The assessment of seismic behavior and seismic performance of ageing Sarıyar concrete gravity dam constructed on Sakarya River in Türkiye is the main focus of this paper. For this purpose, the impact of sediment domain, ageing of concrete material under the impact of chemical and mechanical actions, and dam-water-sediment interaction are included in the two-dimensional (2D) finite element (FE) model developed in FORTRAN 90 environment. In the FE model, the dam and age dependent sediment domains are modeled by solid elements, while reservoir domain is modeled by Lagrangian fluid elements. The radiation of reflected waves to the unbounded water domain is modeled by infinite Lagrangian fluid elements, while unbounded sediment domain is modeled by infinite solid elements. The coupled system was assumed to be under the simultaneous impact of Vertical (V) and Horizontal (H) ingredients of 1976 Koyna earthquake and the coupled system was analyzed in Laplace domain by direct method. Due to the deterioration of the concrete, the H and V displacement responses together with the fundamental period of the body, elongate throughout the lifetime and this reduce the seismic safety of the dam. It was deduced that the ageing dam body will not experience major damages under the Koyna earthquake both at the earlier and later ages. Furthermore, at the heel of the dam, the hydrodynamic pressure responses are decreased by rising the sediment domain depth.
Specific joint devices composed of end-plates and through bolts are under development to assemble steel beams to PC columns efficiently by dry construction method for the PCS structural system, of which major structural components are precast concrete columns and steel beams. Seismic performance of the joint devices had been evaluated by experimental tests in the previous studies and it was showed that all the performance requirements regarding to strength deterioration, stiffness degradation and energy dissipation capacity were satisfied to the criteria of ACI requirements, but the initial stiffness was not. In order to find out possible causes of the insufficient rigidity of the joint devices and provide the proper measures to improve the performance of the joint accordingly, numerical analyses were carried out by using ABAQUS. Parameters, such as thickness of neoprene pad, conditions of surface between PC column and end-plate, magnitude of pretension forces of through bolts, stiffness of end-plate were taken into consideration. As the result, it was found that the rigidity of the PCS system was negatively affected by the magnitude of initial gaps between PC columns and end-plates, and insufficient stiffness of neoprene fillers and end plates. In order to improve the initial stiffness performance of the joints, measures such as increase of the magnitude of pretension forces on through bolts and increase of the stiffness of end-plate by reducing the bolt pitch and providing adequate stiffeners are recommended.
As city tourism has recently been evaluated as a major indicator of urban competitiveness, strengthening the role of cities as tourist destinations has received more attention. However, industrialization and urbanization of many cities lead to population decline, extinction of traditional industries, and deterioration of living environments, weakening urban functions and competitiveness. Thus, it is essential for declining cities to build a measure to restore urban competitiveness by enhancing urban functions. Accordingly, this study focused on socio-cultural urban regeneration by exploring physical spaces for tourism destinations in declining cities. Different from general tourist destinations, tourism destinations of urban regeneration have a temporal perspective covering the past, present, and future. How does the temporal perspective of urban regeneration tourist destinations affect tourists' satisfaction and behavioral intention? In order to address these questions, this study conducts an empirical analysis based on structural equation modeling (SEM) using the sample of tourists who have visited urban regeneration tourism destinations. With SEM, this paper investigates structural relationships across variables by testing the hypothesis established in the proposed research model. The results show that precious memories of the past are the most important factor for tourists to visit urban regeneration tourist destinations. The empirical findings of this study will contribute to the research areas of urban tourism, urban regeneration tourism, and urban regeneration tourism destinations. In addition, this study can provide practical implications to develop socio-cultural contents of urban regeneration areas as tourism resources to establish plans for urban regeneration projects and achieve sustainable development strategies.

The PSCB girder bridge is a closed cross-section in which the top and bottom flanges and the web are integrated, and the structural characteristics are generally different from the bridges in which the girder and the floor plate are separated, so a maintenance plan that reflects the characteristics of the PSCB girder bridge is required. As a result of analyzing damage types by collecting detailed safety diagnosis reports of highway PSCB girder bridges, most of the deterioration and damage occurring during use is concentrated on the top flange. In particular, cracks in the bridge direction on the underside of the top flange occurred in about 70 % of the PSCB girder bridges to be analyzed, and these cracks were judged to be caused by indirect loads such as heat of hydration and drying shrinkage rather than structural cracks caused by external loads. In order to improve durability and reduce maintenance costs of PSCB girder bridges in use, it is necessary to control restraint drying shrinkage cracks from the design stage. Therefore, in this paper, the cracks caused by drying shrinkage under restraint, which is the main cause of cracks under the flanges of the top part of the PSCB girder bridge, were directly calculated using the Gilbert Model, and the influencing factors such as the amount of reinforcing bars, diameter and spacing of reinforcing bars were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the crack width caused by restraint drying shrinkage exceeded the allowable crack width of 0.2 mm for reinforcing bars with a reinforcing bar ratio of 0.01 or less based on the H16 reinforcing bar and a reinforcing bar with a diameter greater than H19 based on the reinforcing bar ratio of 0.01. Finally, based on the results of the crack width review, a method for controlling the crack width of the top flange of the PSCB girder bridge was proposed.
The experiments were carried out to elucidate the varietal variation of retrogradation in aged cooked rice and its association with some physicochemical properties of milled rice. The fifteen rice materials were selected from forty-three low-amylose japonica and Tongil-type rice cultivars based on palatability and retrogradation of cooked rice stratified by preliminary sensory evaluation of warm and cooled cooked rice. One japonica glutinous rice variety was included for comparison of retrogradation of cooked rice. The $\alpha$-amylase-iodine method was adopted for checking the varietal difference in retrogradation of cooked rice. The desirable checking time for evaluating the varietal difference in deterioration of aged cooked rice was four hours after storing in room temperature and two hours after preserving in refrigerator based on the largest coefficients of variations in degree of retrogradation of cooked rice. The rice cultivars revealing the relatively slow retrogradation in aged cooked rice were Ilpumbyeo, Chucheongbyeo, Sasanishiki, Jinbubyeo and Koshihikari. A Tongil-type rice, Taebaegbyeo, and a japonica cultivar, Seomjinbyeo, showed the relatively fast deterioration of cooked rice. The retrogadation index represented by the percentage of retrogradation difference between warm and cooled cooked rice to original estimates of warm cooked rice was significantly affected by the degree of retrogradation of cooled cooked rice. Generally, the better rice cultivars in eating quality of cooked rice showed less retrogradation and much sponginess in cooled cooked rice. Also, the rice varieties exhibiting less retrogradation in cooled cooked rice revealed higher hot viscosity and lower cool viscosity of rice flour in amylogram. The sponginess of cooled cooked rice was closely associated with magnesium content and volume expansion of cooked rice. The hardness-changed ratio of cooked rice by cooling was negatively correlated with solids amount extracted during boiling and volume expansion of cooked rice. The major physicochemical properties of rice grain closely related to the palatability of cooked rice may be directly or indirectly associated with the retrogradation characteristics of cooked nce. The varietal difference in retrogradation of cooked rice can be effectively classified by scatter diagram on the plane of upper two principal components based on some retrogradation properties of cooked rice. The deteriorated structural change in cooled cooked rice by observing through the scanning electron microscope was more conspicuous in the fastly retrograded cooked rice than in the slower one.
Since wall paintings in Maitreya Hall of Geumsan-sa temple had displayed a serious state of damage and deterioration, a detailed examination such as structural analysis of the wall, cause of damage, and the state of deterioration have been thoroughly conducted before the conservation treatment has commenced. The most seriously deteriorated part of the wall paintings was the south wall of the building in particular in its painted and surface layer. The painted layer had formed its own layer of thick, which has been separation from the surface layer. As such problem developed the whole surface layer has been separated from the wall. The problem has been caused by two reasons: 1. the heavy weight of the roof section and it caused cracks and damage on the wall; 2. the loss of function of consolidating material and it caused discolouring and the separation of surface layer from the wall. The cause of damage on the painted and surface layers can be assumed in two ways: 1. its surrounding environment such as the change of temperature and humidity level and ultraviolet rays ; 2. the loss of mechanical function of consolidating material, synthetic resin which had been applied in the past conservation treatment. The separation of layers from the wall and cracks was caused by the mistake in choosing an applicable consolidating material and dismantling technique which had ignored a different characteristic of the wall painting of Korean buddhist temples.
It is increasing annually that the cost for bridge Maintenance Repair & Rehabilitation (MR&R) in developed countries. Based on Intelligent Technology, Bridge Management System (BMS) is developed for optimization of Life Cycle Cost (LCC) and reliability to predict long-term bridge deteriorations. However, such data are very limited amongst all the known bridge agencies, making it difficult to reliably predict future structural performances. To alleviate this problem, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) based Backward Prediction Model (BPM) for generating missing historical condition ratings has been developed. Its reliability has been verified using existing condition ratings from the Maryland Department of Transportation, USA. The function of the BPM is to establish the correlations between the known condition ratings and such non-bridge factors as climate and traffic volumes, which can then be used to obtain the bridge condition ratings of the missing years. Since the non-bridge factors used in the BPM can influence the variation of the bridge condition ratings, well-selected non-bridge factors are critical for the BPM to function effectively based on the minimized discrepancy rate between the BPM prediction result and existing data (deck; 6.68%, superstructure; 6.61%, substructure; 7.52%). This research is on the generation of usable historical data using Artificial Intelligence techniques to reliably predict future bridge deterioration. The outcomes (Long-term Bridge deterioration Prediction) will help bridge authorities to effectively plan maintenance strategies for obtaining the maximum benefit with limited funds.
Most of the concrete bridge structures are exposed to damage due to the excessive traffic loading and the aging of the structure. The damage of concrete causes the further deterioration of the function in the concrete structure due to corrosion of the reinforced bars and decohesion between the concrete and the reinforced bar. The quick rehabilitation of the damaged concrete structures has become of great importance in the concrete structural system in order to avoid the further deterioration of the structures. Recently fiber sheets are used for strengthening the damaged concrete structures due to its many advantages such as its durability, non-corrosive nature, low weight, ease of application, cost saving, control of crack propagation, strength to thickness ratio, high tensile strength, serviceability and aesthetic. However, the lack of analytical procedures for assessing the nominal moment capacity by the fiber sheet reinforcement leads to difficulties in the effective process of decisions of the factors in the strengthening procedure. In this work, flexural strengthening effects by fiber sheets bonded on bottom face of the member are studied for the reinforced concrete T beam. In addition, auxiliary flexural strengthening effects by U-type fiber sheets bonded on bottom and side faces of the member to prevent delamination of the bottom fiber sheet are theoretically investigated. The analytical solutions are compared with experimental results of several references to verify the proposed approach. It is shown that the good agreements between the predicted results and experimental data are obtained.
This paper deals with the characteristics of deformation of the underground corrugated steel plate culverts constructed in the areas where the minimum depth of within 1.5 m soil cover is not secured in the bottom of highways. The underground corrugated steel plate culverts at shallow depth are often designed and constructed with the consideration of the minimum depth of soil cover according to the design standards, which was made in order to minimize any deformation. Additionally, if under unfavorable conditions, slabs are set up for stress relaxation to disperse and minimize the weight of loads transferred to the corrugated steel plate culverts. Nevertheless, if the underground corrugated steel plate culverts are built in areas where the minimum depth of soil cover inevitably cannot be secured, there may occur some deformation. In this paper, a research was carried out to identify the characteristics of deformation in areas where the minimum depth of soil cover is not secured. The result shows that there existed the deterioration of pavement and in its smoothness around the corners of slabs for stress relaxation. To this end, this paper studied the structural stability of the underground corrugated steel plate culverts established in the areas with no minimum depth of soil cover secured, with the consideration of causes and solutions of pavement deterioration.
This study was focused on the recognition of historical values and the establishment of conservation schemes for a Silla stone monument in Bongpyeong-ri, Uljin by combining the humanistic investigation of inscription reinterpretation and the scientific conservational diagnosis of deterioration. According to the investigation of inscription, a total of 13 letters were reconsidered compared to the preceding researches. Thus, the meaning and interpretation of previous inscription was partially changed. This monument is composed of gneissose leucogranite and the most suitable site as provenance of the stone would be the Jukbyeon seashore (2.1km). The site shows similar color, size and composition of minerals, gneissose structure and magnetic susceptibility as the Bongpyeong stone monument. This monument developed a structural crack (crack index 0.4) and a microcrack (crack index 2.0) along the gneissose structure. The horizontal strength is weaker than the vertical strength. Therefore, the cracks should be reinforced and treated. However, consolidating is not urgently needed because the total weathering grade by ultrasonic velocity shows the stage of moderate weathering(3,403m/s, 0.32). Also, the major problems of chemical deterioration are blackening (85.2%) with soil, iron oxide,rubbing mark, and salt crystals (17.3%) from the sea. Therefore, the contaminants and the salt crystals should be removed using pressure spray and pulp paper, while the application of poultice should be examined through clinical tests.
