In recent years, dramatic advances in information technology have motivated the construction industry to improve its productivity. Most construction companies are trying to utilize some new information technologies for enhancing the structure quality, shortening construction time, and reducing the construction cost. Digital Mock-Up (DMU) technology utilizes 3D CAD/CAM system that shows the shape of a structure on the computer screen. By modeling and assembling the structure in 3D dimensional environments, some errors in design can be found before or during construction. In this paper, DMU technology was applied to the detail design and construction of In-Cheon Bridge and its effectiveness was evaluated. All components of a PSC box girder segment were modeled and assembled by using of 3D CAD tools and then, some interferences between components and errors were found and revised appropriately before construction. Consequently, DMU technology would improve the quality of the structure and reduce time and cost for construction.

Hull design data is currently prepared by a 2D CAD system and re-input to 3D CAD systems specialized for detail design or to a structural analysis system. In this paper, sharing design data among different CAD systems has been studied. Based on STEP methodology, a neutral model is generated from 2D AutoCAD drawings. To handle a geometric data of this model, the non-manifold model of ACIS is used because it can support various CAD data representation such as 2D graphic entities, 3D wireframe, 3D surface model, and solid B-Rep/CSG model. It is observed that a mon-manifold model can easily be transformed to a 3-D wireframe model for the hull detail design system AutoDef or a FE model for the structural analysis system Nastran.

Hybrid precast concrete panel is a wall element that is able to quickly construct the core wall structure for moderate-rise modular buildings. Hybrid precast concrete panel has unique characteristics which is a pair of C-shaped steel beams combined at the top and bottom of a concrete wall, In this study, an improved anchorage detail for vertical rebar is proposed to ensure the lateral force resistance performance of hybrid precast concrete panel emulating monolithic concrete wall. Also, the structural performance of horizontal connection is investigated experimentally with the bolt spacing parameter. And the behavior of hybrid precast concrete panel with the improved detail is compared with the monolithic concrete wall tested in a previous study. Finally, the required thickness of C-shaped steel beam to eliminate or minimize the deformation in horizontal connection is calculated by prying action equation.

Energy-dissipative rocking (EDR) columns are a class of seismic mitigation device capable of dissipating seismic energy and preventing weak-story failure of moment resisting frames (MRFs). An EDR consists of two hinge-supported steel columns interconnected by steel dampers along its height. Under earthquakes, the input seismic energy can be dissipated by plastic energy of the steel dampers in the EDR column. However, the unrecoverable plastic deformation of steel dampers generally results in residual drifts in the structural system. This paper presents a proof-of-concept study on an innovative device, namely self-centring energy-dissipative rocking (SC-EDR) column, aiming at enabling self-centring capability of the EDR column by installing a set of shape memory alloy (SMA) tension braces. The working mechanism of the SC-EDR column is presented in detail, and the feasibility of the new device is carefully examined via experimental and numerical studies considering the parameters of the SMA bar diameter and the steel damper plate thickness. The seismic responses including load carrying capacities, stress distributions, base rocking behaviour, source of residual deformation, and energy dissipation are discussed in detail. A rational combination of the steel damper and the SMA tension braces can achieve excellent energy dissipation and self-centring performance.

In this paper, the structural properties of the existing reinforced concrete(RC) piers are surveyed and the major factors influencing the member strength and deformation capacity are identified. Also a seismic evaluation procedure of RC piers is presented. The factors controlling the member strength are the applied axial load, the reinforcement ratio and yield strength of longitudinal rebar for flexural strength, and the transverse reinforcement for shear strength. Member deformation capacity largely depends on transverse reinforcement ratio and anchor detail, and splice location of longitudinal reinforcement. The above structural detail should be investigated for the detail seismic evaluation of RC piers. The most of existing RC piers have inadequate transverse reinforcement anchor details and the splices of longitudinal reinforcement in the pier bottom where plastic hinges are formed after yielding. Therefore the deformation capacity is not enough for the ductile flexural behavior of the RC piers. The presented evaluation procedure can be used for the rational decisions as to seismic retrofitting of the existing RC piers.

In this study, the technology to prevent lateral deformation of steel dampers was reviewed and applied to the clamp type dampers. As for the experimental method, the rocking behavior was applied as in the previous study. The evaluation variables are the existing research results (SV-260) without lateral deformation prevention details and the test results (V-1, V-1R) with lateral deformation prevention details. Where, V-1 is the lateral deformation prevention detail at the lower part of the damper, and V-1R is the lateral deformation prevention detail at the lower part and upper part of the damper. As a result of evaluating the moment, drift ratio, and energy dissipation capacity relative to SV-260 at the time of maximum load, the maximum moments of V-1 and V-1R were increased by 1.22 times and 1.36 times compared to SV-260, and the maximum drift ratio increased by 2.41 times and 2.92 times. In addition, the energy dissipation capacity also increased by 1.39 times and 1.52 times, respectively. Therefore, the application of lateral deformation prevention details to the steel damper was evaluated as appropriate.
In the view of the importance of material reduction due to the jump in oil and steel prices, an optimized structural system for lifting lugs was developed. Such a system is needed hundreds of thousands of times a year. A direct design process was added to this developed optimized system to increase the design efficiency and provide a way of directly inserting a designer's decisions into the design system process. In order to verify the system efficiency and convenience, several new prototype lug shapes were suggested using the developed system. From these research results, it was found that the slope of the main plate of the lug structure has a tendency to move from about 45 degrees to about 60 degrees and the design weight was reduced from an initial value of about 32kgf to about $15{\sim}19kg_f$ after the redesign. Based on these initial research results, an efficient reduction in steel weight was expected considering the enormous consumption of lug structures per year. Additionally, a more detail structural analysis through local strength evaluations will be performed to verify the efficiency of the optimum structural design for a lug structure.
The main purpose of this paper is to establish the high temperature structural integrity evaluating procedures for the next generation reactors, which are to be operated at over 500$^{\circ}C$ and for 60 years. To do this, comparison studies of the high temperature structural design codes and assessment procedures such as the ASME-NH (USA), RCC-MR (France), DDS (Japan), and R5 (UK) are carried out in view of the accumulated inelastic strain and the creep-fatigue damage evaluations. Also the application procedures of the ASME-NH rules with the actual thermal and structural analysis results are described in detail. To overcome the complexity and the engineering costs arising from a real application of the ASME-NH rules by hand, all the procedures established in this study such as the time-dependent primary stress limits, total accumulated creep ratcheting strain limits, and the creep-fatigue damage limits are computerized and implemented into the SIE ASME-NH program. Using this program, the selected high temperature structures subjected to two cycle types are evaluated and the parametric studies for the effects of the time step size, primary load, number of cycles, normal temperature for the creep damage evaluations and the effects of the load history on the creep ratcheting strain calculations are investigated.

A new formal standardization methodology of the structural design document information is proposed in this paper. The standardization process is divided into three steps: pre-process of the collected sample document (CSD), construction of the document structure, and definition of the occurrence of each element in the document. During the pre-process, the detail document contents in the CSD are indexed with templates defined in this study, and the indexed CSD is translated into XML Schema (XSD) formal Afterwards the degree of confidences of all elements between the temporary standard document (TSD) and the translated CSD are calculated by using the XML schema matching algorithm; the TSD is then updated. This second step is repeated until all of the CSD are compared. In the final step, the common elements and unbounded elements are extracted by determining the occurrence of the temporary document elements, and the standardized document schema is exported in the XSD format. The case study dealing with the structural calculation documents show that the ,proposed methodology can be effectively used to build a XML -based information model of structural design documents.
Neglecting the real joint behaviour in frame analysis may result in unrealistic predictions of the response and reliability of steel frames. The reliability of the prediction of main joint properties according to the component method (Eurocode 3-Part 1.8) still remains open to further investigation. The first step toward the solution is to compare the theoretical expressions given in EN 1993-1-8 and the experimental results. With that goal in mind six nominally the same, but really different specimens of welded beam-to-column joints subjected to static load were tested. The specimens present a combination of nominally identical structural elements produced in different European mills. This paper provides these tests, as well as their detailed evaulation and interpretation. All three joint structural properties (rotational stiffness, moment resistance and rotation capacity) have been considered. Four models for determining the plastic resistance out of experimental Mj-${\phi}$ curves have been applied. The results that have been discussed in detail, point to the fact that EN 1993-1-8 underestimates the real structural properties of the tested type of joint, as well as to the conclusion that detailed research of this problem needs to be conducted using the probabilistic reliability methods.
