall member are evaluated through conventional program LIFE 365 ver.2. The different built-up period of 10 and 15 years has no significant effect on service life. The results from mix proportions with slag show longer than 75 years of service life with the help of higher time dependent parameter and lower initial diffusion coefficient.
