  • This study was planned to develop monitoring system of cable force to resolve cable force of cable-stayed bridge efficiently in a long-term plan. In the proposed monitoring system, firstly data are sampled from real-time acceleration record, secondly these sampled data are frequency analyzed by using the FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) algorism and lastly the analyzed results are averaged and generalized. For evaluating the applicability of this monitoring system, field loading test has performed in real cable-stayed bridge. In comparison with cable force by field manual calculation and cable force of monitoring system by semi-automatic calculation, the difference of calculated cable forces has within 1% error range and it is acceptable range. Additionally within negligible 5% error range of difference has occur between field manual calculation and monitoring system by automatic calculation. so monitoring system in this study has been verified to be reliable.

  • The aim of this study is to evaluate the design table for envelope curve analysis of base isolated buildings, which represent the period of base isolated buildings and the lateral displacement of base isolation devices. For the construction of design table, $V_E$ spectrum, which represents the energy, is developed instead of acceleration of seismic hazard. Based on the seismic coefficient of UBC 97, boundary period $T_G$ and maximum velocity response $V_0$ are proposed considering Korea seismic hazard. Using $T_G$ and $V_0$, finally, $V_E$ spectrum is developed for the four types of soil conditions. Base on the $V_E$ spectrum, design table for envelope curve analysis is also developed for soil types.

  • Recently, complex-shaped tall buildings represented by 3T(Twisted, Tapered, Tilted) are planed largely. A diagrid structural system is one of the most widely used structural system for complex-shaped tall buildings because of its structural efficiency and formativeness. Plans for tilted tall buildings are largely presented because of beauty of a sculpture and many of buildings use diagrid structural systems. Lateral displacements of tilted tall buildings are induced by not only lateral loads but also self weight. Therefore, reduction of lateral responses of tilted tall buildings is as important as typical tall buildings. In this study, a smart TMD is introduced to reduce seismic responses of tilted diagrid tall buildings and its control performance is evaluated. MR damper is employed for the smart TMD and ground-hook controller is used as a control algorithm for the smart TMD. 100-story tall building is used as an example structure. Control performances of uncontrolled case, controlled case with TMD and controlled case with smart TMD are compared and investigated. Numerical simulation has shown that smart TMD presented good control performance for displacement response but acceleration response was not controlled well.

  • Seismic performance evaluation of structure requires an estimation of the structural performance in terms of displacement demand imposed by earthquakes on the structure. Incremental Dynamic Analysis(IDA) is a analysis method that has recently emerged to estimate structural performance under earthquakes. This method can obtained the entire range of structural performance from the linear elastic stage to yielding and finally collapse by subjecting the structure to increasing levels of ground acceleration. Most structures are expected to deform beyond the limit of linearly elastic behavior when subjected to strong ground motion. The nonlinear response history analysis(NRHA) among various nonlinear analysis methods is the most accurate to compute seismic performance of structures, but it is time-consuming and necessitate more efforts. The nonlinear approximate methods, which is more practical and reliable tools for predicting seismic behavior of structures, are extensively studied. The uncoupled modal response history analysis(UMRHA) is a method which can find the nonlinear reponse of the structures for ESDF from the pushover curve using NRHA or response spectrum. The direct spectrum analysis(DSA) is approximate nonlinear method to evaluate nonlinear response of structures, without iterative computations, given by the structural linear vibration period and yield strength from the pushover analysis. In this study, the practicality and the reliability of seismic performance of approximate nonlinear methods for incremental dynamic analysis of mixed building structures are to be compared.

  • Currently, the development of evaluation technology for vibration and shock load characteristics and spent nuclear fuel structural integrity under normal conditions of transport is being conducted in the Republic of Korea. This is the first such research conducted in the Republic of Korea and, thus, previous international studies need to be investigated and will be referred to in the ongoing project. Before 2000, several studies related to measurement of vibration and shock loads on spent nuclear fuel were conducted in the US. US national research institutes conducted uniaxial fuel assembly shaker tests, concrete block tests, and multi-axis fuel assembly tests between 2009 and 2016. In 2017, multi-modal transportation tests including road, sea, and rail transport were also performed by research institutes from the US, Spain and the Republic of Korea. Therefore, test preparation procedures, acceleration and strain measurement results, and finite-element and multi-body dynamics analysis were investigated. Based on the measured strain data, the preliminary conclusion was obtained that the measured strain was too small to cause damage to spent nuclear fuel rods. However, this conclusion is a preliminary conclusion that only reviews part of the results; a detailed review is being conducted in the US. The investigation of international studies on spent nuclear fuel structural integrity tests considering vibration and shock loads under normal conditions of transport in the US will be useful data for the project being conducted in the Republic of Korea.

  • In this study, a nonlinear dynamic analysis of a frame and single member, which reflect the characteristics of a plant facility, is performed using the commercial MIDAS GEN program and the results are analyzed. The general structural members and material properties of the plant are considered. The Newmark average-acceleration numerical-analysis method is applied to a plastic hinge to study material nonlinearity. The blast load of a vapor-cloud explosion, a representative plant explosion, is calculated, and nonlinear dynamic analysis is conducted on a frame and single member. The observed dynamic behavior is organized according to the ratio of natural period to load duration, maximum displacement, ductility, and rotation angle. The conditions and range under which the frame functions as a single member are analyzed and derived. NSFF with a beam-column stiffness ratio of 0.5 and ductility of 2.0 or more can be simplified and analyzed as FFC, whereas NSPF with a beam-column stiffness ratio of 0.5 and ductility of 1.5 or more can be simplified and analyzed as FPC. The results of this study can serve as guidelines for the blast-resistant design of plant facilities.

  • The Republic of Korea experiences four distinct seasons, with significant temperature differences between summer and winter, causing bridges to undergo large temperature variations throughout the year. When the temperature changes, the dynamic characteristics of bridge structures also change. However, during load-bearing capacity assessments in domestic bridge maintenance, this temperature effect is not considered, and only the natural frequency measured over a short period is used for evaluation. In this paper, we theoretically analyze the impact of changes in natural frequency on bridges and extract daily estimated natural frequency data from bridges with continuous vertical acceleration measurements taken over more than a year to confirm temperature-induced changes. The results show that a 1% decrease in natural frequency corresponds to an approximately 2% decrease in the load-bearing capacity of the bridge. Additionally, it was found from the measurement data that a 10℃ increase in temperature did not affect the natural frequency of RC slab bridges and Rahmen bridges, but in PSC-I girder bridges and steel box girder bridges, the natural frequency decreased by approximately 1.04% to 2.48%.

  • Wind-induced motions, like acceleration for instance, often influence designs for high-rise buildings. As a consequence, correct assessment of natural frequency becomes important. The empirical expressions used to quantify this parameter at the design phase tend to yield values that are significantly different from each other. This paper is concerned with the natural periods of steel buildings. It describes the vibration measurement methods that were employed for testing buildings. This paper will also present reliable methods of assessing the natural period from ambient vibration tests. Data from measurements on 21 buildings in Seoul were provided while 21 buildings were tested by ambient vibration measurements to obtain the natural periods. While regression formulas of natural periods for steel-frarried tall buildings were suggested, the obtained formula was compared with the empirical expressions of structural standards and the Eigen-value analysis.

  • An experimental study has been conducted to investigate the effects of circular damage hole on the characteristics of airfoil performance. The damage on a wing created from a hit by anti-air artillery was modeled as a circular hole. Force balance measurements and static pressure measurements on the wing surface were carried out for the cases of having damage holes of 10% chord size at quarter chord and/or half chord positions. All experiments were conducted at Reynolds number of $2.85\times10^5$ based on the chord length. The surface pressure data show big pressure alterations near the circular damage holes. This abnormal surface pressure distribution produces shear stress that could lead to the acceleration of the structural degradation of the wing around the circular damage hole. However, in spite of the existence of circular damage holes, the measured force data indicated the only a slight decrease in lift accompanied by increase in drag compared to the results of undamaged one. The influence of damage hole on the aerodynamic performance was increased as the location of damage moved to the leading edge. The effect on the control force was insignificant when the damaged size was not large.

  • The direct design modification of problematic component is disallowed in order to sacrifice other major factors such as a stability or a major performance. So, the best design policy is to risvise the immature structural medchanism under the minimal design change as soon as possible. For this paper presents a new design sensitivity analysis based on transmissibility rtio (TR) of response acceleration to find a proper candidate for the minimal design modification. The new sensitivity analysis is based on the fact that the sensitivity of TR over a small design change is inversly proportinal to the magnitude of TR. The theory of proposed design sensitivity analysis is simulated with the variance of TR over a dynamic change. Then, new methodology is appplied for a linear elastic specimen to detect the most sensitive node over a design change using measured accleration data during uni-axial vibration test, The physical verification of the sensitivity method is conducted on the CAE model of a linear elastic specimen by adding concentration mass and the vibration fatigue of the simple specimen is analyzed to estimate the relationship between fatigue behaviors and sensitivity consequences.
